  1. Jobs in both countries but dont fall for the 'theres loads of work in Oz' rubbish, you dont walk off the plane and be handed a choice of jobs to choose from. esp the plumbers jobs, seems theres a plumber on every corner here in Perth, dont be picky when you get here, my pretty city and guilds cert meant nothing here. apply for any jobs you feel you could do be ready for no replies, turn down, if you are lucky or a reply months later. make sure its what you are running to that you have checked out, not what you are running from
  2. But she is not exactly ecstatic about a UK return though.
  3. You have done the hard part and moved here alone and got that all important job with good money, going home is not the option just yet, more to do with getting that social life up and running, You made a great effort doing what you have done already, (i dont think I could have moved here alone ) so hats off to you. could always turn those strengths to pushing on and making the social scene work. I joined classic car clubs as thats my hobby, turned up at shows got talking to people, takes a little time but consider what you have done in a year.
  4. As I said before people need to pace themselves, my sons pal spent 4 years in the mines, blew all his money lost his job struggled to find work and now labouring got married last year now unable to buy own place due to expense and no deposit. Family from Hull moved here November, brought 66k pounds all gone as they didnt realise cost of living here and based on accounts of loads of work, now struggling. not saying just wa oz but same in every country, with a boom comes an inevitable bust. Be prepared dib dib
  5. hopefully weather on the turn and the old car can come out for a cruise soon.
  6. I live 3 mins from hillarys, the burbs I described as poor are from personal experience whilst working, policemen friends and others including Aussie friends, but its your personal perspective so good for you and respect your views. I have lived all my life a couple of mins from the sea love hillarys but not every week too expensive now, but beach is great and Perth is changing, not always for the better and 10 years ago the freeway rush hour was about ten minutes, now the freeway is gridlocked from 6.30am weekdays. dark clouds today but when they break the sun and blue skies warm up nicely
  7. yep agree, I think what gets me is now I appreciate what the uk had to offer having given it up, its those who advise others not to go back to the UK as its a sh*****e etc when thy have nothing to compare it with that tend to be a bugbear. I try to be even handed, at the moment despite what people say Perth IS bloody expensive which is a pain, and I am aware of the problems are in the UK, a limp govt, and union backed opposition ( dont get me started on unions here ffs) here too I got on, got a job house car etc and made it work same as I had to in the UK, I encountered racism so know what being an immigrant is. Those who knock the uk immigrants will become one themselves here, they can then see and hear the ads for jobs for Australians only. Keep em coming tho Hoff, debate is good and I like to do so too, nothing is personal for sure just different temps of heated :-)
  8. Not Really agree, What I will say is that considering whats going on in the world having the choice of living in the UK or Australia isnt a bad choice at all. and yes I have stated all along I love both countries, I have lived the ups and downs in both, Would be very difficult to choose either way where to live if forced to. Could have been mortgage free at 40 in the UK yet have aussie grandaughters in Perth
  9. And you do Hoffey mate?, so much input when you havnt even lived here but dream of it?. dont knock the good and bad here, as you say paul bags WA all the time your posts are exactly he same about the UK, even the subtle digs. but lets try n get back to the OP for a change eh
  10. Still rough Brighton know of some bought new there when nice but lot of trouble there now, coppers I know tel me, Balga improving Kwinana sor bit of a nightmare too. each to their own I guess, got to accept the views of people who actually live here and tried it not just been here on hols. I live woodvale, had my car broken into twice, son had his work van broken into this weekend, sat nav gone, still considered nice area
  11. Clarkeson Mirrabooka, Brighton to name 3 nor, Cannington, sor Perth is a snoozy place, a bit like the isle of wight. some of my pals have moved east and doing well. a couple moving back to townsville after trying it here Tp me moving to the Eastern states wolf be like moving from uk to oz again, tho i have been invited to surfers paradise to check it out Have to admit tho driving along West Coast Highway is always refreshing here in Perth. and the classic car scene here is great too, esp with prices beginning to drop still have to agree with op about Perth, not really a happening place a friday night pub crawl may mean you be lucky to get into two bars
  12. Following Data can lead to falsehoods and lies, I go by experience and evidence of my own eyes. The UK is definately on the up not one ofmy large family all over the UK are out of a job, lost their business oron the dole, I though look at life through a glass half full perception and can understand anyone losing their jobs etc blaming the country. People out abusing thatcher after she died after 20 years away from politics for example, whats that all about, those people should have moved on by now, unfortunately as technology moves forward so do we. Watched 'ON THE BUSES' today was funny but then again any bus conductors would have been miffed at driver only buses, what would we think about them being re-employed back on the buses, complaints no doubt. The world wont adjust to fit us. we have to adjust. the UK will hit boom times again but no doubt some will refuse to acknowledge it. selective viewing sometimes. not aimed at you tho Hoffy
  13. Boom and bust in every western country just have to live within your means, easier said than done as when the uk was in a boom money was being thrown at peeps on every turn and post, I know many who took up offers such as "sign here for a guaranteed 25k loan". many of those suffered as of course it needed to be paid back and they couldnt relate to the boom being over. I see the same here in Perth too, lotsa debt, I can see negative equity. An estate agent was telling me that people here in Perth putting up the rents to real high rents and lo and behold the property on the market still. I have kept my UK house at the same rent now for 3 years, no issues with tenants and nice and steady. But as I say its tough in a boom time looking ahead to an inevitable bust sometime in the future. House prices here in Perth ridiculous prices and petrol at an all time high ( I know cheaper than UK but you travel twice as far here in perth ). Iam told my house value in the UK has risen so contemplating selling and changing into dollars but not buying here until house prices reduce. ( perth estate agents please dont contact me I will contact you :-) ) Incidentally I know f 3 UK couples moved here to Perth, and have blown all their monies from house sales etc within a year. just got to pace yourself. I'm either lucky or a tightwad
  14. Not just London, down on the coast too, lots of ads for gas engineers and good paye money too, All my pals in work, means house prices may go up and with a weak dollar I hopefully in a win win situation.
  15. Who pulled your chain? chill out it was an honest statement from someone who wants to be in Oz and is in the Uk . jeese what IS your problem. sun got to you? some people DuH!
  16. So come on Hoff, still waiting for you to answer the question on if and when you are coming, Would be an excellent read if you did a diary of your time here
