Conniebygaslight
Its rainy, and dull in Tas today, so my washing is in the tumble drier I find Australia is British in some ways, but more American in stuff they say,and the way we have Senators and the way things are spelt. It does surprise me though, the lack of choice.I just think this is how it has been for so long, people just accept , so nothing changes. The principal hit the nail on the head, I think, sometimes I feel like I live on another planet:arghh: What part of the UK will you be heading for Connie? We are moving back to a village about 25 mins for York...How about you? I just remember the wars of the roses (from the odd occasion that I attended school) and latterly, the "friendly" rivalry between my old regiment (The Queens Lancashire) and the Yorkshire Regiment. The inter regiment boxing matches were blood baths..........and that was outside the ring! :biglaugh: kev

pumpkinpie
I miss everything you guys have mentioned plus the following: * affordable good quality bedding - it's such poor quality at crazy prices. * Next, Boots and M & S * affordable Australian wine!!!!! eg Brown Brothers and Wolf Blass (much cheaper back home) * Shops opening until at least 8pm * choice of gluten free products, such as types of bread and sweets - naughty I know but they all contain wheat over here!! * good quality clothing at ok prices. * choices, not talking the video store I mean variations such as phone/internet companies - also mobile phone deals!! They don't seem to count in minutes here. * Pretty village * Country pubs, I know this has already been listed but felt the need to mention again! * Oh yeah and most importantly, I miss good value for money. If/when we return to the uk I'll never feel ripped off again!

Skani
* affordable good quality bedding - it's such poor quality at crazy prices. * good quality clothing at ok prices. As someone born in Oz, I have to agree. But it hasn't always been like this - it has really deteriorated since the 1980s. I'm actually thinking of ordering some bedlinen online from overseas: does anyone have any recommendations? (have started looking at the Debenhams site). Thanks, Vivien

Thanks, Vivien I must say I believe thats why Aussies have such a great work/life balance so it is nice in that respect - just something I miss thats all - takes a bit of getting used too. I've tried to order bedding from the UK (I did know that Debenhams and M&S delivered to oz) but I've not found anywhere that stocks queen size bedding, I knew we should have ordered a King bed! I'm still using bedding that my mother bought in Australia - and she died in 1977! Whereas things I have bought here within the last few years - supposedly "good quality" brand names - are falling to bits already. Does queen size not exist in the UK?
