Paul1Perth
Don't know either place at all so couldn't possibly comment on whether the price is right. I'm sure I could go wading through lots of houses and find something that looks good value and not in either country. In the meantime I am very happy in Perth, thank's all the same. I live in the suburb next to the Melbourne one and spent the last 3x weeks doing my evening run past the TX one. Not being sarcy at all but glad you are happy dude, my point is that the economy is far*ed :-) and this is one of the best examples to illustrate the point. As the far brainier people on here than me have highlighted loads of times, land pricing (aka dwelling and commerical pricing) at these levels is gonna pound the buggery out of the economy.... surfndirt
What's the argument? Melb house prices (and thus the wider economy) are far*ed :-) No biggy, just an observation....... As you were

paisleylass
Christ, I'd assumed that would be somewhere in the wilds of Texas but when I looked it's right outside of Dallas! Apart from the disparity of the 'true' value of Aus vs US $, it seems you can get much much more for your money just outside of one of the biggest cities in the US. That pool! Nice. Paul1Perth
Just shows how stupid this thread is. The above is a bit like the fibro shack (could be asbestos for all I know) a bit like VS describes for sale in WA. Price is $559,900, location is [h=1]5606 E Wardlow Rd Long Beach, CA 90808 [/h] (South of Conant) Just depends where you pick doesn't it. I can't use that to say the whole American economy is far*ed, although America has already been through some really tough times, a lot worse than here. That's why people are leaving California en masse. Again, I didn't just pick a random place - believe me or don't but I was literally running past the joint about 2/ 3 weeks ago. Why is it so hard to accept that the current situation over here is causing problems? I love it here, dirt bikes on a weekend, surfing etc etc but I am also a realist and it really does take blind freddy to think there isn't a pretty big correction coming..... VERYSTORMY
How about these little gems. This is the same sort of price range. So (from what you've posted) thanks to employer sponsorship it cost you nothing to get to Australia and it will cost you nothing to leave Australia, yet still you moan on. Or do these posts help make you feel like you've made the right decision?
MicheleW
Yep, house prices definitely cheaper in Texas. Thing is, my OH can earn a starting salary of $85,000 here in Aus. In the US she was on less than $48,000 with massive medical costs on top of that, and that is for the same job. I am not at all adverse of moving to the US, and now thanks to the striking down of DOMA we can, however my OH will not consider it with the costs of healthcare. Given she has had a transplant, our healthcare cost would be stupidly expensive. In this context, living in Australia is very cheap for us. Take for instance a builder here in the UK, or any Tradie really, a lot of Traidies have seen their income reduce dramatically here in the UK and just say they earn about £23k which is about $35,000 Oz dollars. Tradies in Oz can earn up to $70,000 which is double. It doesn't mean they will easily get a job in Oz, but any Tradies currently struggling in the UK and there's a lot of them, Australia will look really appealing to them. Silus
Stop whinging!!! Australia (Perth in particular) is worth every inflated dollar to live here. It is all about quality of life - surely!!!!! Please go to where you can buy a cheap house - enjoy. Australia needs positive people who realise that like all economies there are blips. But, (as an ex Brit) I wouldn't swap my life here in Perth for a cheap house anywhere.
