Hi Ruby

Just thought I'd offer some support I'm at the exact same point as you just waiting for Visas to get accepted and our medicals were received about a month ago! Life feels like it is in limbo at the moment cant make any plans and just checking emails everyday and like you say it is so nerve racking! We have an enlistment date of Jan 2013 so lets hope we hear something soon! I emailed Wendy Hughes to ask for some advice and she said wait until beginning of August as the Immigration department are having a go slow period in July while they upgrade their IT system and are sorting through some teething problems!

Sarah

Hi Sarah have u heard from immigration? We are still waiting, its so frustrating not knowing, we have a date of the 10th of jan to enlist is this the same for you, I can't believe it's just over 4 months away and still no visas it's been nearly 8 weeks since they received our application I know they can take much longer so I guess I just need to be a bit more patient

Hi all

Hubby is transferring across hopefully Jan 2013. We have COS, medicals and visa sorted. However, currently struggling with RN about release dates. Did anyone else have a problem? If so, any advice via here or PM would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn

I can't believe you have everything sorted already wish we were that organised. With regards to ur question about release dates how long ago did ur other half put his notice in as most people I now have got early release so long as they have a job offer and do at least 3 months and depends if there on a boat or inboard, I got sent inboard as soon as stuck my notice in, I took a risk before I recieved my COS and put my notice in in Jan to make sure I would meet my enlistment date as I was told by my superiors that I would not get early release so I though sod it. They like to make things as difficult as they can. If they still say no to him leaving in Jan I would go and seek legal advice I am pretty sure the mob won't challenge legal action so good luck and hopefully me and my family be leaving with u and hoppy29 in Jan (only 4 month away!)

Hi Ruby

Not heard about Visas but we have heard from the medical department they need some more information on a medical issue with my husband which we have sorted and it is getting sent out on tuesday. It is really frustrating as they received our medicals back in June and it took them until August to ask for the information I guess we just have to sit tight and wait. I have e-mailed both the visa and medical departments but they don't seem to answer emails. I am hoping to have an answer by end of sept as I still need to put my notice in the Navy and ask for early release. Fingers crossed we hear something soon.

Yeah we're here, arrived late last monday night - to RAIN!!!!! lol! though the weather has improved since then. the weekend (the last one of winter was really nice, spent most of it at the beach) i've already tried to post this an it dissapeared from my page, so apologies if it does double post!

The trip over was pretty exhuasting but great fun. Airlines we're great, Cathy Pacific business class is the way to do it ;o) Hong Kong was amazing, only complaint is we never had long enough there. only really one full day. highly recommend going on the cable cars up to the Big Buddah, t'was awsome and the kids loved it too.

A couple of wee pointers though - check out your itinery and double check bookings with each company. our taxi came to pick us up from house and it was just a black cab for 4 people 4 huge cases, 7 hand luggage bags and a buggy. not the comfiest taxi ride i've ever had. Then hotel in HK was supposed to be adjoining rooms (we have 6 + 2 year old) they weren't even on the same side of the corridor, not really a biggie for us either as we've all been bunked in together for weeks now anyway but wouldn't have been chuffed if i'd been paying for it myself.

Now staying in holiday apt in Rockingham, signed for house on fri but furniture pack not arriving till this week some time so staying put till then.cycle distance from base, 1k from beach and just round the corner from school. Scott in at work on tuesday, trying to get Libby enrolled at school today.

can't move for play parks lol, very family orientated (which was a big selling point for us)

have spoke to a few folk since i got here who have came over on their own and really struggle to get a rental, it seems it is as bad as they say on here, so i'm thinking we're pretty lucky. it is frustrating, the waiting's torture but it does get there in the end.

good luck to those waiting on visa news, hope you get it soon.

Hi Ruby

We now have it sorted (with a little help from people in the RAN!) He put his notice in in July (once we got the final offer from the RAN) and he has now been released in time to start in January. The problem is that as a result of the number of redundancies, and the number of people putting their resignations in as they are fed up with the way we are all being treated, his branch is on the verge of imploding and they have been told that everybody must be held to a 12 month notice period. We spoke to one of our UK contacts in the RAN who helped us by having some quiet words at senior level, but we did have a barrister on standby in the background if necessary. He is working for a number of RN people at the moment who are in a similar position and have been led to believe that they will be released, but when handing their notice in, have found that they are being held to the 12 months, despite having job offers etc.

