Australian Drivers License to UK driving license

I'm afraid they do physically take your Australian license off you. I think they send it back to the RTA

Australian Drivers License to UK driving license

Just to update people on this issue, I have swapped my P1 NSW license for a full UK driving license with no problems, it took about a week.

Do yourselves a favour and don't come back!

Well just for a bit of balance, I'd say do come back if your heart is in the UK. I moved back from Sydney with my wife 6 weeks ago we've bought a beautiful home with no mortgage I have a higher paid job and it's wonderful living near family and friends It's not all doom and gloom.

    A little update from Yorkshire

Just to add, the weather is beautiful at the moment, went for a 6mile walk up around castle hill area last night finished with a few pints of black sheep at a nice pub, walked home wilst it was just starting to get dark at 10. The views took my breath away and made me feel like I'm home :-)

Plan a BBQ, I hope you're not going to Sydney, the amount of BBQ's and outdoor events that got cancelled because of the rain was quite a shock to me.

It wasn't a mistake (unlike confusing a city for a county) your search was for for foreign visitors, a tourist doesn't have to be foreign. And even if we use your search of only foreign tourists you still prove my point to Paul. And as I said it was light hearted banter I'm really not THAT bothered about the visitor statistics for either Perth or Yorkshire.

I don't have anyone doing anything, I just showed the link for the statistic. And it's Yorkshire the county not York the city. And anyway I was only having a bit of banter with Paul I'm really not having a contest.

Right Paul seeing as you are proud to live in a place people love to visit and is hot tourist destination why not move to Yorkshire? A quick google search tells me Yorkshire attracts 216m visitors a year, I would imagine that's more than Australia never mind Perth ;-)

My wife is from Perth and we got married there. The winery we got married was nice, as was kings park and the city, other than that I found the place to be too spread out and lacking any kind of character and history, really not the place for me, or my wife for that matter, she recently returned from a two week trip to see the family and said it was Hicksville and like stepping back in time 20 years. Now having said all that I'm sure as I'm your case you see the place different and it offers you and your family what you want from life? We are all different you see. I am not happy in Yorkshire because we are financially better of here I happy because this is my home. I am sure many people do visit Perth but even with your blinkers on you must admit it's way behind at least 3 other Australian citys in terms of tourist destinations, anyway Im sure Yorkshire attracts just as many visitors per year although what that proves I don't know.

Guys, please calm down I'm really not having a dig at Perth or looking for an argument, I was just saying I don't think Perth is a top visitor destination for people travelling to Australia compared to the eastern side of Australia mainly because of it's distance from places like Sydney and Brisbane. I also realise we have been fortunate with the exchange rate but I was just pointing out that at this point in time people can do very well by moving back to the UK. and lastly there's nowt wrong wi bratfud, it has a mediayseym ya know ;-)

Paul, with regards to debts and mortgages, the move back to the UK means we don't have either. We've gone from having a 3000 dollar a month mortgage for a stratad wooden shack to £0 a month for a beautiful refurbished Victorian cottage. Now money isn't everything but not having any debts in our mid 30's certainly takes the pressure off a bit. Also I'm not sure Perth is a massive tourist destination, east Australia yes but I would think Perth would be one of the last cities people would visit on a trip to Australia (due to it's isolation!)

    A little update from Yorkshire

Well, we've been back two weeks tomorrow and it's great to be back! we've bought a beautiful 1850's Victorian House, bought a car and Ive had loads of offers of Freelance work, I've done a few days work already. Its really great to feel like 'me' again and I hadn't realised just how much I missed and loved the landscape of Yorkshire, it really is quite stunning. Ive noticed some of the effects of the recession, pubs and shops now closed etc but overall everyone seems really happy and its great to be surrounded by British humour again. Also apart from petrol, everything seems really cheep, I'm not one for pre packed meals but the dine in for 2 things for a tenner at M&S are just fantastic and just walking around Tescos is great to see all the choice and at decent prices. Having my first decent curry for a long while was just superb and a nice pint of real ale in a decent pub surrounded by friends is just heaven! The weather has been a bit iffi but if I'm honest Ive been loving the cooler climate and drizzle rather than tropical rain of Sydney. All in all its great to finally feel at home as for two years Ive woken up thinking something is not quite right, but that feeling went as soon as we drove from the airport over the pennines into Yorkshire :-)
