It's a category A based on those figures. I can ship motorbikes too, no probs there, but I'm not sure how they would work in the calculator, I can give it a crack though if you have some figures for me.

Sorry, I should have mentioned this before, but if your car has an engine that is smaller than any of the ones offered in Australia, take around $5000 off the market value in Australia. We're gradually moving to smaller cars, but in general we still prefer to have plenty of grunt under our right foot if we need to overtake a road train

Without plugging it into the calculator, I'd say sell it off - it would be an orphan in Australia, and when the time came to sell it, it would be harder to shift than a baked-on oven stain. Your only hope would be if a truly fanatical Fiat tragic were to fall in love with it, but let's face it, it ain't no Picasso

Hey iron lady,

 

My husband and I intend to move to oz in roughly 12 months. We currently need to buy a new used car. Something baby friendly not too big (I am tiny) and around £8000. We hadn't considered taking a car over with us but after reading this thread, I think we should be giving strong consideration into the car that we purchase in relation to how it may sell in oz in the future.

 

We were thinking of buying a Nissan Qashqai (Dualis) but now we are open to any suggestions. In your experience, do any make/model spring to mind that we should consider? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

 

My only prerequisites would be aircon, 5 door and not too big that I cant reach the peddles as I am under 5 foot!!

The Evo 6 was not officially imported into the country (something to consider) but only a limited number of Tommi Makkinen Editions. On another forum I visit, some guy was selling his imported Evo 6 for around $16k. If its not about the money, bring it as it's quite a rare car (not many of the Evo models made it here), just bear in mind issues with rare cars eg. parts, servicing, insurance etc.

My EVO is not an import! It is a UK car It was one of the first to come to the UK. It was owned by Mitiubishi. Ralliart Evos are also UK cars. There are some imported evos out there. You are right it does cost alot to keep on the road!

Also, a 2008 Honda CBR1000RR, 4,000 miles. UK price is £6,000 but unsure of AU pricing.

 

I have been toying with the idea of bringing my Lambretta over but i might sell it here as unsure of the market in Australia.

we have a 1975 escort rs 2000 owned from six months old it is a collecter mint condition how and where does that fit in,cost £1800 when new

i dont think anyone can put a true value on it would it have to be altered in any way .

would this class as a personal import as i also have a porsche turbo i would like to bring, can my wife and two sons(both have uk driveing licence and over 18) bring a personal import aswell

Hi Ethan, if the Volvo is still worth that much in the UK then sell it there. Diesel would help its appeal when the time comes to sell it here, but realistically it's a category C.

 

As for the Corsa, that model was never sold here, so again, if you can get GBP6500 for it in the UK, I'd advise selling it there.

Ok forget the Dualis. My suggestions - any mid range European luxury car - Audi A6 (RS6 ideally), E class Mercedes Benz, BMW 5 series, or if you go for A4/3-series/C-Class choose the largest engine you can find.

Bring it, it's a category B. First things first, get under the back of the car and check the rust isn't too bad on the chassis rails!

For the Focus, normally I'd say category C, but being a diesel helps bump it up to a B. How old is the Lambretta? Check here for bike values: http://redbook.com.au/bikes/

Being pre-1989 built, you can bring that over separate to all your other cars without having to go through the personal import process. It would be a crime not to bring it. RS2000s fetch pretty decent money here these days too.
