  1. If you want to claim points for experience then I believe it speeds up the process. I think that what happens is when they check your points they might refer to AITSL to check your experience qualifies. When I did mine a year ago there was an option for the employment statement on the last page of the form and you had to send references away with your qualifications and extra fee. It has maybe changed since then as you’re talking about scanning and I had to send everything out snail mail!
  2. AITSL will soon let you know if they need anything else. I think as long as it has the right information and is letter headed it wil be ok. Good Luck!
  3. When you send away all your certificates and references from the schools you have worked in you will get a positive skills assessment verification (provided you meet the requirements) if you pay extra they will also send you a letter confirming any post qualification experience over 20 hours a week. I had references from all my headteachers stating: job title age range hours per week salary/scale period of service job description If you need extra points for superior English then you will need to have completed your test and have the results too. both of these need to be completed BEFORE submitting your eoi
  4. That’s reassuring!! Thank you! On the website it says up to 12 weeks!
  5. Yes, I had my skills assessment done last year. They have acknowledged 7 years employment post qualification. (Some of my part time hours since having kids is less than 20 per week so doesn’t count - very frustrating since some years it was 19 ) I also note that you have to register with Queensland teacher registry which takes up to 12 weeks. I assume I must do this first before submitting an EOI! I can imagine Queensland will be closing again so I have probably missed the boat- again!!!!
  6. Good morning, one of the conditions for teachers is 5 years work experience for 190 and 3 years for 491. Many of the new conditions for different Jobs state ‘post qualification’ but teachers just say 3 or 5 years experience, so my question is Does my experience from 2005-2012 count?? Or is it the same as somewhere like Victoria where is has to be 2 years with in the last couple of years?
  7. One of the conditions is under 45 I believe
  8. We put in our eoi 190 for VIC mid sept and nothing yet either. I feel like there’s not a lot happening just now while they wait for the changes to take place on Saturday... would be interested to hear if anyone had been invited to VIC during the last couple of months too. Waiting is torture!!
  9. 5 points for 190 10 points for 489 and isn’t this changing for 491? I’m sure I read somewhere 15 but maybe I’m making that up? My Partner tried the ielts a couple of times and kept being 0.5 away from getting 8s across the board and then he tried the PTE - still no joy but he just did it again and now has his 20 points!! If you want something badly enough you have to keep trying!! He was studying every night!! It is harder but the marking is much fairer. The ielts is a ridiculous test! A lapse in concentration in the listening and miss a couple of questions and you miss out on an 8! Are you both on the occupation list? That could be a way of getting another 5 points with the new points structure. Don't give up! Where there’s a will there’s a way!! Most of the time anyway!! Good luck
  10. I thought secondary teachers could no longer apply for 190 NSW? Well not from offshore as they have put conditions on now that you have to have worked in Australia for 2 years? Maybe I’m wrong...
  11. You will need your degree certificates, transcripts of your courses and evidence, in the form of a letter, from the university that you completed 45 days supervised teaching in a primary school age 5-12 year olds. I had to get transcripts printed out but I can’t remember exact cost. Don’t think it broke the bank in comparison to other costs incurred!
  12. I did the IELTS but I am an English teacher and an English native so it would have been really embarrassing not to get over 8. I hear the other test - the Pearson one - can be a better one to sit in the sense that it is a fairer way to measure your English skills. I didn’t like the ielts for several reasons. The topics for the writing and speaking are both random and ridiculous and the listening wasn’t set up well. I found myself drifting off and missed a question and also the layout was confusing. I.e listen, answer one question. listen, answer one question and then listen but answer a series of questions. No repetition of the information either which, if you get distracted for a moment, means missing out several points. This easily brings your marks down under a band 8. It’s just not a great indication of your ability in English!
  13. It’s possible that if both parties have made big promises about teachers then this is just a political move and a numbers game. Maybe they will invite all teachers as soon as the election is over and that will add to their 4000 target? I can live in hope!!
  14. Wow congratulations @Burnsie !! Can I ask how many points you had and what subject you teach? No idea about when waiting time starts- I have yet to submit my documents I’m waiting for my other half to get his!!!
  15. Keep it simple, don’t go off topic, vary vocabulary and sentence structure. The topics are so bizarre. I think I got some about the influence of fashion since 1960s or something equally ridiculous! A topic I know very little about! I think for English speakers there is a tendency to waffle on so try to keep it precise and organised with a clear beginning, middle and end!! Have you considered trying the pte instead of ielts? My understanding is that in some ways it’s harder but that the marking system is more representative of your handling of the English language. Good luck!!
  16. I took the ielts test earlier this year. I have the extra 20 points I needed. Im an English teacher so found it ok. I’m still only at 60 though and even then only with partner skills points so going to try the 190 visa. I’m just waiting for my partner to get his skills assessed and then we will submit an eoi. We still have a long way to go! We will try both ways with me as primary applicant and with him....
  17. Did you get your outcome? I sent mine in September and they asked me to send an updated signed payment form (I had printed mine off pre July increase!-oops) from then it took only two weeks before I got a positive outcome. I was fully expecting to have to wait another 8-9 weeks! Hope you got the positive outcome you were hoping for!!
  18. I spoke with EA this morning so thought I would update just in case anyone is in this situation in the future... I was advised that, although the uk recognise these accredited courses as being equivalent to 3 year bachelor, Australia consider it a grey area which is why it’s so difficult to find any info! If your HNC/HND is on the accredited list but before 2001 you still need to go the CDR route but if they deem your qualifications and experience to be at engineer technologist level then you can claim 15 points for qualification.
  19. I understand that, however, there are some Scottish Engineering HNC/HND courses pre 1999 which are on the list of accredited courses with the Sydney accord which are recognised as being equivalent to a 3 year bachelor degree.
  20. Thank you for replying. The points confusion for me is that if your course is recognised by Sydney accord the this is equivalent to 3 years bachelor degree. I was hoping maybe someone who had been assessed by EA would know the answer to this. we have studied the MSA booklet on the EA site but still unsure how to go about writing a career epsode and linking to the competencies....
  21. Hi, I have some questions which I really hope someone here can answer! We have been considering emigrating for many years and have collected documents etc in preparation for several years! We have finally decided that this is the right time for us to actually go ahead but of course the points goal posts have changed. We were originally going to apply with me as a secondary teacher which seemed the more straightforward route but now I am 5 points short and no way to pick up any more so we are going to try my partner as the main applicant who is an electrical designer. His path seems much more complex. Our questions are: he has an HNC electronic and electrical engineering from 1997 which is on the accredited list for Sydney accord for an engineer technologist status (we have all the documentation and confirmation that goes along with this from Sydney accord IEng) but on the EA flowchart it suggests that if the course was completed pre Sydney accord agreement in 2001 then he has to go the CDR route? Obviously if we don’t have to write up the CDR that would be preferred but we will if that’s what it needs! Our second question is regarding qualification points. How many can he claim? The Sydney accord means that the HNC he did (because it had a project module) gives him technologist status which implies his course is equivalent to 3 year bachelor so gaining 15 points? Have we got this right? Again anyone with any experience with any idea on the rules please help!!! Lastly, Does anyone have any experience writing the CDR that could point us in the right direction of how to approach it? Time is running out for us (we are getting old!!) and the extra points would allow us to scrape 70 and a chance albeit a slim one of being invited to apply for a visa! Thank you!! S
