Still-a-dream!
Hiya, ive has seen quite a few threads of people mentioning Mackay, and have met a couple of nice people on here who are also heading that way. I just wondered who out there is also planning on moving to Mackay this year and what areas you have decided to move to and what you like about them - or areas you have looked into? This would be a huge help! We have two daughters so obvioulsy we need to do our reseach to get the right area for them in terms of safety, schooling, other families to socialise with, activities. And hello to you all too!:v_SPIN: Thanks
Lexi
Hi Kate, Looks like it might just be me and you ha ha. Have you heard back from jellybeagle? She is also going to Mackay possibly just after me. The army have told us that they are now dealing with our request so fingers crossed the discharge papers will arrive soon. Bobj suggested I email Black Real Estate which I did and they are waiting for me to give them a date of arrival before they start looking. I have also just emailed another 7 real estate agents. Will let you know how I get on. Any word on your husbands job offer?

Bit of a thread flop -thats the last time I start one lol! :cute: That great uve heard back from the army, hopefully that will come soon and u can get one your way! Yeah Bobj mentioned those real estate people to me, you will have to let us know how you get on. With regards to the area, I have no idea from looking at a map - how big Mackay is, so cant work out whats near the centre etc, or miles away. We have had contact from the Job people now to say could we forward 'this, that and the other' to see if they would be able to obtain a visa based on our stuff, and then they will discuss the job offer more. Which makes sense I suppose. Kate xx
Jellybeagle
Hi Kate My partner Steve and I are moving out to Mackay hopefully towards the end of May - he is going to work for Siemens in Sarina - we would like to settle in Mackay so we get to meet loads of people, areas we have been looking at are Andergrove, Glenella and Mount Pleasant but at the moment we haven't decided just somewhere high and dry. Its strange you see as we'd never even heard about Mackay until about a month ago, when we found out about a job for my partner. But looking on its main webiste, it looks lovely. Youll be looking for places with nice walks etc for your doggies then! Kate x
Bobj
G'day you lot, suggest that you give Ooralea a miss...It is close to the racecorse and to the Racecourse sugar mill. The nearest shopping centre is the Four Ways, on the Nebo Road then the Canelands complex near the CBD. Racecourse Sugar Mill Cheers, Bobj. Still-a-dream!
Hi Angela, Thats great that your going for it - it shocks me to see I joined this forum July 2008, so we have been thinking about it, and trying to get there for a while and are still as far on as we were then! :-) I wont be working at first with the girls just being 3 and 1 now. But once we are settled in and know about nurserys, schools etc I will be wanting to work part-time. Im currently studying for my AAT - Level 3 (accounting) and not even sure if this is recognised over there. But I have previous experience as a Plant Accountant - but in Newcastle every part time job I go for have loads of applicants - I suppose the same in most jobs. Jellybeagle
We have found it all a bit over-whelming - we started looking seriously and Steve applying for jobs just after Christmas - this job I think was his third application - he is an electrical rail engineer - never thought it would happen this fast are you going with a sponsor ? I have been doing accounts/admin for the past 20 years (qualified by experience) but fancy a change in Mackay so will see how things pan out once we arrive - when are you arriving ? Lexi
Kate & Angela, I think the 3 of us should not work and we can chill out in the sunshine everyday with Lily, Charlotte, Jerry, Hugo, Molly & Alex while the boys go to work he he. Not forgeting Karl's wife and children and Bobj of course.

Still-a-dream!
Wow an offer of a babysitter before we even get there lol! In reply to your earlier questions - are you going with a sponsor ? There is a company willing to sponsor but they are doing the visa checks first before an actual interview. But the person who is doing their recruitment thinks we will have a very good chance, as my partner can do the job and works for similar company here. And its going on a 457 visa and then starting a permanent visa once we arrive.

Lexi
Thats so kind of you Angela offering to babysit. Same goes for your doggies too if you ever need them looked after. Kate - I will also babysit. Kate - Angela suggested that I go onto the Wooloworths website (just google woolworths online shopping Mackay queensland) and do a pretendy shop. It gives you an idea of how much you will spend each week on food and it really put my mind at rest. Still no word form the army on the discharge papers. We are moving out of our house today and moving in with my in laws, the tenants are loving in on Tuesday. Lets hope things move quickly not sure how long I can last in our new abode! Still-a-dream!
Hi ladies, Angela, wow April thats exciting! You will have to be our supply of information from there when you get there - after uve settled in a bit ofcourse! Once you know when you are going it will prob fly by while you get evrything sorted out etc. Lexi - Thats great your tenants are moving in, and before you head off so you can be here to iron out any issues etc. We have had our house on market for over a year now. Considering putting on interest only, and trying to rent it out. Not sure if you can do that though? So you will probably be mostly packed up now - bet that took a while. Thats the bit im not looking forward to I like the idea of the Woolworths thing - will be giving that a go. Police friend coming round today to sign police checks then off that goes! Must go as im being nagged to play with Duplo (i actually enjoy it just never seem to have time!).
Lexi
Thats great news Angela, we may be getting there at the same time! A tip that the Estate Agent gave us Kate was not to tell your mortgage provider that you renting out because they make you change your deal with them and can charge you some pricey admin fees. Ours is interest only for now and it was rented out within 3 weeks of being on the market. Its also a good safety net in case things dont work out (but they will). Yeah the packing up was horrendous! We have somehow managed to fit our life from a 3 bedroom house into a bedroom and actually its rather cosy. Ask me again in a month and i might not feel the same way haha. Cant wait to meet the beagles Angela, Alex is just as cheeky!
