That's insane! So you'd recommend it then?! We can't wait!

Of course you have up's and down's like you would living anywhere but we are almost 14 years here and no regrets yet. The weather is the biggest bonus for me and the space, ther'es so much space and so much to explore.

Ali, one of the other mods is from Preston, lol, so quite a few of us Northeners over here.

Ah it's good to see so many people from so close hve made the move! It definitely puts our minds at ease - I feel like there are some stressful times ahead before we get a visa granted!

I think the waiting for the visa was probably the most stressful for me but actually moving here and setting up all over again certainly tests you at times, i recall many tantrums in that first year, lol

I can imagine it's going to be stressful getting rid of all the stuff I've accumulated over the years - I'm not even the kind of person who keeps hold of things for sentimental value, yet I still seem to have a ridiculous amount of "stuff"!

I'm so jealous! How are you feeling?

Nice and chilled at the minute but that will probably change the day we fly haha.

Just ready to go now and my 2 girls cant wait which is a bonus.

Just a shame that we have to do 14 day quarantine, but that will probably be in place until next year so no way of avoiding it.

Ah yes of course. We are at the very beginning of our journey, not even out in EOI yet so we are a long way behind you! I'm already nervous, but excited haha

I need to renew my UK passport but have been reluctant to do so due to the long delays in the post and the possibility it might go astray.  I got the photos done just before lockdown.

You are probably very wise! I sent my soon-to - expire passport back to the UK on April 6th. It took four weeks or so to get there because they emailed me when it arrived. Since then, one email saying to expect delays. It officially expires next week ... just as well we can’t travel anywhere!

I just got my daughters back and it took 5 weeks. I left it for 4 weeks then rang them up to tell them it was an emergency as I was emigrating soon. I then got it back within the week.

Hmm Yes, If travel restrictions are lifted I may ring and tell them I need to come back to the UK urgently!  What annoys me is that we have to wait, but they have to take the money right away.

So I’m aware that the Inland Revenue posted a letter to me on 27th March, it is now 14th May and still no sign of it.

Anyone else experiencing severe delays in receiving post from the UK?

Hubby sent a parcel to Belgium from Australia it’s been stuck in NSW for 4 weeks at the sorting office and hasn’t moved. He has sent numerous emails to Oz Post and no response. He sent it fast tracked.
‘I know items across the state seem to be taking anything from 1 week to 5 week.

Born in Burnley but lived in Ramsbottom for many years.

Didn’t know that. You aren’t a Burnley Football Club supporter are you? One of our mods is a BFC fan.

Funny one of the first friends we made here were from Tottington, they had been here for decades she actually knew my sister as they are both physiotherapists. Ramsbottom was a great place to live but very damp...........

The place we live now is similar, a touristy town in the hills, lots of restaurants, walks and pretty green for Aus With a good community spirit.  I think it helped us settle, we liked the city but it never felt like home.

If you like where you live in UK consider moving to somewhere with a similar vibe.  A lot of suburbs here are pretty dead, no life to them no where to walk to.  It is colder in the winter up here but we get 4 definite seasons which I love.  And we can (or could) always fly north for a holiday in the warmth of Queensland.   Looks like this year it will be the riverlands of SA!

@Wannabeaussieguyandgal, right now is a good time to start decluttering, even though you're right at the start of your journey.  It's much easier to do that tedious stuff early, while you're excited.   Once you've made the application and you're waiting, waiting, waiting, you can start to feel bogged down and it's harder to find the energy.  And decluttering always takes months longer than you expect.

Look at it this way - even if you don't get to Australia for whatever reason, a decluttered house means you're ready for whatever other adventure you choose.

DH sent one like that to the grandson about 3 or 4 weeks ago and it sat in the Sydney office all that time, then a couple of days ago there was a notice on the tracker that said they were going to send some mail by sea because of a lack of air couriers.  He was getting miffed at that point, then 2 days later it was in UK and the next day it was delivered to the grandson.  Ironically, a week to 10 days after DH posted his item, I posted a large letter to the same grandson and he got it the day before he got the DH's = nothing special, not tracked, just mailed!

But I did get a letter a few days ago from UK which had been posted on 27 March!!!  It's totally up the creek!

Ramsbottom has become really "hip" and we love it, lots of bars and restaurants (although we did recently get a Starbucks and that caused uproar). If we can find somewhere similar in Aus then all the better

Fortunately we're not big on having "stuff" so de cluttering shouldn't be a massive issue, but good call nonetheless!

Is it Ramsbottom where there was a pet shop that specialised in birds/parrots or am I thinking of somewhere else. I mean it’s probably 20 years ago now
