  1. You would need permission from either the courts or/and biological parents. Depends on lots of things, including how you would enable to maintain contact etc. Its not impossible by any means but you need to seek the correct and legal permissions. Depending on your daughters age her wishes may be taken into account also.
  2. Congratulations, I'm in Brisbane with 2 children, happy to help if you need advice about navigating the school system. I have uploaded our medicals etc without being asked, even though there are various threads saying not to. TBH if we don't get our visa within 12 months, updating the medicals will be the least of our worries.
  3. Sorry Mini, I think this query is best directed to ACS. There is more information here on 'RPL FAQS' on the website.
  4. Hi the website says: We will complete all applications as soon as possible, however please allow 6-8 weeks to receive a completed skills assessment result letter. In our guidelines it says applications may take up to 12 weeks. Probably worth getting in touch though. Good luck, hopefully it's just them getting through a backlog.
  5. Hi, it took the ACS about 4/5 weeks to come back but that was before the changes to the visa were introduced in July. I'm not sure what the processing time is now, if you've been waiting longer than they suggest perhaps get in touch to see what's happening? Just checked it. It says 6-12 weeks.
  6. Congratulations on both your visa and your wedding, its encouraging to see a straight forward timeline for a change!
  7. Thanks verystormy, I've got 80 points and our medicals have been cleared as have our police checks, employment history etc. so just waiting now. EOI came back within a few days and then The 190 was lodged with everything front loaded on 27th August so I guess its in the hands of the DIPB now. Fortunately my potential new employers are happy to wait..I've tried to manage their expectations with regards to timelines.
  8. Thanks MaggieMay24 - we had our medical clearance come through yesterday and that was the last thing, so as far as our application is concerned we have done all that we can. Like everyone else we are hoping for a speedy turnaround.
  9. Yes, I'm delighted ? I had convinced myself there would be something to cause delay. My eldest had an operation over 10 years ago but luckily we were able to provide the paperwork and they cleared her. Ooh it's a roller coaster.
  10. I wouldn't start to work for the new Employer without permission, I don't think they would be keen on that! What I meant to ask was, if I hand in my notice and leave (essentially become unemployed) could I then apply for the restriction to be lifted from my bridging visa in order to work? (sounds like I risk that being cancelled all together) It seems like this may be more trouble than its worth, especially as the new employer is willing to wait. I guess it's the unknown time frame for processing which is causing the issue, its also no fun to be trapped in a job which turned out to be quite different to the one I originally accepted. Some details about the team I work with were withheld prior to my arrival...and when you're here you can't leave. Thanks for taking the time to respond Raul.
  11. Hi Raul, Thank you. Yes this is clear in the terms of the 457, also the Bridging Visa re-states that the terms of my substantive visa are applicable - its more a query about what would happen if I left my current employer. I don't think the new employer will apply to be an approved sponsor as I have an application for PR in at the moment. Its mainly that I would prefer to leave where I am sooner.
  12. Hi all, I'm here on an Employer Sponsored 457 and have a current 190 PR application in. My current employer is restructuring the team I work in (I am already doing a slightly different job than the one I came over for but in the same profession). I was automatically given a bridging visa when the PR application was submitted but this has restricted work rights and only entitles me to work for my current employer. Whilst all this is going on I have been approached by a better and much more stable organisation who would like to employ me. I have explained my current situation to the new employer and they are happy to wait for my PR to be processed (I think they might be feeling over optimistic about processing times) but I wondered if I could apply to have the restrictions lifted from my bridging visa in order to change employer? I've looked into this a bit on DIPB etc. but there doesn't seem to be a way around the work restrictions if you are on an Employer Sponsored visa?
  13. Yes our police checks took just over 3 weeks to arrive from the UK - probably about the same for our Australian ones (required as we've been living here over 12 months). Medicals took about 2 hours although I think this was longer than normal because we booked in over lunch time and capacity is reduced during lunch breaks. It takes 5 days for the blood results to come back so at least another week will pass before any progress can be made after your medicals.
  14. Hi - we just got back from our medicals. We've been referred as my eldest dependent had an operation (more than 10 years ago) when she was very young. I am concerned that this may cause a delay but there's nothing I can do, we are what we are. I did note that he was pleased we had disclosed this in advance and that we had brought along the paperwork. Even though I completely understand the reasons why there needs to be an element of 'behind the scenes' processing, I find the lack of transparency about wait times very difficult. I can't imagine that all these people chasing their visas (because they don't know what is going on) does anything but cause further delays whilst they are responding to requests for updates. The doctor wouldn't tell us whether we were otherwise to be considered fine. Quite exhausting.
  15. Hi everyone, My family and I are attending for our medicals tomorrow. Our police certificates finally arrived from the UK this week, so the medicals are the last thing to go on! We've had no contact yet from a case officer yet however, we did receive the automated email on Tuesday to say that our EOI was now suspended due to an active visa application so at least our application is in a system somewhere....
  16. I've a way to go - date of full application was only about 6 weeks ago but we loaded absolutely everything and I'm hopeful (as is everyone I guess) that our onshore status and 80 points with a job we've been told by DIPB is 'near the top of the priority list' will help us avoid any potential delays. Its difficult when you see on the trackers people getting their grant within a few days. I am really struggling at work so obsessing about the visa is probably not a healthy distraction when I know that a time frame within 6 months is realistic. I have looked into what might happen if I quit - its becoming tempting... but it would seriously put our house buying plans back if I did so trying to take one for the family team at the moment :-/ Thanks though, I bet the bubbles tasted extra good!
  17. Hi I'm in the same boat, applied onshore for a 190 although still awaiting assignment of CO but here currently on a 457 - I have a new job offer which I'm really keen to take as the job I have now is not what I expected (the employer withheld some information about the role to make it more appealing and now I'm trapped). I work in an industry where everyone knows everyone else so I'm trying to keep my head down and do a good job but it is hard when I feel so desperate to leave. Reading about your case has helped me to focus on how it will feel when the visa comes through! Congratulations :-)
  18. In my experience the visa costs are a small fraction of what it has actually cost in order to get established in Australia and the cost of living is high by comparison to many countries. My family and I came over in 2016 on a temporary skills visa and we are now in the process of applying for PR. My ongoing experience with the DIBP this time is much the same as last time and it rarely goes smoothly - just when you think you must be almost there a new form or delay or expense pops up. I know it sounds obvious but really the best thing to do is to complete as much as you can, be ready to provide evidence of absolutely everything and try not to plan for a specific timeline. Still all that said moving to Australia has been completely amazing and I love it so hang in there :-) Hope you get your grant soon.
  19. Hi Just starting a new thread for anyone who has applied for a PR visa 189/190 after July. Mine is in - 190, State Nomination in QLD (onshore) with 80 points. Medicals booked next week. Still waiting for Aus post to deliver what are presumed clear background checks from U.K. Like everyone else, hoping for a quick turnaround ?
  20. Good to hear that there is a timeline to clear the backlog. As there's such a variety of applications under consideration it can be difficult to work out what the logic is. Crossing my fingers for everyone on the wait list and I'll start a new thread for August onwards so as not to clog up the page!
  21. Just a bit of an update. According to Dept. Immigration adviser (by phone) applications are *normally* prioritised by points, then occupation, then whether a state nomination has been approved followed by onshore/offshore, other circumstances, no. of existing approvals this financial year etc. So given that we already live here, have the state nomination and have 80 points I'll be applying via 190 route. I will keep the thread updated on processing timeline.
