I guess we are just cyber anarchists then if you feel such.

I do attempt to be an individual and see the big picture. Worth the effort and encourage you as well to think for yourself.

Erm really? That has to be the most hilarious comment yet! You believe you see the big picture and yet place people in boxes between the 'left' and 'right' political and social views…when in today's environment, situations and issues are a lot more complex. The first thing you don't do as some who believes they see the big picture is to made assumptions and create hearsay. Then again, I suppose that is a predictable comment from someone who is an ISIS apologist.

I don't think he was an apologist, he was simply high lighting the factors which have contributed to the strengthening of revolutionary fervour in the arab world most of it associated with the imperialistic actions of the west and the continuing support of Israel, despite all of their racist actions, by the west.

Vile is your word. Not mine. You may yet become a little more philosophical into newspaper content as your study progresses.

That is very kind of you to say so, although I do not know what you mean? If I read negative newspaper reports about a particular country, then that certainly affects my desire to go there, e.g. Indonesia, so why would not the same thing happen with Australia?

Tune out of politics. Leave that boring stuff to us politicians. Concern yourself with what really matters, being the fortunes of your footy team, just how you will be able to afford to world beating overinflated housing, taking care not to fall of the ever increasing speed induced roundabout of fiscal insecurity, work insecurity and don't bother yourselves about retirement and pensions as you'll unlikely to arrive at one and as such not need the other. Your government has your interests at heart.......just not always apparent.

Thanks for your concern Flag. Don't worry too much though, I've already got my transition to retirement super fund sorted, I'd love to get a redundancy package as I've been at the same place for 23 years and if I don't then I won't have to worry about finding another job. Redundancy and part time would do me just fine. If it wasn't for work I could have an even better time here..

You're right about the footy team though. It's looking like a long hard season for West Coast.

I don't worry about housing costs as we are very happy where we live and have no intention of moving. It's all good.

All of this discussion is going to be pointless soon, oz businesses are going to be demanding cheap labour the way the oz economy is heading, iron ore prices at the lowest for 10 years and the bank about to cut interest rates even further.

Businesses are going to be begging the govt to release the refugees to break the stranglehold of the unions just like they have used cheap labour from eastern europe to break the unions here, there hasn't been a big strike here in the 15 months we've been back and students are as docile as lambs for fear of a note on their records.

Oz is about to face the consequences of squandering millions on keeping perfectly employable people in squalor, another few months and the figures simply won't stack up for this or any other govt, there will be a lot of weasel words but there will be a reversal in policy and i would put good money on it being shortly after the next election, watch out for lots of promises about no increases in income tax, first after the election there will be an increase in sales tax and then the weasel words will start about a reversal on the refugee policy and how all those nasty people at the UN are making us take them in and give them jobs .

Any takers, any body willing to give odds and start a book.

You see that as a good thing? This thread is mostly about how bad it is here, compared to the UK then our freedoms are a lot better. I hope you are wrong and we never get bad enough for "refugees" to be released just so very well off businesses can break the unions, strikes don't happen and wages plummet. That sounds more like a dictatorship than a democracy.

I guess your comment about "keeping perfectly employable people in squalor" is aimed at the Aborigines? There is more money thrown at them than any other part of society. They get people paid for by the tax payer to get their kids to school and try and keep them there by giving them breakfast, letting them play footy all day if they want, whilst the rest of the country would be fined for not sending their kids.

They have companies bending over backwards to employ any Aborigine or Torres Strait Islander that puts their hand up, no matter how unqualified they might be. If they couldn't find a job when unemployment was just about zero then it was because they didn't want one.

Yes really. You are brought to hilarity with a degree of ease. I can only imagine it to be a way around subject matter unfamiliar with. The situation in the political frame of things is little removed from previous times although some would like to believe history commenced in 2000.

The concept once believed by some hopeful that old divides like left and right and isms had dissolved after the fall of Communism was short lived and well and truly disproven.

You may need to research your own predictability and get a firmer grasp on world affairs before making such outrageous statements.

Those seeking asylum breaking the unions? Really now the present over subscribed immigration policy along with 457's and students and backpackers changing their status is far more in line with challenging unions.

I'm all right Jack? I must watch that again. What is its theme and does it apply to OZ?