We were quite lucky as regards our visa. We had already decided to apply to Australia and had our visa application in, when my husband was contacted with a job offer from the RAN. Thus we got our visa through in about 6 weeks from the moment it went in (that included the time getting medicals and police checks). We are very excited about going and now have the task of sorting everything out in the garage that hubbie never quite got round to sorting out when we moved in. He is a hoarder and has taken quite some convincing that actually he does not still need his A Level books, or every single piece of paper he has ever written anything on!

Where are you being posted to? We are going to Canberra initially!

Hi Sarah

If there is a problem with the RAN re the medical issue, be aware that you have the right of appeal. My husband had a knee and back problem (long since resolved) but every time a new doctor appears on the base, they ask him how his back and knee are. He says "fine" and they then put on his notes that his back and knee have been reviewed, which makes it seem like there is an ongoing problem. As a result the RAN withdrew the offer and told us we could appeal. We went (via a private GP rather than waiting for the military to get their act together and agree to referring him) to a specialist my GP recommended. We saw him within the week and he said there was absolutely no problem and wrote a letter to that effect, which we scanned and sent across to the RAN. Three days later the decision was reversed and the job offer confirmed, at which point my husband put his notice in. Fortunately we already had our visa application in and we got our visa the following week.

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi Carolyn

The medical issue is actually with the Visa medicals, but we have the report done they require and it is being sent off today so fingers crossed. I also had a knee problem which the RAN medical officer said I was unsuitable for transfer but like you I appealed the decision and got a private knee specialist to do a report which worked and they accepted my appeal. Now just one more hurdle to jump through. I am waiting to put my notice in until the visas have been accepted but time is getting tight now and I don't want to leave it to late as I also have an enlistment date of Jan 2013. Will keep everyone posted when I hear anything. Hope all is going well for your husband and getting his release dates.

Take care Sarah

That must be so frustrating about the medical issue especially if they could of sorted it out earlier fingers crossed they get it sorted quickly. I spoke to Australia house yesterday and was told that all our medical stuff had been completed and cleared which is good as we phoned sydney two weeks ago and they still had to process the two younger kids medicals so fingers crossed we should get some news (good news hopefully) soon, the wife and I are running out off hair to pull out, the thought that in the next 4 months we could be taking our three kids to perth on the other side of the world just doesn't seem possible or real. Just praying for visas and checking emails every morning. Hope u here something soon.

Hi Ruby

I going to ring Australia House tomorrow and see if they can help with fast tracking our medical as I have sent emails to Global Health and my Case Officer and heard nothing from them. It is so frustrating as everything seems to go at snails pace and there is only four months left until we are expected in Oz. I am waiting until our visas have been accepted until I put my notice in and then request early release. There just seems so much to do once the visas have been accepted aswell! Like find somewhere to live, sort out schools and finances. Like you and your family we are pulling our hair out and check emails every morning! I'll keep you posted when we hear any news and hope your not waiting to much longer.

Sarah please dont worry to much, I was like you and nearly made myself ill with worry. Everything will fall into place.

Your case officer will be dealing with others and everything does happen at snail pace.

Sorting out somewhere to live and schools are not a big thing, you will have plenty of time to do that when u get here, we didnt do any of that untill we got here, if your coming in JAN the school will be shut anyway as the kids are on summer holidays.

And like I have said we didnt get our visa until 5 weeks before we flew here.

Take care and speak soon

Hi Anita I cant believe you got visas so late I think my wife would go crazy, I leave the RN at the begining of dec and due to join early Jan I think I will be out looking for jobs and attending interviews if we dont get our visa approval soon, The RAN said they need 3 month to sort everything out once the visas are approved ie removals flights and housing. It must off been manic for you before you got your visas 5 weeks is not long to sort anything out, looking back on this thread you can tell the frustration of people before me waiting for COS,LA and Visas and it all turned out well for them so heres hoping, there also doesnt seem to be any consistancy in time scales I mean 5 day to 5months + is some variation.

Hi Ruby like you have said everyone seems to be different. We also waited 5 months for out LA and that was a nightmare aswell.

