I am heading to Townsville, got offered a permanent job and relocation package too hard to turn down as a newly qualified nurse.

That's excellent! Is this a fairly common thing for nurses? My sister is a fairly newly qualified adult nurse (coming up to 4 years) and she is keen to emigrate as well.

No not at all in recent years. Most employers wouldn't even hire me without 12 months, let alone offer me a package. I have accommodation, food and taxi's to work. I think it's slightly harder as an adult nurse (not impossible) only because they train general nurses. I am a mental health nurse and they only specialise after they are qualified as a general nurse. I think for this reason, it's slightly easier. But, tell your sister not to give up hope. I was persistent, got to know people in HR departments. The woman that referred me for the job and got me the package I had spoken to for 12 months prior to the job offer and we had built up a good rapport.

I'll have a chat to her about it then. She went to an expo a few years back in London and chatted to some reps from a hospital in WA, they were quite keen on her (obviously don't know her as well as I do!)

I suspect that she'll be planning to stay in the UK for a little while longer though as our dad has just been diagnosed as terminal.

For my job it's been a little more difficult, I've travelled over twice to speak to employers and developed a good rapport with one of them in particular, completed some work trials with them, and asked all the right questions etc. He'd been telling me that there's nothing available just yet and made no promises but introduced me as a new pilot to the other pilots one morning before quickly correcting himself! I don't want to read into that and get my hopes up too much though!

Thanks very much for that info, it's certainly food for thought.

Off to Perth as well with my husband and little twins. Hopefully early next year

We used to live there for two years and I miss this place.

Off to Perth in January! 1 GP, 1 midwife and a baby! Anyone else coming to Perth? (North of the river!)

Congratulations!

Cheers! I took your advice and tried phoning Brisbane at 0800h BST today. The office was already closed though, so I'm a bit surprised I got the grant approx 90 minutes after that.

Ah well, all's well that ends well :)

You must have done it telepathically then!! Excellent news. Well done. Now I guess the real hard work starts, to plan the move.

Indeed!

Yeah, the hard work is finding a job. Do i go out alone (easier and cheaper), or the whole family go (expensive!).

A short while ago, we came to the realisation that planning too far into the future sucks. So we may just decide "lets go next week!" haha :)

Hi guys

I lodged 189 application on 14-apr. i havent got any reponse till now and status is APPLICATION RECEIVED.

in IMMI account last updated column is showing 23-apr, what does that date imply?

is it a good idea to call immigration as there are many people got CO allocated who applied after me.
