Didnt knwo you were also heading to Melbourne :)

YEah we could actually meet!!! :)

It would be AMAZING to know someone over there or at least share experiences as we prepare to leave xX

Hi Ack

Getting a job is a worry, I too am a secondary school teacher (science). Hopefully hubby will get a job (PMA) and I am prepared to do a bit of supply or find a PT contract somewhere - i've heard that permanent teaching jobs are quite hard to come by. Prob won't work at first tho till kids settle in.

Would be great to meet up in Melbourne! Which suburbs are you looking at?

We just need a bloomin visa now!

oh god thats gas us both teachers and moving to Melbourne.

Havent really a clue where to go but I like the idea of Frankston?? Mornington too but apparently its a bit far so I havent a clue.

Ive not yet had my quals assessed - DREADing it incase they say Im not qualified for maths....thats only subject Im concerned about

I wonder do they base it on credits? Would you know??

My Ba is in finance - in Irelan Im qualified for Accounting, business and economics (which I have MSc in too) then I did my teacher training and then because jobs were hard also to get in Ireland I did another MSc in Mathematics to make up the credits I needed to obtain eligibility for mathematics....so to say Im worried about my abiltity to teach maths is an understatment.

Yeah I too have heard its tough but to be honest its tough in Irreland am I managed though this yr is my first yr with full time hours and here I am on maternity leave ha!

Dont plan to work straight away when we get over there.

Emma you'll get a visa - :) the meds are just slowing you up.

Are you the primary applicant?

No its my hubby, he's a software engineer. I took a couple of years off when the kids were born and have been working PT for the past 18 months so I had less points for work experience. I also need to get my skills assessed - where do we apply and how long does it take? Haven't really looked into it, was waiting until we had our visa.

I cannot imagine they would say you are not qualified in maths if you have a masters and experience teaching maths. I have a similar situation as in the UK if you are a science teacher it is given that you will teach all 3 sciences up to GCSE. I don't have any tertiary qualifications in physics but have been teaching all 3 sciences for 6 years.

It sounds really tough in Ireland, I have a friend that lives in Skerries and all her dept have had to take a 10% pay cut (she works in the health service). I am on a temporary contract here and am not sure if it will be renewed as my school has had to make redundancies this year and they may reduce KS5 courses and free periods to cut costs. Am sure that Australia is feeling the pinch but it cannot be as bad as the Eurozone and in the UK.

I take it your OH is the primary applicant?

We are looking at living in Berwick and Mornington (maybe too far out tho).

Not sure how long it takes either..we've to apply to Victorian TEaching Institute....seems straight forward though things never really are. Like you I was waiting til hubbie was successful with visa application. But Im going toget the ball rolling on it.

Apparently different states have different criteria for teaching too...just to confuse it all.

But before I even apply for skills part Ive to get my parchments translated from latin to english - more expense but sure has to be done.

Yeah the physics and maths could be issues for us.....but if it is we'd only have to go and sit some extra modules Im sure.

Going from husbands visa journey- getting skills /quals assessed was the worst part.

Yeah Mornington would be nice but yeah..far out is right! Must look at Berwick. Its so hard isnt it! Esp when you add into the mix the need for good local schools!

Well hubby went for specialist apt this morning and came out of apt feeling really positive. Overall the consultant said his diabetes was very well controlled and that he would be writing this in his report. The report should be in the post tomorrow and with the panel doctor by Wed (why don't doctors use email???). The panel doc will then include it with hubby's medical so maybe a visa in March??? We hope so!!!

Well, our mess are booked and I'm working on the police check forms. I can't believe how quickly all of this is happening, but I'm not complaining!

Guest Sianburton

Hey everyone

Were also off to Adelaide. Feeling a bit nervous about it today but i think its just becuase everything is now in and the waiting for grant has begun. I cant wait to have this process behind us its been such a drain emotionally and I feel like until that visa is given it could still all fall through.

Oooh... meds on Saturday. Can't be too long then :) We've booked a quick trip to Perth to activate our visas from 6 April to 15 April :) Can't wait!!!

Thats fab Dono. Very jealous.

We havent done ANYTHING since we got our visa granted.

Just cant think where to start!

Think will book husband to go in late June and I'll join him in late Aug /sept.

We need to organise renting out the apt and what to take????

My mind is racing between- lease it out with the apt, sell it or bring it with us???!!! arrrrghh

Plus did ye get info on registering with some state agency to help look for work- it takes 21 days or something from your visa grant before you can register
