bigbadcon
What is the outcome if you fail the rule? Does it mean you get taxed as a normal employee and not at the lower tax rates that contractors avail of? According to the cxc website using them might get you around this rule if I understand it correctly. From the faq on their website... Q.*If I use CXC Global’s services, does the Alienation of Personal Services or the ‘80/20’ rules affect me, and how can I be sure? A. CXC Global’s salary packaging service and structure is compliant with the Alienation of Personal Services Income Bill 2000 (APSI), the so-called ‘80/20’ rules in Australia. Since 2000, the ATO has been targeting Independent Contractors using their own Pty Ltd Structures.* CXC Global has received from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) a personal services business determination (PSBD) which ensures our business structure is legal and complies with the APSI legislation. CXC Global provides independent contractors with the safety and security of being compliant with the ‘80/20’ measures.*

30secondstosam
Hey guys - I'm in Web Development with over 5 years of professional experience. I'm a primarily a back-end LAMP developer - however I am also a strong front-end HTML/CSS/JS/AJAX developer too. I'm currently looking to see if I can go over on a 457. I have 1 contact over there in IT who may be able to help. However, I am also trying to look myself for opportunities. Does anyone know where to look? Thanks
vrat
Hi Everyone, I am a 27 year old Systems Developer/Analyst working for a medium size distribution company in the United Kingdom. I work in the IT Department developing software to make company processes for efficient. One of my major achievements would be implementing a Stock Warehouse system using an barcode scanning application I developed using VB.NET compact framework and SQL Mobile. I also developed various systems for Quotations, Document Management, Commissioning and Maintenance. I also provide user support, writing documentation, bug fixing etc. Although I used VB.NET to develop the warehouse application all other development are done through RAD software called Servoy and Filemaker. Although I don't develop in .NET I have done in the past and .NET was what got me in to programming. I have a 2.1 degree in Electronics and Software Engineering at a good British University and received an award for the best final year project. I am looking to move to Australia next year. I have managed to get my Permanent Residency in Australia and am quite sceptical about what I will face when I start job hunting there. Since graduating, I have worked at my current job for almost 7 years and have not had any other IT related job. I am not sure if this would be seen as a good thing or a bad thing. I believe Filemaker and Servoy are not widely used in Australia as a development tool. I am closely involved in analysing problems and providing solutions for them. Maybe that's something I should focus on; System Analysis, as my experience with .NET is not very much. Another option would be a Junior Project Management role or even a Junior .NET Developer role. I thought you might be able to help and direct me in the right direction as you understand the Australian Job market and its requirements. I am very excited about moving to australia and settling down but the thought of getting a job there bothers me quite a lot. The lack of demand for my immediate skills are mainly to blame but, am determined to make this work. Thank you in advance. Any feedback is appreciated. P.S. I have also enrolled in an ITIL Foundation exam to improve my chances when job hunting.
mw291073
What's the current state with IT jobs in Sydney? Have things picked up since the Christmas lull? I'm looking to move in April
Bromney
I would say no. I'm a PM and have been looking for a few weeks now. Granted it has been the summer holidays but so far I'm not getting much of a response from the agents let alone landing an interview. I'm told things will pick up in February but will have to wait and see.

More down south (Sydney, Melbourne) but cost of living more

Paul1Perth
Just wanted to chime in here, as I seem to be in a similar situation. I already have a permanent resident visa and plan to come to Australia beginning of next year, when my current contract runs out. I do Java and Enterprise Integration so I'll be looking at the banks for a project. Maybe I'll also look at startups, wouldn't mind working in a more dynamic environment for a while. The market here in Germany is fairly strong though, so leaving a good market for uncertainty is a bit of a leap. But I guess as a contractor you should be used to a bit of risk and uncertainty. What I'd love to here is from the people that already made the transfer to Australia, as an IT contractor. How hard it was to find that first project and major differences between the markets, if any. I'd start sending your resume round a few agencies and see what they come up with. They might find you a job quickly.

cyberm
I'd start sending your resume round a few agencies and see what they come up with. They might find you a job quickly. Already found a job. I will say that this came from a company that I have known for quite a while. Otherwise I reckon that it might not have been that easy. squarepusher
Hi, Well I have finally received my PR 100 visa in February , so now i need to find a job. I'm a hands-on contract .Net Team Lead with 20 years experience. My recent gig highlights include Hiscox Insurance, EMI, ASOS, Dollar financial, LLoyds of London, SwiftCover and Money Supermarket. I've also done a lot of work with consultancies such as ThoughtWorks and RadTag. I specialise in agile transformation, team mentoring, TDD, BDD and continuous build & delivery (Teamcity, cruise control, Msbuild). My technology of choice is C# with ASP.NET MVC but i'm extremely flexible and have worked with most major technologies. Any recommendations for agencies in the Sydney area would be greatly appreciated , especially those working in Insurance , Finance or with BIG retail clients. ycha165
Market has been pretty quiet over Dec/Jan but is slowly picking up now. Pay for permanent role here is similar to what I got back in London.
mrpnbe
Hi, I'm an experience IT PM (SDLC, Agile, RBPM) mostly working in the finance sector. We have our Visas and are ready to go. Looking to move to Melbourne towards the end of the year and just wanted to see what the job market is like there at the moment in this line of work? Also, we will be over in May to activate Visas, so has anyone got any decent contacts for recruitment agencies in Melbourne etc. Thanks
sau
Hi everyone, I am a recent migrate (an Asian), with spouse visa. I had to move to AUS with my husband after he got PR. I have 5+ years’ experience in IT as a process analyst and a project coordinator. Also possess PMP certification. It’s been more than 6 months here and I have tried for PMP related jobs. Just to be in the safe side and to start from somewhere, I have also tried for office assistance jobs as well… Sometimes my visa matters for the recruiters (although there are no working restrictions) and sometimes it is the concern that I don’t have Aus experience or the exact experience with the specific job title … like an ‘office administrator’. But I am confident that I am capable of performing the job well with my experience. … So there is no luck yet. Sometimes it’s devastating and frustrating but I am still continuing applying for the jobs. Any advice or help on the job hunting would be really appreciated…
