  1. Oh my goodness...I thought it was 5!! Thank you for making me look back at the table again. Obviously we worked out the points when first started the process, and only glanced at it quickly again last night when reviewing our options and stupidly looked at the 190 state sponsor table instead of the 489 state sponsor! Okay...more positive then. Knew some good would come out of creating this post [emoji4] * note to self: don’t look at things late at night when desperate for my bed! *
  2. Ah, thank you everyone! My partner is being really positive about it all; it’s me! I just want to have plan B lined up in case. Will definitely look into extra tutoring. Ah, didn’t know that re federal election- good to know. Will make sure I stay in the loop about everything. Liam13- my partner really struggled with Pearson when doing mock tests. There’s only one option with Pearson isn’t there? It says on the website that the PTE general isn’t recognised when comes to immigration purposes, and must do PTE academic? Whereas with IELTS there’s general training as well as academic... Or have I missed something with Pearson?!
  3. Hello Hoping for some wise words over the weekend until we speak to our agent on Monday! We started the visa process in Jan 2018. At that point we were eligible for a 189/489 visa. Now, I don’t think we are and have no clue if there are any other routes for us. My partner is a plumber (granted 15 years from VETASSESS) & has just passed the practical assessment of VETASSESS. We stand at 50 points (this is WITHOUT the English at the moment). We have IELTS booked for next month. We know he needs the full 20 points for the English which is a big ask for anyone, but he is unfortunately dyslexic. If being completely realistic, we think we’d only get 10 points for it (but never say never!) Leaving us at 60 (or 65 if 489). But by the time everything is together ready to register our interest, it will probably be too late as the points will raise to 70 at a guess in the new financial year. Are we clutching at straws?! We don’t know too much about employment sponsorship visas. Would this be an option for us? Side note: My brother in law (partner’s brother) emigrated to Perth nearly 3 years ago- not yet applied for citizenship, so don’t think he can help at all. Any info or advice of what visa to read up on would be much appreciated. [emoji4]
  4. OP, if you want to get it right first time, speak to a Migration Agent who can advise you properly instead of all this conflicting advice and opinions. Good luck with it all.
  5. Why are you talking about the 190 visa? The poster has said he cannot apply for a 190 visa, only a 189 visa. So I am talking about a 189 visa here! I can’t comment on the 190 visa as have no knowledge of that.
  6. Also, 60 points would not be enough. For plumbers, they are not accepting applicants with less than 70points (it did go up to 75) at this moment in time. It does go up and down from what I’ve seen.
  7. My mistake...it’s more than the figure I’ve written.
  8. You do need to do a skills assessment which is a practical and written exam. This assessment is also very expensive (from memory without looking at paperwork it’s around the £1,300 mark or just shy of that). Google. There’s plenty of information about it all. Have you done a points assessment test, which tells you exactly how many points you currently sit at?
  9. Thank you for both your replies. Good to read. Think that’s us decided!
  10. Hello Have you found out anything further about Geelong that would be useful to know, along with the great info given on this thread? Did you find anything about schools etc? We’re looking into Geelong, but early into that decision so haven’t gathered much research yet! [emoji4]
  11. Thank you, Alan. I spoke with Wendy this morning and will be sending over the required information later today. She said this will then be forwarded on to you. We concluded the phone line must have had a fault yesterday, as it rung out differently today to how it did yesterday! Thanks again.
  12. Thank you for your responses. My problem was the agent never being in the office when I called. Obviously a busy man which I appreciate, just frustrating! Shall try another one today.
  13. Good afternoon Can anyone recommend an agent through experience who are easy to get hold of? I desperately need to speak with someone, but one agent who I spoke to once on here is unfortunately impossible to get hold of, and I’ve just tried Go Matilda, and no one answered! Doesn’t bode well if I decide to shell out money on an agent who isn’t easily contactable! Sure some can understand my frustration! Would appreciate and contact names.
  14. New to the board-hello! We are going to be applying for 189 visa through my partner’s skill, with myself and our child added to his visa. (My profession is not on the skilled occupation list). What would be required of me to do? I know I will need to do the health & Police check, but will I be required to do the English test? My partner will be doing it to boost his points. Will it make a difference to our points if I do too? Many thanks in advance [emoji4]
