  1. Its that dreaded 3 month brick wall syndrome, hits many including myself. All I can say from experience is keep at it looking for that work it will come, I got out of my trade, tried a job I was offered and love it, maintenance and it gives me time to study too. 3months with such a big upheaval plus getting settled and having those usual doubts all add up to stressful times. keep going and dont miss out on the experience of an aussie christmas, enjoy it as much as you can then forge ahead in 2014 things will ease
  2. understand exactly how you feel, my dilemma was no mortgage easy life in Uk or forever owe in Perth and be with sons and grandkids. 1 son returning to uk so with me I'll plod along happy in either but a bit of me missing whatever country I am not in. Having said that I know guys in Perth desperate to go home to UK yet trapped in Perth by family. Its something those in the UK who have not arrived in Oz cannot understand no matter how much research they have done, we all have to try it to see for ourselves. 13 years is deffo long enough to see if its for you. Hope all works out how you want it to. keep us updated on UK visit
  3. Good honest post from the heart but you are doing something about it positively. trying the UK and see what you feel like after a while. those here who love / dislike Oz will have opinions and those who have never yet left the UK will no doubt have theirs, all mean well but we are all individuals and have our own perspectives on life.Good Luck with it all, hope all works out best for everyone involved
  4. I thought the same, simmob having a bad day here in Oz so fired up about the UK, good to have differing opinions but being a mind reader of people 10,000 miles away is a magnificent skill
  5. no probs at all and a valued comment. I wonder what the future holds for myself as a retiree in Perth, or UK, both concern me. neither country is doom and and gloom, but the state of pensioners in Perth is similar to that of those in the UK for different reasons.
  6. Disagree, Roger, the UK is on its way out of a mess, my pals all report good work, things picking up nicely. lots of work for the tradies at the moment. All my pals and family upbeat, looking forward to what appears to be a traditional UK christmas. cold! To the OP Good idea to visit tho ,remember people move on do their own thing and after a while of seeing you life goes on for you too, its what you make of it. bug bear of mine when peeps say never come back to the Uk its a sh*tole etc when they never left the place, and worse, some of my Aus pals say Aus best country in the world when they have never even left WA
  7. just remember what people in the uk and others thought, boom will never end, get the house at any cost. the see what happened. luckily hindsight is in perth
  8. my house is on the south coast and value has soared since 2010 will wait til spring which is prob best time to sell and see if it draws any buyers
  9. Did you sign power of attorney to anyone like the solicitor etc. I am thinking of selling now. My neighbour there states that the houses in my road are selling in next to no time when they come up for sale. Had it valued and it has increased a lot. had several valuations. (though I know its only worth what someone will pay for it)
  10. search all the press, uk Aus, usa anywhere you like all the pollies are the same, always have been always will be, why carry on now. nothing will be done. we vote em in. slow news day uk?.
  11. stop reading the telegraph, simples. you'll be a lot happier, prob live longer
  12. The parents need closure on this either way. I hope she is alive but I fear the worst too.
  13. My DiL wants to go to the UK, she has never seen snow. I said easier to go to switzerland
  14. Good ole British Press, negative news must be hard to find today
  15. very true,I think when in the UK you look for all the positives in Oz, overlook the negatives or even argue the point with those already in Oz and believe all the negatives in the UK too as reassurance you are doing the right thing. Then reality hits. I know I did... But got on with it and can take or leave either country. both been good to me
  16. agree on that, gas fitter on list but you need plumb licence as not a lot of work for sole gas fitter. remember, immigration isa huge cash cow for Australia and the portrayal of the 'lucky country'
  17. Probably not a rip-off Its just how it is here. expensive, and hard work, at least you have given it a good go.
  18. Spring in both countries is Awesome!
  19. My younger son never wanted to come here and soon as he leaves school he is off to the UK and has stood by this for 3 years, my other son been here 10 years and told me if there was a button he could press that would take him back to before we came here and he would not remember anyone ( he is married 2 kids ). He would gladly press it and be 'Home' Its times like that when I think I wish I had never heard of Oz and had the idea of coming here. However, history cannot be changed and I would happily live 2 years in UK, 2 years in Oz finances permitting, neither country makes me feel I want to leave forever
  20. If you were told not to go to Oz would you have given the adventure a miss?. Peeps back home mean well but uk people do tend to dwell on negatives, and believe everything in the press there. hence the popularity of mournful progs such as eastenders, ( xmas is near cue disasters on these soaps, and rush for funerals ) and 5 negative stories for every 1 positive lol. here in Oz the spin is more on positive tho a little too much, best country in the world without travelling outside WA, never been here etc. All mean well just have to take the average and what suits yourselves. You will grumble about Oz and you will grumble about the UK, nowhere is perfect ( some tho you would think say otherwise  )
  21. Nobody says decisions have to be permanent,
  22. I realised that utopia doesnt exist, I had it good in the UK realised some of that when moved to oz. Oz can offer me different things. Different not better. still get up early, go to work, pay bills get p*ssed off with the country, look forward to weekends, get cold in winter get wet when it rains, get hot in the summer drive along the seafront, watch sunsets eat ice cream. and go out for entertainment. meet friends for dinner watch soccer Just Like I Did in the UK. both countries offer me a variety of choices, but you have to go get them, they wont come to you to experience.

No poster in particular, just the threads got childish. being mugged abused verbally in any country is just bad luck, wrong place wrong time.
