  1. Hi Julie, We are in Mount Martha and absolutely love it. My parents have been out twice for a holiday and like it too. My opinion is that you need at least a year to feel settled and should embrace the way of life/differences to the UK. Mornington and Mount Martha are full of Brits and Irish and we have never felt isolated. It is a huge adventure and being with your daughter will be great We had never been to Australia, just got the visa and sold the house, quit our jobs and got on the plane with 3 year old twins (we must have been mad lol!). Good luck with everything! Emma
  2. Yep its my parents and we are a couple. I will get those documents certified (not seen it done for free here tho!). Do we need to provide group certificates/mortgage info now or wait to be asked by Perth? Thanks Emma
  3. Hi guys, we emigrated 2 years ago from Yorkshire to the Mornington Peninsula and found PIO incredibly useful when applying for our visa. We would like to sponsor my parents to live out here and they have just sent us their completed 143 visa form and documents. I wondered if anyone could clarify which documents we need to provide to accompany the form 40? Do they need to be certified? The guidance notes are a bit vague. Thanks in advance :-) Emma
  4. Hi we are moving into our 12 month rental in 2 weeks and wanted to get Telstra broadband and TV. They said no as we have failed their credit check. Anyone else had this problem? We have been in Vic for 4 weeks now and hubby has a job earning a good salary. We even offered to pay it all upfront and they still said no! Thanks Emma x
  5. Thanks guys, after a long chat I think we have decided to live near Frankston and OH travel into Melbourne on the express train. Going to phone up the letting agents tomorrow to look at some properties in Frankston South and Mount Eliza. I feel better now we have made a decision :-) xx
  6. Hiya, we have been out here 2 weeks and are currently renting in Mornington short term. OH has got himself a job (woo hoo!) in CBD so Mornington is too far (am gutted cos its LOVELY). Bayside would be great but we won't get a lot of house for our $. Can anyone recommend a SE/E suburb that is on a trainline (max 40-45 mins). Do people drive to the train stations and park (and if so how much is it to park)? Current thoughts are; Box Hill north/Doncaster (would need to drive to Box Hill station and park) Wheelers Hill (would need to drive to Glen Waverely and park) Mount Wavereley Mitcham Any ideas? Budget max 550wk and want 3or4 beds, 2 bathrooms and a garden Hubby starts work a wk on Monday and we want to get something sorted before that. We've only just started looking and if today is anything to go by I can't face driving 2 toddlers around housing estates all week! Help! A very grateful Emma x
  7. Hiya, it can take up to 12 weeks. Ours took 5 weeks last autumn, I suppose it depends on how many applications are in at the time. Hope it comes through for you soon.
  8. Hi Ack! We have been here just 4 days. How are you finding it? Sounds like you have settled in OK. We are renting further out in Mornington (short term) and hubby looking for a job. Would be great to meet up over the next few weeks with the kids if ya fancy? I will email you... Take care Emma
  9. Congratulations Millie, thats fab news! xxxx

  11. Hi Gem So sorry to hear about your Grandad ((hugs)) and I really hope your Nan is OK. We are moving to Melbourne on 6th Sept this year and I am a secondary school teacher also - can relate to your stress - am just writing my form tutor reports (oh also add 3 year old twins into the equation and I am def teetering on the edge LOL!) There is so much to do isn't there? We have sorted most of big stuff but its all the small stuff that we need do now. Make sure you rest when the hols start to recharge. Maybe we can meet up in Melbourne? Looked at any areas to live? Emma x
  12. Hiya, myself hubby and kids are moving to Melbourne on a PR visa in September. We are HSBC customers at the moment and have been given details of HSBC premier as will have over 50K from the sale of our house. Anyone had any good/bad experience with this? We opened an account with NAB and wondered what the benefit was staying with HSBC. Our local branch manager was clueless when we asked! Thanks Emma
  13. Good luck to you and your family, we are going to Mornington on the 6th Sept this year. Exciting times :-) xxx
