Yes I think its similar and they do alot of hospital in the home type of thing but evening and shifts in some companies and most are private companies. Depending on your wife's experience and grade clinical nurse is higher paid more like the uk sister and registered nurse is your average staff nurse level (pays abit less). Iv niticed more jobs north qld if thats where your looking. I have been told on here there has been job cuts for nurses by qld health so jobs with them for community are scarce and competition high I think. Hope that helps. Its all just from my own research.

Hi, im applying for community nurse jobs left, right and centre in brisbane, gold coast and sunshine coast as im arriving in brisbane in 8 weeks but im hearing nothing in reply? Is it very difficult to get nursing jobs in these areas as i've never had problems before in the uk? I have an interview as a community nurse in Mackay which is alot further north than we planned to be so my resume cant be terrible? Im just wondering if im bein impatient as its getting closer or is it genuinely harder to get jobs around Brisbane. Any input would be appreciated x

Hi. I'm not in Qld but before arriving in Oz I found it very difficult to get an interview. Since being here I have been offered interviews for every job I've applied for & had job offers. It might just be that they are a bit nervous of employing directly from overseas. Good luck. We're about to move interstate as the job I came over to was not what I was told it would be.

Hi guys, I've just joined the forum to find out information on job opportunities in brisbane for the duchess, a newly qualified children's nurse and myself a plasterer of 8 years. Is work in abundance here? Also could we have some info on what brisbanes like as a city for lifestyle? We've read books but people's opinion who live there already is the best you can have! I play rugby and the missus is part of the rowing club back here in Bristol so we're quite outgoing! Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks Joe and Carrie

What kind of visa would you be after?

Hi! New to this site so sorry if I ask questions that have been answered! I am a qualified nurse but only with the diploma level. Does anyone know how easy it is to top up to the degree when you are in oz? I want to get out of the UK ASAP. I have already done 40 credits towards my degree but won't get it completed before I go out!

Any advice would be great on the matter!

Thanks!

Hi there, don't know if I can help I have been researching emigrating to Oz for 4 years now so know a bit about it. There is a facebook group called 'Diploma nurses wanting AHPRA registration' or something like that, I suggest you ask to join its very useful. The fact that you already have another 40 credits towards topping your diploma up and in most cases only need 60 credits in total to complete you would be foolish not to complete before you went! Plus it depends I believe on what modules you have already done as sometimes AHPRA will only accept a pathway as top up, but not always the case. I believe to do a bridging course in Oz takes around 3 months and costs around $12,000 so would be far cheaper to top up in the UK. Depending on what visa you require it can take a while to emigrate, why the rush to leave the UK? Hope this has been helpful

Hi everyone, I am looking to go the opposite way to all of you, my husband is a Scot and is wanting to head to Glasgow, I am. Degree qualifies registered nurse, specialising in perioperative scrub/scout, I have a post graduate certificate and am wondering what the work situation is like over there? From looking at the UK website it looks like after a fair bit of rigmarole I will be able to register, any insight at all? Are we crazy?

Hi All of you fabulous nurses (and nurse's partners), my name is Carolann, married to Gerry with two kids, Keira, 17 and Zach, 9. I work in A&E, which apart from a couple of yrs in ITU, has been my background. Currently SCN but just want to leave the 24/7 responsibility behind and just focus on quality of life/work balance. I love my job but nursing in the UK ain't what it used to be, as I'm sure you'll all agree. Anyway, I'm loving this thread and can't wait to hear everyone's sories. For me, I'm quite a spontaneous person and Gerry has been on at me to emigrate to Oz for the past 10 yrs. I dug my heels cos I loved my job here in Bonny Scotland, loved my house and my friends. Something changed last November, where a light came on and I now know how my two friends (who emigrated 4yrs ago) felt. Obsessed!! And determined. Only problem? I'll be 45 on the 15th August. So no pressure trying to lodge my visa before my 45th birthday as i'll lose the 15 points I need. More pressure? Sold my beautiful house. All eggs in this basket. I expect my skills assessment to be complete in the next week or two then need to put in my EOI. Luckily we have great agents in Qld working hard to make our dream happen. Planning to live in Melbourne. Does anyone have experience of timelines for invitations from EOI state sponsorship from Victoria. Not too worried about how long the visa takes, just as long as it's lodged before my birthday. Phew! X. Ps any info on applying to Ahpra would be appreciated x

Hi @Loulou2310 I too am completing th degree top up through the University of Chester and can be done via e-learning so ideal if you plan to do this from abroad too. It's £500 per module I think but well cheaper than the bridging programme and doesn't even offer any qualifications. I know of some others that have done this through the Open University and actually been registered with AHPRA so no different than class room based qualifications.