I heard the token fascist on the Q and A panel last night explain that if would be asylum seekers thought that those with children would automatically be sent into the community it would only encourage them to pay people smugglers and risk the voyage. Total Nazi rubbish of course. She also had the hide to say that there were no kids in detention under the Howard govt and it was Rudd's fault for changing our policies. More Nazi rubbish. I'm surprised the lady from The Guardian on the panel did not shout her down every time she opened her racist mouth. She said it was the only way to deal with Nazis and racists which is why she supported violence against Reclaim Australia.

Was listening to Tom Elliott on 3AW talking about the violent socialist left causing trouble at the Reclaim Australia rally.

They have caused a lot of trouble.

People should be allowed their free speech in Australia without violent confrontation from other groups.

Yep good to see the Right on the back foot again today with the release of a letter signed by doctors and workers at Manus Detention Centre, stating that the sexual abuse on women and children had been on going for many months.

Where the rising should be is for people to Reclaim Australia from the policies being imposed in recent years and demand a return to decency and accountable government. Out with fascist induced policy and business dictating policy and restore legitimate all inclusive policy without the increasing class and wealth divide being fostered on society.

Actually all went off rather mildly considering the hate the Right had hoped, if subtly now to germinate. Rather little violence from where I was standing. Although some of the potential fascist thugs by far in minority, would liked to have got stuck into the Anti Racists, who did not respond in kind. I never saw a fist shaken or disgusting verbal abuse from a single Anti Racist. Sadly can't say the same for the Reclaim Australia from no idea what brigade though.

You don't believe all the negative stuff about Manus Island do you? It's just propaganda to put would be asylum seekers off paying people smugglers to take them to OZ. It certainly would not stop me wanting to come to OZ illegally, but hey, I guess there's a lot of naive people out there, and if it puts them off coming, well all the better for the legitimate refugees who have had to wait longer.

Yes, Israel, despite its unique racism, compared to its wonderfully liberal neighbours, is still the only democracy in The Middle East, which might explain the continuing support of the West.

Yes, that democratic country based on throwing off its original inhabitants of a few thousand years to establish itself by terroism aided and abetted by American and English jews who continue to support and demand the support of their respective governments under threat of them withdrawing their financial support from them.

This beacon of idealistic democracy which carries out collective punishments of the arab populace, which demolishes the houses of families where members are deemed to have been involved in terroist activities such as street protests, which arbitarily withholds power supplies from the arab areas, refuses to pay monies over to the arab townships, and blockades essential supplies to the arabs, and also detains without notification large numbers of children in adult prisons, is that the burning bright democracy that you are talking about, the one that allows it's zealot settlers to run around with Uzi machine pistols ripping out arab olive trees so they can build their settlements on it it in defiance of all international agreements is that the democracy you're referring to.

I not only believe it I know it to be true. Further more staff are heavily censored . To treat the matter of sexual abuse of minors even if the ill treatment of adults does nothing to stimulate your better more humane side perhaps you need some searching inwardly into the person you have become?

If you go back in history, I guess the Jews were there right from the beginning, and there are about a million Arabs living in Israel with full citizenship and voting rights, and of course, gay men and women from all over The Middle East seek refuge in Israel. Yes, it's true that Israel does bad things too, but, hey, it's The Middle East, what do you expect. They are the best of a bad bunch, and of course, the most efficient of a bad bunch, considering there are only about six million of them.

It's a lot more complicated than that….

Pray do enlighten me, what would we brits be doing if Saudi Arabia had invaded here, then France and then Germany and then seemingly fomented revolution in a number of other christian countries.

And to boot had operated a brutal regime picking people up and torturing them, I think we might be just a little p**sed and have taken to revenge tactics by now, not to mention feeling a little over it having been invaded by a country we assumed to be an ally.

No flags burnt from where I stood. I suppose if one side can wave them and shout about vague concepts of freedom including fascist potential thugs then the odd extremist from the other side may just as likely burn a flag. Don't condone it but I suppose it all comes under the banner of freedom you condone with regularity. Or that could only be selected freedom? As seen from the Far Right vision of things.

No it wasn't the aborigines it was about refugees, but i seem to have trodden on a very tender corn just by allusion, is that another problem that troubles australia.

I'm afraid the historical context and ground reality are somewhat elusive to that particular poster.

That's ok then we'll just excuse them and close our eyes and pretend that all the troubles across the arab world have not grown out of that one act of allowing the zionists to take over another peoples land by force.

Two wrongs never make a right..

Well, if Saudi Arabia was a democracy, and Britain, France and Germany were all under the boot of brutal dictatorships, I might well feel grateful.
