millers
Hi there We have been in a rental house for 16 months and are moving out soon. In our sons bedroom the wooden blinds got wet one day when I was out at work and the window was left open and the rain came in through the flyscreen and wet the blinds....I wiped them but now they are stained and are peeling and don't look good.......im not sure where we stand with the real estate when she does her exit inspection........is it classed as wear and tear ???? or will she make us replace them ???? anyone had a similar experience? and what was your outcome?? im going to call the RTA tomorrow but just wondered if anyone can advise me.:arghh: Thanks in advance
calNgary
If they were in good condition when you moved ,theoretically you should replace them if they are quite badly damaged. I think some people would wait to see if the agent picks up on them first though, lol. Cal x

AJ
Sorry, i wouldnt call it wear and tear, you left the window open so I would think you would have to replace them
northernbird
I agree, certainly if I was a landlord I would make you replace them or take the money out of your bond.
Que Sera Sera
Yes I agree its unfortunate but it would be classed as accidental damage therefore your responsibility. If you have contents insurance that may cover it but f you left a window open I'm not sure.
Que Sera Sera
I've just seen on another post that you have properties yourself in the UK that you rent out so I'd have thought you'd have a better idea than most of us tbh.

The cheapest way out of it for you, if you know your way round a few tools, is to buy a new identical blind and replace it yourself. BB

Johnny Kash
as a landlord myself Id be pretty hacked off that the agency I had employed hadn't picked up on this. Surprising as in my experience things are very much weighted in favour of landlords here in Oz.
Chortlepuss
Amazed, from my experience agents rob you blind here for any old reason including wear & tear. You got very lucky!
