Visa 600

I arrived in aus on 21st November on a 3 month visa from the uk. Due to circumstances I had to extend it with a visa 600 at a cost of 345aud each. The new visa allowed us to stay until 14 April when we were due to return to uk . However our flight has been cancelled due to the conovirus . We have been advised the we should apply for a second visa 600 at a cost of 1045 Aud each. This I feel is unfair as it is no fault of ours. Surely the government should relax the cost and extend the visa for another 2 months.

your input would be helpful

thanks

You have had plenty of opportunities to return to the UK over the last few weeks.  I know of several that have cut their trips short and returned,  two landed only 5 days ago.  You say it’s no fault of yours but it’s certainly no fault of the government. They they been advising people to leave, as have the UK government.  Sorry but it seems the reason you’re still there is because you’ve chosen to stay.  On that basis I don’t think Australia should have to hand out freebies.

It is difficult but hardly surprising. Personally I wouldn’t have cut it so fine. As the flight has been cancelled have you asked what else they can offer. I would aim to get a flight before your visa runs out. They will get more and more expensive anyway. Many are far from full. Will most likely work out cheaper than two visas plus air fares.

Not asking for freebies. We were only advised on 28th March that our flight was cancelled. Thanks for your input.

If you have been unable to secure another flight since yours was cancelled it may be wise to contact the embassy.  The UK government is working very hard at trying to bring back any citizen that is stuck abroad.  I think you’d need to have exhausted all options first though and I’m sure there are still some flights back.

You stated surely the government should ‘relax the cost’  that is suggesting they don’t charge you which would be a freebie.

The U.K. Government has extended visa's that are or have expired between January to May 31st to May 31st at no cost why can't the Australia government do the same .this will give time to organise a return trip. We have also received our 143 visa but have to be out the country in order for it to be finalised

Have you spoke with a good agent?  I only ask as i have read answers from Immigration can be like answers from Centrelink and change depending on who you spoke to. Also things are changing daily during this COVID crisis in relation to temp visa's etc so it may be different today, to when you spoke to someone last.

I hope you get things sorted.

So you’ve paid your 2nd instalment on your 143 and your booked flight was to leave the country in order to get the 143 issued?  I’m not sure why you didn’t mention that as responses would have been different. If that is the case then my understanding from reading what others have said is that if you hold a PR such as 143 you can enter Oz albeit you will have to be in quarantine for 14 days, as does all citizens/PR holders. If that’s right (you’d need to be sure) then surely you can still get a flight to go offshore for a few day’s and return.  You’ll be quarantined on returning but your issue is solved.  As to why the UK are not charging and Australia is....different countries do things differently, nothing we can do about that.

Have a look to see if you qualify to apply for the subclass 408 under the emergency Covid 19 provisions as this has a $0 lodgement fee.
