I was under the impression that state sponsorship is merely a moral obligation. There is no conditions on your visa saying you must live and work in the state that has nominated you. 

I think NT caught onto this pretty quickly, now you need a job offer before they will give you state sponsorship.

It is a moral obligation, however read the first post on the thread and you will see that people are now expected to live up to their promises (novel idea, but its about time!)

Some states are good at giving release letters if required - a matter of being upfront about not being able to find work and attempting but having found opportunities elsewhere. Without a release letter there can be issues with a state or NT withdraw their sponsorship.

Were previous state visa grant letters used to come with some conditions (schedule/condition 8) as there are no conditions in grant letter or VEVO?

For SC 190, I understand and agree for the moral obligation to stay within the nominated state.
However, will my efforts in employment hunting from offshore be considered IF I have to apply for the state release or do I have to stay in the nominated state physically and apply for the job to show as evidence of job applications?

Is there any minimum number of months/application required to show as a piece of evidence to get the release letter?

Your valuable thoughts on above will be highly appreciated.

i have query regarding 190 visa 

do we need to move to our sponsering state immidiately after visa grant or can we move after 3-4 months ?? is that ok ?
if we are onshore. but in different state. 
will appreciate any help

I would just like to confirm, if I am living in the State that sponsored me and I am Working from Home as my employer is from another State, would this be a case of not satisfying my Moral Obligations to the State?

South Australia Immigration (as the people who sponsored your visa) are the only ones who can release you.

Hello Everyone

Situation :

I got my 190 PR in September 2019 .My sponsoring state is ACT  . I have been working in a company as a software engineer  in ACT since Jan 2019 .

But my company has had drastic change  with respect to technology stack which has rendered me redundant . A proof of the same is that  i am the only software engineer left and micro -management has started on me . I applied for 5 companies in ACT over the last couple of months , but no luck . I reckon i have exhausted all my options in Canberra .

I do love the peace , serenity  and almost everything about  canberra and living in ACT has been more of a choice rather then obligation .
I did some really good job at work and was an important employee for the organization but now i feel really unwanted at work  and am on the company's radar to be  fired and they have implicitly indicated this to me .

 Question :

Can i look for jobs in other states in Australia ?

I have read somewhere that ACT does not give release letter any more .They just say that they will simply let home affairs know that "you have not met the obligation to stay in ACT . Although i would anyway like to settle down in canberra ,as soon as i get an opportunity here , out of my own love for this place  , what should i do as for now ?

Any suggestions , would be much appreciated.

From what you have posted you should be able to make a good case for no action to be taken if you have to leave the ACT. Keep copies of everything and take professional advice from a registered migration agent about strategy.

Canberra will have been very slow for the past couple of months but it should be starting to pick up now - give it 6 months to show really willing. You haven't got the boot yet so you've got a bit more time to try for roles in ACT

Hello Again  Everyone

Update to my previous post :
1 month after my original post , i lost my job .

I mailed to my case officer , around that time (late march), and explained to them my situation seeking  some sort of  permission to let me work in a different state until i find something in Canberra . They have not replied to that mail until this day.

Yesterday , a company based out of Sydney offered me a position and the role will be based partially out of Sydney and partially out of  Canberra requiring me to travel back and forth.

My Question  :

What do i do now ?
