newjez
I'm working my way through aldi and lidl alcohol. I don't drink much, but I do like a drink. Tried a Chardonnay columbard from Australia. Drinkable, but I wouldn't choose to drink it. Bit sweet. Galereux larger is very Stella like. Bit nicer actually. There is a smooth bitter from aldi which is nice, bit like John Smith's. Anyone found anything decent from these shops. To cut my search down? akiralx
I believe an Aldi gin won some blind tasting test - and their equivalent of Baileys is good, not that I drink it....
rammygirl
Go for the Spanish and Italian reds at Aldi. I do find their Aus wines very average but they do a cracking Rioja and Chiantis as does Lidl. Pity they can't sell booze here in SA. I had a lidl bourbon which was top notch. Won some competition, but can't remember the name.

ScottieGirl
Aldi do a nice chardy from Tumburumba but I doubt it gets as far as Blighty - the Aussies drink it all.
newjez
Syrah Grenache rose. Not a bad drop. Fresh and fruity. On sale for £2.99 a bottle. Probably want to put a few away for summer.
Slean Wolfhead
Aldi do a nice chardy from Tumburumba but I doubt it gets as far as Blighty - the Aussies drink it all. My mum tries the ALDI Aussie wine in the UK, but it's hard to find out it's provenance with masked names and various mixes. She sent me some names to google and i couldn't find them, so they're constructed names for Aldi. Basically, exported tanks filled with wine and then bottled in the UK and branded. You may get some good stuff at a cheap price, where a good winery wants to protect their usual pricing behind a cheap supermarket brand, or you might get the real cheap stuff mixed in that wouldn't make the grade at home. Melbpom
Claire Creek Sparkling Moscato at $4.99 from Aldi. Great in warmer weather.
