  1. Have you heard of couchsurfing? We used to regularly host 'surfers' for years and was an ambassador but due to work demands we decided to stop hosting - plus the scene has changed to most of them looking for a free accommodation (and use it for hookups!) instead of knowing their hosts.. But anyway, there are greats hosts out there still, do give it s go as it's a nice way of knowing people and other travellers
  2. Egrek, sorry to hear about that. What field are you in - you mentioned banks, assuming you're in IT? If yes, what are you skillset (sorry if too nosy!). I can refer you to some recruiters. An ex-colleague of mine was on a WHV then defacto 457 while working with us (bank), so it was a surprise that they wouldn't want to hire you on a 3-month contract.
  3. Okay, still no sign of my Medicare card so I decided to call them this morning. Looks like the guy on the phone has no idea what's going on as well, in their system, it says my expiry supposed to be 2018 for card #4. So he ordered card #5 for me. The expiry date on my physical card #4 apparently is the date i applied for medicare... Weird!
  4. That is possible, the one they sent me recently has a shorter expiry date. Checked online and it says my medicare is valid until 2018 (they dont align, lol). I will give them a week or two before calling them again :frown:
  5. I arrived in May 2011 (hehe) and was granted PR early this year. I thought their system is linked so was waiting for my permanent card to arrive... but few months ago they sent me yet another interim card. Called medicare and they said it's better for me to head to the nearest office with the grant letter - so I did.
  6. Hopefully, I was at medicare 2 weeks ago to submit the paperwork. *fingers crossed
  7. I'm freaking out here (haha i do that all the time), logged into medicare online and the expiry says Oct 2018 but for the same card number + issue number. Does your perm card has the same issue number (i'm up to #4 now..)?
  8. So, I got my PR (subclass 100) in March and recently went to Medicare to update my residency status. Showed them my PR grant letter and i told them I should be getting a permanent card instead of an interim blue one (apparently their system is not linked to DIAC). She said she will update my details and i submitted the enrollment form again and said my new card will arrive in the mail. Today, i got my new medicare card and it's still says interim?! Am I supposed to get a permanent card or interim? The expiry date is in May next year now (it was previously Nov). What?
  9. I filed my defacto visa back in 2010 (now a PR), I recall we used the stat decs and at least 2 australian citizens/PR to do them for us. My dad just did a normal statement (not witnessed), just signed towards the end. In total we submitted about 6 stat decs and 1 statement (dad).
  10. This is my rat Bacon, she is a year old! [video=youtube;JRnC4-YVRdc]
  11. I do agree with the aircond, all protons are like that!
  12. Yes, I used my partner's mum's address when I registered for my TFN. I think when I filed my tax in July I gave them my new address.
  13. I've been on contract for almost 2 years now, same 'employer' but different agents. Most of the jobs advertised on seek are contractual as well. I've been offered a perm role, hopefully I'll get it. Do you prefer contracting?
  14. We usually park at Crown casino when we're in the city (it's no more than $10 per day, max). There are a few parking lots in Crown...
  15. We have created a Tango Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tango-Illegal-Melbourne/618107371539128
  16. It is liveable, eating out + movies might cost you a lot of money and we don't do that often. We survived on that for a year, it was alright to us (except no furniture in our house LOL).
  17. Hello, not sure if many of you are fans of tango (or dancing in general!), but there is a free tango class outside Melbourne Museum twice a week if anyone's interested? We'll be setting up a Facebook page soon - just need to take photos for the page :biglaugh: Most of us would be couchsurfers/travelers though
  18. When I met my partner 4 years ago, he was renting an apartment and I moved in with him (shamelessly haha). My name wasn't on the lease for the first 6 months of our relationship and we didn't have any utilities under our name as it is always under the landlord's name - that's how it works there unfortunately. When we submitted our application, our CO demanded more evidence of our cohabitation, one bill or letter addressed to me/him/us every quarter is sufficient enough for our CO. As a backup, I printed our online invoices of our website which was registered under our first apartment, air tickets (also have address info in the billing, etc)... Basically every single item that has our address on it. Our last landlord even asked his lawyer to write a formal letter declaring that we lived there for a year and was a good tenant, etc.
  19. After 2 yrs and on my 4th contract, through 2 diff agencies and the direct employer itself (all for the same job)... None of them asked for my uni cert (graduated in 2008). All they want is a copy of my passport & visa label (if there's one)!
  20. Is it for an apartment or just a room? I'm not sure how it goes in Sydney, but in Melbourne you need to submit an application form with your IDs and other items the agent might require. If it is for a room (are you alone?), try airbnb. We have a few tenants - they are couchsurfers, staying in airbnb before renting our room cos we have cheaper rates
  21. Yeah I was freaking out back then! By the way, it says that I "must not arrive after 12/02/2018"... Do I have to do anything about it? What is the next step after I've been granted subclass 100?
  22. OH MY GOD I AM A PR NOW!!!!!!! Logged in to VEVO and saw BC100 SO HAPPY! Sorry for all the caps, but i am so happy now
