I'm trying to plan as we expect to be over for July 1. We are a family of 4, the kids being 8 and 4 years old. What are the document requirements for the 457? The company has already completed the necessary 457 checks with the govt and it has approval. i guess the next stage is we formally apply. I'm told this could take a few days or a few weeks to approve? Also, as I'm 40 this year, I'm conscious that I'll be close to 44 come visa expiry time and whilst I'm open minded, I dont expect to return to the UK (I spent 15 years in South Africa and still miss it!!). At what point can one apply for permanent residency and, what are the success rates? I bring 19 years of marketing experience, some very specialised and about 7 years of senior-director level experience but I dont possess a degree (I could do an MBA, but what about beach time? :-). I guess what I'm trying to get a feel for is just how strict the PR authorisation process is around degree level qualifications and the just how much the qualifications influence the outcome. Is experience (will then be 20+ years) highly regarded or will the lack of formal qualifications count against me? Whats a positive skills assessment? Ratchet Posted April 12, 2010 Share Posted April 12, 2010 As far as paperwork you'll have to go onto the immi.gov website to formally apply online and attach all supporting docs. As for ENS - PR following 457....you can ask that the company support straight away and enter oz on a ENS visa....its up to the company, you dont need to wait 2 yrs. the positive skills assessment is at cost to you but id say be worth it in the long run if the pr is possible straight away. Its a question you need to put to them as im sure every employer is different when it comes to the ENS. Ive been very fortunate at having my nomination approved after 6 months but the policy at my work is 12 months. Email them outlining your intention to invest not only in the company but also in the country long term, not just on a temp basis and ask how they see their role in supporting the ENS One thing to note - from an employers perspective, they have had their fingers burnt by some employees getting the visa through them leaving the company, hence why some companies remain cautious Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Any help appreciated, thanks Paul Hi Paul, If the company only has the sponsorship approved, they will still need to also lodge a 457 nomination application for the position, before you can lodge the visa application. Processing times for the 457 visa will vary from 2 to 12 weeks depending on many factors. Documentation requirements for the visa vary depending on circumstances but are basically qualification or experience documents and identifications such as passports and birth certificates for kids. The DIAC website has a checklist you can follow. Without any formal qualification to enable you to obtain a positive skills assessment, you will need to work on the 457 for two years before the company can nominate you for Permanent Residence. If you have the support of your Australian employer, PR should not be too difficult in 2 years, as long as the regulations do not change too dramatically. My action is to do the two years (and do a good job for the company), use the LAFHA, make sure we want to stay and then apply for PR - they are happy to pay 50% of the $6000 so thats fine with me.