Doug had put is notice in, he had to give them 12 months. We had sold our house and was living MQ (we never told them that Doug had his notice in) if we had they would'nt have given us a house.

I didnt sleep past 5am for about 9 month's. I was up checking emails everyday.

The day we got the visa's was great, Doug said he knew we had got them by the way I ran upstairs, in stead of just walking and just getting back into bed. The worse thing was I couldnt ring anyone as it 4.30 in the morning lol. Mind you saying that my sons visa was wrong they had the wrong DOB another worry, but they sorted it later that evening.

Everything was booked for us flights, hotel, and pickfords, out stuff didnt leave untill 3 days before flew here. Everything was a mad rush but Ruby it was all worth it..

Like I have said to Sarah just try to enjoy ur time with ur family and friends and everything will fall into place...

OMG VISAS GRANTED I can't believe it we are actually going to Australia in Jan, that was the longest 11 weeks and 1 day of my life. I checked my emails at 6.30 before going to work, nothing, so I though immigration will be closed now so defo no news today. Then my wife phoned me at work at 10.30 shouting at me for not checking the emails, 07.29 they sent the visa approval email. Roll on Jan and the sunshine.

Seriously, bring everything you can.

It's a good time to clear out all the broken and unused stuff but everything else, bring it! Washers / driers/ dishwashers (you'll get different opinions on here about bringing fridge freezers. We never brought ours because we had to leave for our tenants) lots of blankets, slippers and dressing gowns lol! (i know your coming in january and it will be hot but come winter the houses are bloomin' freezing.and the tiled floors are murder on your feet if id known how cold it got i would have brought some portable heaters. The house we got (and other DHA houses i've been in since arriving) have one gas heater to heat a whole house 3/4 bedroom.

coathangers!! and remember to put them in your air freight!!! not like us lol!. The temporary furniture pack didn't have things like clothes pegs, toilet brush, dish brush, bins. stick them in your airfreight.

do you have kids? we halved our airfreight, half with our bits and pieces and half with toys and books for the kids and their own duvet covers.

i can't think of anything else just now.

our sea freight arrived today and everything came. there were a couple of boxes had been opened but not many. i was worried about our bikes and some outdoor stuff we had brought. we had cleaned them but not obssessively to the point of jeyes fluid but they must have been fine as they got throughok, i just wish i had cleaned and brought the garden tools now as having buy them all again.

i've probably just waffled on, sorry. just thinking as i go.

good luck with the next stages and happy packing

Hi Jen

Thanks very much, we really were not sure what to bring, I have three girls so they will take up most of the air freight lol. Hopefully we shouldn't have to much junk, we still have not bothered to unpack since we moved into the MQ, now we need to wait for our pm key so we can look for houses, once we get pickfords round and get to start looking at houses then we might start to relies that this is actually going to happen, we still can't believe we have our visas I still woke up at 5.30 to check our emails this morning just out of habit. Thanks again and any advice at all is greatly appreciated.

Hi all

I've just got a few questions if anyone who is out there can help.

How long before you left did you get your pm key to be able to look at houses?

Also, did you stay in furnished accommodation until everything arrived by sea or did you move into MQ earlier and then make do with what you had sent by air freight?

How long did you get given a hire car for when you got there?

Many thanks

Hi Carolyn

My husband never got on homefinder until we got to Australia, I know some get on there and some dont, we where glad we did'nt get on there, we had the chance to look around and choose the best place for us. I have told people before, just because one pace is good for me does not mean its good for another...

We stayed in furnished accommodation untill we had found the right house to live in, I think it was about 4 weeks. When u find the right house the RAN well Toll do, they loan you everything you need untill ur own stuff gets here, all free of charge.

We where given a car for 3 days, I think its still the same time, its not really long enough we hired it for another 4 days after, Im sure they gave us a deal aswell..

Hope that helps

Hi Anita

Many thanks for that. I don't know whether I'm coming or going at the moment and am quite worried about the lack of contact from the RAN. My husband is quite happy on the grounds that if it all falls through then we can still go (as we are on a different visa), but I like to have everything sorted well in advance, particularly with 2 toddlers in tow!

What happened about your husband getting uniforms and id badges? Did he have an admin day when you got there?

Thanks

Carolyn