If I was you, i'd register to do the top up through an NHS trust if you're with one and if not, complete it before you go over purely fo financial reasons.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Hi Loulou2310,

You'll need about $20k up front, but you can do it here. You'll need to secure a placement at a designated hospital who will take you after you receive a letter from AHPRA that you can do this bridging course. We found it more stress free for the mrs to go back to the UK and to complete with Derbyshire online university. Short term sacrifice for long term gains.

Looking for some advice, filling in the Ahpra application form but heard that ANMAC can provide them with the documentation to save me going through the whole process of getting them certified etc. There is no part in the application form that states this. Did anyone else get anmac to follow on the documents when they were finished? TIA

HI there guys. I have a question.

I worked 1 yr in a hospital in my home country, however when I applied to work in other country I extended my work experience to 3 yrs just to qualify me for the position. Now I am working for 2 yrs abroad now and ongoing now my question is, in applying for Ahpra and migration in the fuure, is it best to just use my original work experience of 1 yr from my home country? Should I be concerned that I used 3 yrs of work experience abroad in filing my application in australia?

Hi Milly, I registered for the degree top up pathway and had the university send me the online modules available for the top up. It's a really easy process and a module can be done in about 2 weeks if you really push it but can't register for more than 3 at a time. Mine has taken 10 months from start to finish.

If you ring the university and ask for Maureen Benbow, she's the woman in the know.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Hi

It is not normal. If the potential employer did give a response and did not even confirm your lack of success I personally would not want to work for them!

I think that it is always worth following up with a further contact once application has been made. Personally, I preferred to 'phone and discuss the position with the NUM. This offers you real insight into your your potential supervisor, and the attitude of the local organization.

Hello all,

quick question from a newbee on the forum and a nursing career and Oz immigrant hopeful. I am studying to qualify as a nurse in the UK and move to Oz about a year after I register. What advice would you give to someone in my position: spend a few years in the NHS and try to get a speciality qualification here, or move to Oz at the first opportunity and qualify/train further over there? Do employers think differently of UK or Oz post-reg qualifications? Are you happy with your career progression (as a nurse)? Is there support from hospitals to do further training? Thank you very much for your thoughts! PS: Great forum, great thread!

First, to get registration in Australia you must have a degree. If the course you're doing does not graduate at Bachelor's, get that first. If it does I would suggest applying as soon as you qualify (all other aspects of visa requirements being met of course). Then continue to accrue relevant experience whilst visa is processed.

Post graduate qualifications would need to be at post graduate tertiary level (grad dip or Masters) to be seen as relevant. If you intend to pursue post grad studies, make sure that it in an area in which Australian nurses function.

Hi all,

I have been looking into getting a top up degree. I currently have enough credits at level 5 to say I have a diploma.

Does anybody know if I need to do a specific 'top up degree' or can I just do 3 x 20 credit level 6 modules through my current employer and these be classed as sufficient. I would rather get as much funded as I can.

I have 22 years experience.

Thanks in advance

Milly

Hi Jac2011,

Congratulations on your move to Townsville! What area of nursing are you in, and how much experience did you have once you applied for your nursing post? Did you go on a certain website to find jobs? Sorry about all the questions, I'm just so worried that if I choose a specific area of nursing to focus on, such as community/district nursing whether this is in demand. As I have been pondering whether to go into either the aforementioned area or theatre?

Thanks

Hey andrea,

I work as a community nurse and the demand is increasing in qld however there usually private nit for profit companies. If your interested google blue care, silverchain, ozcare, to name but a few. If you look on indeed and those typesvof job search engines and type in community nursing alot of jobs come up. Just be persistent! Hope that helps.[emoji4]
