NURSES - Moving to Australia

It's not really the signing of documents that's worrying me, I got them redone by a notary public and got an email from AHPRA saying every-things now in order but they "have no time frame for dealing with applications from internationally qualified nurses and midwives", which sounds a little bleak! Does anyone know what changes AHPRA are making to make the application process more robust? It concerns me what it says on their website.

I think they must be busy. Or triple checking everything! I'm really frustrated! I had an e mail this morning stating that despite my entire skills assessment file being sent to there office I have to repeat....

2 forms of ID can only be signed by justice of the peace,

verification of registration again

statements of service for past 5 years again!

Proof of professional development in past 12 mmonths updated CV!

all these documents were originally sent via an agent for my skills assessment and certified! Arggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Sorry to have a winge but really thought this was all done!

I'm in the same boat too, resent my docs after being signed by magistrate and after chasing them three weeks later I received an email sent from a donotreply address explaining they'd been received on the 5th September ...still heard nothing since.

I emailed via the web enquiry form again yesterday and waiting for a response...My next option is to stay up till midnight and phone them!

Sooo frustrating!

I know your right Lorna ...it will soon be distant memory, but the long wait is driving me potty!!

And we are also still waiting on a reply, documents were requested to be certified by a recognised person, which we promptly did and sent them off again. Email to confirm they received them, another email to say that they are under consideration, "we appreciate your patience at this time.. etc etc"

Hi nomicon which AHPRA office are you waiting on?

From what I can tell it's the Perth Office.

We were given a deadline to submit further documents:

If you do not provide the information necessary to complete your application, AHPRA will be unable to progress your application for registration. This information is required by close of business 6 November 2013. If you do not provide the information by that time AHPRA will consider that you do not wish to pursue your application for registration and this will be discontinued in accordance with section 80(5) of the National Law. Therefore, if you wish to proceed with your application, you must submit the above documentation by close of business 6 November 2013.

Which we paid through the nose to ensure they arrived well before, the Officer our application was assigned to had been on annual leave till the 5th November however they confirmed receipt of the documents with the following:

Thank you for your email. I would advise that your application is currently receiving attention and we will be in touch in due course. Your patience is highly appreciated.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to reply my email or call AHPRA Customer Service on 1300 419 495.

It has only been a week since the last email from them so we are not quite into the panic phase yet, although it was originally submitted on the 2nd October.

However my wife has been looking into job applications wanting to line things up ASAP and is hesitant due to not actually knowing if everything is going through smoothly with AHPRA...

Hi all, I had my documents acknowledged with the Victoria office back in mid August, have had various emails from you will here in the next 2 weeks to you will here in the next 2 days. My latest response to my email asking for a timescale is below. It is not very encouraging!! Paul

Dear Mr Andre

Thank you for your enquiry.

As you are aware the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and AHPRA are currently reviewing and strengthening the process in place to support the nationally consistent assessment of applications for registration from internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNM).

Due to the high volume of overseas applications, there is currently no time frame available at this stage for outcomes of internationally qualified Nursing and Midwifery applications.

If there is any further information that the Registrations Team requires from you, we will contact you directly as soon as possible.

I noticed AHPRA took the fee from my bank account today, I don't know whether to see this as a sign they are processing it and it won't be absolutely ages before I get the LOE...or if It's just wishful thinking!

Hi joeybee...they took the funds out of my bank at the start of the process...three months ago! sorry to be the barer of bad news xx

AHPRA are so frustrating. I think it's wrong of them to make people wait for so long, they must've known they were going to review the application process, it's as if they've no organisation in place at all, and no consideration to the inconvenience they're causing people who have visa grants and then can't start work because of their delays. I am starting to get nervous about it, as I can't really move to Australia unless I'm registered with them!

Not exactly true. If all your documents are in order, they grant you registration there and then if you present yourself in person at the office saying that you need to work..............I know of several who have done this in the Brisbane office. Don't know though if that will be the case at the current time if they are going through changes.

In all fairness to AHPRA there must be hundreds of applications from all over the world - I don't know how it's organised if they just have a nursing division in each office, if not then they'll be dealing with applications from other professions as well.

Kind Regards

That is somewhat alarming and frustrating.

When did the "Strengthening" start?

When did they do this? This year or a year or so ago?

I feel a phone call tonight is in order, I'll try and extract some shred of hope or timeframe from them.

Have you got your registration sorted now. I'm in melbourne & keep getting fobbed off with same- we cannot tell you when iqnm checks will be completed. I need to find work. Money running out fast & need to sort house for family. This is a joke. Anyone know best way to deal with this? Please.

Hi, as I have been in the aphra system since mid august, 4 months since acknowledgement email, is there anyone currently receiving registration confirmation. Is there anyone else who has been waiting this long? Paul

That's what I was trying to find out today, however the contact number given for Out of Australia callers was shut, and I have been unable to find a Perth based phone number.

I am tempted to reply stating this, as they are so keen to spout legislation when we ask about applications:

[h=2]How long will my application take to process?[/h][h=3]If your application is considered complete[/h]This means AHPRA has received all the information to complete an assessment. Refer to the relevant section of The Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 ('the National Law'). The standard timeframe for the assessment of a complete application is:

  • Up to 10 days for graduate applications

  • Up to 10 days for provisional to general applications

  • Up to 10 days for specialist applications (where general is already held)

  • Up to 4-6 weeks for all other application types.
