Problem Applying For Citizenship

I’m 17 and want to apply for australian citizenship via descent, my dad was an australian citizen (aswell as his mother my grandma) and we always planned on getting myself an aussie passport, as i was born and live in the UK, however my dad passed in 2018, which is giving me the problem i have, on the immigration website on the application for citizenship by descent there is a form that has to be filled out the 1195 form? and there is a section that needs to be filled out by the person with the citizenship (my dad) but obviously i can’t get that done, and i don’t know what to do, can someone help me please. i have all the passports and citizenship evidence and death certificate etc.

Hi, you complete the 1195 form and need it witnessed by someone who has known you. It does say that person must be an Australian citizen, however if you are outside Australia you don’t need this . In the instructions it says

 

Note: If you are applying from outside Australia and do
not know an Australian citizen, Questions 2 and 3 can be completed, and the photograph endorsed and signed by
a citizen of your country of residence who has known you for at least one year, is currently working in a profession or occupation listed on pages 1–2, and is not related to you by birth, marriage or de facto relationship.
For children under 6 years of age, Questions 2 and 3 can be completed by an Australian citizen (or citizen of the child’s country of residence if applying from outside Australia) who has known the child for less than 12 months, is currently working in a profession or occupation listed on pages 1–2, and is not related by birth, marriage or de facto relationship.
What the photograph requirements are
You will need to submit a passport-size photograph with this form. The person who completes Questions 2 and 3 must also write on the back of your photograph the words:
This is a true photograph of [your full name]
and sign the back of the photograph using the same signature as at Question 3.
The photograph must be:
• no more than 6 months old, and
• a full-face view of your head and shoulders (untinted prescription glasses can be worn – a photograph that shows facial features only is acceptable if you wear a head covering for religious reasons), and
• of good quality, in colour, against a plain, light coloured background (laser copies are not acceptable).

my grandma is currently in the UK atm, could she possibly do that but i’m not sure as it says not related by birth, who’s best to do this?

Anyone from the list of professions who has known you for at least a year. A neighbour? Friend or even doctor. They don’t need to know you well just to confirm you are who you say you are.

do you know how much the applications cost? and the passports afterwards?

Citizenship by descent costs $315 ( make sure you do it on gov site not a third party. you will also need a Uk police check.

hi! just remembered about this and thought i’d give an update, i got accepted! pretty much straight away, about a month, in feb of this year i went to perth for 3 months and i’m going back next year permanently for uni! (also just wondering if i’m able to get into aus fine on my british passport with my aus citizenship on a one way ticket, going to get my aus passport when i’m there)

Congratulations.   

When you came to Perth 3 months ago, did you declare that you were an Australian citizen, or did you just arrive as a British citizen and say nothing about your Aussie citizenship?

yeah i did, in the uk at the desk they asked me if i was and checked my citizenship certificate as i obviously didn’t have a visa, then when i landed in perth they checked my passport but they didn’t need to see my certificate

If you managed it once then you can probably do it the same way next time but it would be easier with your Aussie passport
