  1. WA does not have free ambulance coverage either, you have to buy coverage or it will end up costing you hundreds for an ambulance.
  2. Just wanted to say my thoughts are with you and your family. My daughters friend is a cousin of Prabh. I will share her post on FB as well. Sending good luck and warm wishes from Canada. Cheers Karen
  3. Great post Cara6, sometimes we take for granted what is right on our own doorstep. The grass is always greener mentality sometimes takes over. It isn't until you actually move somewhere else, or contemplate moving somewhere else, that you see your own area with almost new eyes. It def sounds like you have made the right decision. Keep on enjoying exploring all that the UK and Europe have to offer. Cheers Karen
  4. Candy Girl, so sorry that the house sale fell through. I know how you feel. Our house sale fell through 2 days before completion. I was devastated. Our flights were already booked, as in Canada, when you firm up, it is a legal binding contract, like in Australia, and it is a very rare occurrence that a house does not complete it's sale. We had both left our jobs as well, so we had no jobs, a house to sell again, and we were leaving for Oz in 2 weeks. We put the house back on the market, and got a buyer, the night we flew out to Oz. Life is funny, just when you think it is all slotting together nicely, something comes along. You will get to Oz my love, put the house back on the market. Fingers crossed you find a buyer quickly. Cheers Karen
  5. FWIW, when I lived in Perth, I didn't come across many Brits, I did live NOR, but inland. All of my neighbors were Aussies. My one neighbor did move from Mindarie to The Vines, and the reason she gave for moving, was all the Brits in Mindarie (she was an Aussie). I also met the most down to earth Aussies living inland. Salt of the earth people. I enjoyed Perth, small city, easy to get around and fantastic beaches. I enjoyed living where I did, more country than city, and I am not a beach person, but I guess for a lot of Brits, living close to the Ocean, would be their dream, and with the cost of housing in Perth, you do have to go to the far northern beach suburbs to get more affordable housing. Cheers Karen ETA, I still like Perth and will always have great memories of my time there.
  6. Four corners, just wanted to offer my condolences on the passing of your OHs father. Events like this do make you realize where your priorities lie. Cheers Karen
  7. The other thing I have noticed is it is lovely and light in the evenings now, you can get so much more accomplished with daylight savings. Cheers Karen
  8. Here in Canada, we have finally no more snow, we too had snow in May, which was unusual for Southern Ontario. This weekend was our long weekend, and it has been gorgeous, sunny and very warm, around 26 degrees but humid as well, so feels hotter. Been a great weekend for painting, we have painted our living room and hallways. Cheers Karen
  9. Here you go PB, link to AFL in North America. http://www.afana.com/drupal5/ Cheers Karen
  10. Well, we had snow on Mothers day, last Sunday, in Canada, haven't seen it snow in May, in the 32 years I have been here. Some strange weather patterns this year, across the globe. Cheers Karen
  11. Okay boys and girls, just had to do a quick tidy up. To be fair to the OP, can we please remember to keep on topic and not take cheap shots at each other. Also a reminder this is in UK news, NOT Chewing the Fat. Cheers Karen
  12. Okay boys and girls, can we please try to keep this thread on track for the sake of the OP. I have deleted some posts, so please play nicely. Cheers Karen
  13. Have you looked on Gumtree. Also will you using it a lot after the camping trip. What about hiring one for the camping trip, see if it suits your needs. Cheers Karen
  14. What a great post. So glad you are enjoying life.
  15. Just wanted to share what $500 a week will get you just north of Toronto, in Canada, just to show how ridicules the prices are in Australia. http://www.rentershotline.ca/rentalBoxView.php Cheers Karen
  16. The top picture is of my cat Mini Meow and my daughters cat Pumpkin. The second picture is of our Minature American Eskimo named Marshmellow. The third picture is of pumpkin dressed up like a football play (American Football) They are all good animals, I am a cat lover at heart, and the girls cats are almost like dogs (they are ragdolls). Cheers Karen
  17. I would imagine that Australia would seem huge to most people from the UK. Just the distances to travel that seem normal to Australians, would seem like a long distance to most Brits. As a Canadian, we are used to long distance traveling as well, so to me Australia was not that much different, although I can boast, that Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world LOL. Cheers Karen

  21. Have a fab time, you might not want to get on the plane to come back ha ha!
  22. So Wendee, you only get the perfect temps less than 10% of the time, jeez and here I was thinking that it was paradise every day LOL.
  23. As a returnee, I think it is good to post if you are returning. Sometimes, you don't have anyone you can talk to, and it can be reassuring to know that there are other like minded people around you. We give lots of support to those making the journey to Oz, and we should give our support to those making the move back. I don't think the posts put people off. Most people can make up their own mind, plus it is good to see both sides, as at the end of the day Australia is not some Utopia, it does have issues too, just like any other first world country. Cheers Karen
  24. Hi, we moved from Canada to Oz, so took a little bit of getting used to. I wasn't too bad, as I had driven in the UK on my several trips home, my OH took a little longer, as he had only driven in Canada. Didn't take took long to get used to driving on the opposite side, but would recommend getting an automatic car, as you have enough to concentae on without having to shift gears with your left hand. Also not sure how many roundabouts are in th US, but lots in Australia. Cheers Karen
