Maybe strange, but also maybe my Meds have already been assessed and accepted.... I'm sure my CO would have told me if there was a problem with the Meds, but don't think she would have any reason to tell me if Meds had been accepted. I don't see a reason to ask at this stage as my focus is on providing the CO with the correct Police Certificate.

Now that I have stopped getting ahead of myself and have actually "Read-The-Flippin-Instructions" as it says on the tin.:yes:

Don't Worry........ Be Happy!!!

I just try to found out how this working, you said that your CO said have to waiting four month, but now I see that you already paid AoS. So that is it your medical OK and they ask to pay AoS and when you think will get visa. Now i think it is not four month, and now I think why I have to wait so long. Sorry I bother you

You have not bothered me at all Piramida.... And I support your trying to find out how things are working which is what this forum is all about.... exchanging our experiences! But I don't think things happen exactly the same for everybody. My S-I-L who did the AoS is the kind of person who gets things done at the earliest possible opportunity, whereas I do things at the latest possible opportunity..... My S-I-L may even have nagged Centrelink so much that they said please just pay the AoS bond, to get rid of him.....

I fully understand every bit of your frustration, but reckon we are going to get there before the middle of this year.... One of my grandsons is scheduled to have a big operation towards the end of June, and I want to be there to help support the family.

I am heading to Victoria, where are you heading Piramida?

I wish everything the best to your grandson. I understand you very well, I have twins granddaughter, and youngest one had operation on hart just tree days after come on this world. It was so so stressful. I been in Australia three times and I heading to NSW Sydney.

I'm planning for when I hopefully get asked to produce the dosh, and can recall some discussion in this thread many moons ago, about making the large VAC payment to the Embassy in London, instead of the PVC in Perth, when this made financial sense, depending on exchange rate fluctuations since the previous "fix".

I'm probably just being thick but am afraid I cannot get the search function to find anything of this nature. Does anybody perhaps have any info on this please?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy,

My understanding is that for UK residents payment can be made in sterling to Australian High Commission in London. The exchange rate you would get is that at which your initial application was converted. (In our case on 12 April 2012 our 1st VAC was converted at 1.4855.) When I last looked quite recently it was less than this, so it we were asked for the second VAC now it would make sense to pay in sterling at the High Commission.

Perhaps someone can confirm this for us?

Regards

Rowley

Andy,

Correction - I believe the theory is still correct, but have just checked the exchange rate on Moneycorp and as of the above date and time the rate was 1.5198 - so, at this moment it would be better to pay in $AUS in Oz.

So, in addition to everything else, we all have to be currency exchange experts with fingers poised on the enter key, waiting for the exact right moment, or not .........

G'day

In summary, for current rates payable overseas, see http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/converter.htm.

In London, currently (until 30 June 2103) you have to pay 65p for every $A1 of fees – ie, a current exchange rate of 1.5385.

Until recently, this was a much better rate than you'd get from ForEx specialists, let alone High St banks, but with yesterday's drop in RBA interest rates (3% to 2.75%), the Ozzie could continue dropping – watch that space!!

Good luck, Mike (another one!)

I saw now that you have same case like me, about visa Subclass 173. I made Medical 18. February 2013, not on line, so they get it after 8-10 days. Please can you tell me do you know how long time is waiting time for checking Medical. My CO said now we have to wait for checking Medical, and now this kill me. Every day is so long. Thank you very much

Mike,

Thanks for the enlightenment .... it appears I was talking a load of cobblers. The rate we would get at the Australian High Commission for the 2nd VAC in London is what is the fixed rate in force at the time, and nothing to do with what we got when we paid for the 1st VAC. Actually we will almost certainly be paying our 2nd VAC in 2H2013 so the drop in RBA interest rates to 2.75% could help us to pay more cheaply in $AUS in Oz.

That's plenty for me to chew on, thanks!

Btw, I see my CO letter states that my 2nd VAC (Visa Application Charge) will be $40,015. With the Ozzie reputation for being laid back, and their nice minimum 5 cent coins, I would have expected them to round it down to $40,000.

Thanks,

Andy

Andy,

Agreed, there's not a lot you can buy for 15c in Oz these days.

PARENTS VISITOR VISAS

Apparently there have been some changes for parents visiting their (permanent resident) children in Australia to allow accumulated visits of up to 18 months in every two years, if my memory serves me correctly.

Can any one please direct me to a definitive statement on this issue?

Well, wait and see – DIAC will adjust its rate on 1 July.

I sympathise, but as others have said it varies a lot. Why don't you send your CO another email after you have waited, say, a month?

Congratulations, I am very pleased. Thank you because you share news.

I am so disappointed, and I become indifferent about it. When my son talk last time with CO, he said Panel doctor have to check our Medical there is same problem, and he ask him which problem, and he said "I do not know", and now we thinking every day what is problem. We are health and I do not know any idea what going on. Do you know if is possible that DIAC put our case for next year.

Thank you very much Andy and Mike. It is so nice that you try to help me. I will contact CO for two weeks. I just thinking do they understand how to all of us feel, and how is stupid we have just wait and can not to do nothing. I will feel better if I know I have any problem, what is problem, and how long have to wait.

Hi everyone

Just thought I would give an update - which has left me quite stunned !!!. After only 3 weeks on the market I have accepted an offer on my house. Yesterday I was allocated a Case Officer who has requested medicals and they wish to finalise my application before 30 June. I just cannot believe how this is all working so well. I thought I would not get a Case Officer for several more months. My daughter was saying that June is the end of the financial year and they will be pushing through as many as possible to get the figures up and also get more money in.

Hi Cath

How exciting for you!

Isn't it always the way, you wait so long for something to happen, then it all happens at once.....

Hope everything goes smoothly and hope to hear the next 'instalment' soon......from Aus!!!!

Cheers, Pam (presently spending the last two weeks of our three month holiday out here. Have loved every second!)

Hi Cath

How absolutely fantastic to have had an offer on the house! I am so pleased for you, hope it all continues to go smoothly.

Kath

PS If I were you I'd keep very quiet about going to Australia in case they try to get a last minute reduction
