crusader1234
hello as the title says a London family with 3 small kids, so every penny counts! we know the costs of moving will be considerate and we know there needs to be a budget of at least a £10K figure to relocate everyone over to OZ but was wondering if it was possible to apply for a migration without using specialist agencies on a skilled visa for myself as IT manager? as with 3 kids agencies can easily charge around £4000 for the work they do, not disputing their professionalism at all just that at this stage me being the sole head incoming for the past 5 years it would be good to see that £4000 go towards our new life in OZ instead? Regards and thank you for all your advice and help!
Gbye grey sky
Don't take this the wrong way but a budget of £10k is not going to get you very far once you factor in all the costs associated with getting your visa (unless your £10k budget refers to the visas only). As with employing any professional (accountant/solicitor etc etc) you can go it alone but they provide a level of reassurance for many.

Regards and thank you for all your advice and help! is your £10k budget include the cost of getting the visa? There has been a considerable increase in visa costs, and your looking at £4500 for the visa application fee alone, not including medicals or skills assessments, which would likely add at least £1500 to the cost. Many people have done the visa process without an agent, but always worth to get case reviewed to see if there will be any issues. If your case is straightforward and you do the reserch and understand each step of the process it can be done alone.
Quoll
£10k is pocket change in the migration scheme of things! I certainly wouldn't be banking on just that making a move with kids, although it might be ok for a single adult
youngfreewild
Hi there Just thought I would add to this thread as I didn't want you to be left feeling unhopeful about your dream! We are a family with 2 young children and in the process of applying, we will be arriving in Oz with around that figure to set ourselves up and despite what others say I fully believe it can be done. If your £10k includes all the visa fees etc. then I would say no that is not enough! Our visa + skills assessment + medicals + pcc + IELTS comes to £4900. We were originally going to use an agent but opted out, as from all the research I did I realised our case was quite straightforward and we could do it ourselves. I'd definitely recommend contacting a couple of agents though to begin with to get as much 'free' advice as you can :-) hello as the title says a London family with 3 small kids, so every penny counts! we know the costs of moving will be considerate and we know there needs to be a budget of at least a £10K figure to relocate everyone over to OZ but was wondering if it was possible to apply for a migration without using specialist agencies on a skilled visa for myself as IT manager? as with 3 kids agencies can easily charge around £4000 for the work they do, not disputing their professionalism at all just that at this stage me being the sole head incoming for the past 5 years it would be good to see that £4000 go towards our new life in OZ instead? MaggieMay24
I think the OP meant the £10k is for the flights (to relocate everyone). Using an agent can absolutely be worth it if your situation isn't very straight forward, if you aren't comfortable/confident doing the level of research, paperwork, etc. required, etc.
Beddy
my advice is to go with a reputable migrant agent rather than going it alone .the financial outlay provides you with ongoing support and advice throughout a difficult procedure which in our experience kept on changing .it ensures you have everything in order for your application and provides you with the best possible outcome for your visa application ..for us it was money well spent and although it came out of the funds we originally set aside to settle us in Australia it meant we got our skills select visa and are now enjoying our 3rd year out in Oz
wrussell
As approximate amounts, you could expect the professional fee for detailed consultation to be in the order of 1% of the total budget and perhaps 20% for full management of the case. At least have a preliminary assessment conducted by a registered migration agent.

Alan Collett
Yes, maybe discuss strategy and costs with a few reputable migration agents. Some will allow you to spread the agent fees over instalments, which can help with the budgeting/cash flow management of the process. Best regards.
