  1. Following on from my review earlier in the post - We are in Brisbane and PSS partner with a company called Overseas Packers and Shippers.... Awful!! See below a letter of complaint written to them this morning... We recently shipped our belongings from the UK to Australia using PSS - They must partner with you for the last mile delivery. When we received our shipment - the packaging around our belongings was in a terrible condition. We spoke to the delivery driver and he said that it was customs that inspected the boxes, so it must have been them. I made a complaint to customs - See below. --------------------------------------------------------- We have recently relocated back to Australia after a 3 year stay in the UK. We shipped all of our furniture from the UK and feel that our belongings were not treated with any respect. Boxes were slashed open with sharp knives narrowly avoiding the contents, Expensive wooden furniture was ripped into and then not wrapped back up properly leaving it exposed. My wife described one box as though it looked like criminals had been going through it - describing everything as just thrown back in. We fully understand the need for strict quarantine in Australia and indeed encourage it. However we we feel like we were charged $600 for our belongings to be torn through with no regard for their condition. We know that staff are busy and time is tight, but feel this is no excuse for the manner in which the inspection took place. Imagine yourself moving house and having people slash their way through the packaging half way through the transit with little or no care of how it would arrive at the destination. You too would complain. -------------------------------------------------------- Customs have since responded advising that they do not open any boxes or indeed pack anything back up - that is the job of the shipping company. He also advised that their charge is just $75 for inspection and nothing for disposal of the item they found in breach. So not only has Overseas P & S lied to us, but charged us a lot of money to tear through our belongings with no regard for it's condition. We are not happy with the service provided and after looking online, we are not the only ones. Rest assured that I will be writing to PSS and letting them know the level of service their last mile partner is offering. Very disappointed.... Perhaps PSS should reconsider this partnership...
  2. Very poor experience with PSS - 3,000 pounds for a full container Received items last Thursday Packers were lazy, said they would double wrap fragile wood furniture - didn't Plastic storage tubs just had the lids taped on and then were loaded in - Some items not wrapped Cosmetic liquids and books packed together The list goes on - not impressed
  3. Just as an FYI for those reading this thread - Privilege and Direct Line no longer accept aussie no claims - they advised this changed about 3 months ago They are both underwritten by UK Ins Ltd - this cant be a coincidence. Tesco still do - can't comment on any others - can say make sure that it is a hard copy letter though - we tried e-mail and that was not acceptable.
  4. Ok it's got to go as we fly next week Who will give me $3000 for it?
  5. Yes mate, we are ready for the next stage - 1 baby and another on the way. No family here so back we go into the fold
  6. I feel your pain, I hated looking for rentals The competition is very high and anything that could be seen as negative goes against you. Good luck with the search
  7. My accent is now officially a Hybrid People here think I am very English, People in th UK tell me that I have Ozzie twang.... I am an uncomfortable mixture!

  10. Hi Gordon We are moving back to the UK from Brisbane in July but want to have everything sold up by end of June. We have a house full - Sofa, Dining set (6 chairs), Coffee Table, 42" LCD TV, Surround Sound, PC, Desks, Outdoor setting, some camping gear, plus lots of those everyday bits & bobs e.g. laundry airer and storage items... We are taking the bed, cot and 2nd sofa back to the UK though. Let me know if any of this interests you....?
  11. Now that we have had our daughter we are also struggling for money. One wage doesn't cut it here and I am not in a bad job either... We are going home in July after 5 years here and are looking forward to it. Australia has been great to us and I will miss it a great deal, but with a daughter and another on the way I want the kids to be amongst family and friends. That's our priority....
  12. There is good skiing in the Snowy Mountains and in New Zealand so I would think twice about your Snow Jacket Just playing devils advocate!
  13. We rent our house out in the UK - Have done for 5 years. There have been a few minor issues but the agent and family have helped out. It's the best thing we could have done as we will always be on the property ladder in the UK, should we ever move back. The place is even making a little profit now
  14. One thing that has not been mentioned that you are sure to find different is the humidity. Coming from Wales and then Adelaide, you won't have experienced anything like it. If you are renting maybe a place with a pool would be advisable - It really helps to cool off in the summer. Living on a hill really helps in the summer too and aircon in my opinion is a must. That said the winters are beautiful - just like British summer days. As you are coming in March the heat will be dying off and the best months of the year will be greeting you. As a city Brisbane is very nice - Commute times can be high if you are out of the city a little way. But as was mentioned Sandgate, Brighton and Shorncliffe are nice areas by the bay. If you like forest then The Gap might be worth a try. If it's shopping that floats your boat then Cherside or Upper Mount Gravatt should be considerations. Sorry just kinda poured out my brain - ask something more specific if you like
  15. Hi We just had our baby at Royal Brisbane Women's on Medicare and the experience was great. There were complications with the birth but the hospital staff were on the ball and we now have a beautiful 7 month old girl.
  16. Doesn't seem that anyone has mentioned the gold coast area. Quite easy to be 10-15 mins from a beach and an hours commute into the city. Not lived there myself but plenty on here have and could throw in their opinion
  17. My wife and I just had a baby 6 months ago and the public system was very good. After hearing friends talk about the private care they got I really couldn't see a difference. I do think though that certain areas will be better than others. We had Eva at the Royal Brisbane and the staff were great. What the standards are like in suburban hospitals, i can't say.
  18. We took a few plastic plates and some cutlery with us in suitcases - and helped ourselves to the cutlery on the plane! bought the rest of the stuff cheap and waited or ours The less you ship in the the first place the less you will be waiting for
  19. We have an old Canon EOS400D Digital SLR I used a Tripod and about a 15 second exposure Very chuffed with how well it came out )
