Hi Rachel,

We are hopefully moving mid September. We have two girls, 4 and 2. What are your plans for out there? Have you got jobs lined up or anything? What area you planning on living in.

We are currently waiting to hear about my partners 457 visa. Then going to see about areas when we get there...with some help from the nice people weve met on here!:cute::wubclub:

It's probably a good idea to have a look around Kate. There are so many areas to live in & around Mackay. Your girls are a fab age to make the move & i'm sure you will be fine with a little help

Hiya,

ive has seen quite a few threads of people mentioning Mackay, and have met a couple of nice people on here who are also heading that way. I just wondered who out there is also planning on moving to Mackay this year and what areas you have decided to move to and what you like about them - or areas you have looked into? This would be a huge help!

We have two daughters so obvioulsy we need to do our reseach to get the right area for them in terms of safety, schooling, other families to socialise with, activities.

And hello to you all too!:v_SPIN:

Thanks

Hi, tred carefully, Mackay is on the edge of the Bowen Basin http://www.bowenbasin.cqu.edu.au/ The area is rich in mining connections, has a booming economy which has caused inflation. unless you have a job in the mining or related industry... it can be expensive.

Mackay rivers are where the crocs start. no surf in Mackay and has months where you cant go in teh ocean due to blue bottles. so check.. think about the lifestyle you want, research housing www.realestate.com.au good luck !!

Mate, virtually all the Qld coast from Yeppoon north has no surf due to the Great Barrier Reef and it aint blue bottles, it's irukanji and box jellyfish...

Hi everyone moving to Mackay soon - hopefully - never heard of the place until 3 weeks ago. Can any 1 give me the heads up on relocating, not looking at anyone in particular but Bobi you seem to have answered a lot of similar posts, lol. can you give me some info ? We are wondering about the cost of food, schools, health and other stuff like is it a safe city / area what is the cost of running a car. I've researched rentals in N Mackay and the seem expensive - does rental costs include electricity and water charges. Hopefully I will have secured a job there soon and we have 4 girls coming with us. Any help is much appreciated.............. John
