did anyone else apply to attend the Expo on 11 & 12 Sept in London hosted by Skills Australia? I remember there was a post on here a while ago but can't find it (well gave up searching after a few pages :err:)

anyway we applied and were told by e-mail that we would find out the outcome late August...well i may seem impatient but it is now the last day in August and still no news - good or bad but the Expo is only 11 days away.

has anyone else heard anything? would be interested to know...

cheers

I went to the 2008 one and none of the dates were met, I ended up booking flights to London without knowing whether I'd be going or not! BUT I went and found a sponsor and I am now close to two years in Australia :)

We're also waiting.....

Should we book a flight or not?? :arghh:

How would you feel about a weekend in London if you didn't get an expo ticket?

If you are under 45 with a skill on the new SOL then there is a high chance you will get a ticket otherwise I wouldn't risk it unless you can easily afford it and would enjoy the trip anyway.

Hi, I have just received an email to say that we got tickets for the expo and that we will be notified in 24 hours of the day and time. So this doesn't help with planning as yet, as I'm not sure when to book trains for! It also says that it is only 1 ticket per request, so I won't be able to go in with my hubby. I have questions too that I want answering!!!!!!!!!!!!

ditto you redrobbers dog.

we've got the ticket, bit annoyed it's only one but hey ho. We already have our visa though and tbh from the covering note on our email it still sounds all tradies and healthcare reps attending - which we're not.

We only want to go if theres going to be some key companies / recruitment consultants attending tbh - hopoefully DIAC won't be all cloak and dagger about revealing which prospective employers will actually be attending.

Yeah my hubby is a motor mechanic so we are hoping for there to be some recruitment people there. its states on the email "We have a number of employers attending the event who are looking to fill particular skilled positions across engineering, healthcare and trades/construction" so I'm not holding out much hope that there will be anyone there for him to see specifically in the motor trade. We can but hope! I really hope that it's not a wasted trip. They did ask us for specific details of my hubbies occupation, so I am seeing this as a positive! Good Luck!

Hi all,

We've had a positive reply too (well OH only!) He's in IT, what occupations are the rest of you in?

Hopefully looking for 457 sponsorship

Hi All

On previous showings, the chances of DIAC answering any questions about which exhibitors will be attending this thing are zero. The idea is that the applicants take pot luck about that.

Have they named the venue or haven't they booked the venue as yet?

Thanks

Gill

Hi we got our e-mail today but unfortunately were declined an invite...it said our skills weren't aligned to the exhibitors. i'm in HR (so didn't have much hope in that) OH is in IT but can't remember what specialism he wrote.

Either way we were more interested to speak to any State reps that may have been at the event. we've been to one before and found most of the employer reps were from healthcare or engineering so no good for us anyway...but the State reps were very helpful.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who goes wehther the States are there given that none have had their SMPs approved yet (and what they indicate about them!).

well done to those of you who got a place and i hope the trip (and all the queuing) is worthwhile - good luck!

checked our emails again and still not heard a dicky bird.

OH is a Carpenter so doubt if any construction/buiding companies will be there anyway.

However I may be proved wrong!!
