  1. As the benefits claimed would not be paid by Centrelink only that the card is issued by them . The discounts are from a range of mainly government depts such as rates ,motor vehicles , water etc . To use your scenario the normal seniors card would also incur a debt which is not so . Obviously if you were not allowed the card for 10 years Centrelink would not be issuing it to you in the first place as you have to have a Centrelink account to apply .
  2. Thankyou for this info but checking online it appears to differ by State . I have seen 10 years mentioned for some areas and no waiting periods for others but I suppose I should phone Centrelink on Monday .
  3. We have applied and received the WA Seniors Card which gives you free to low price travel on Transperth and a range of discounts on touristry type attractions and eating out . It seems there is another card for seniors that gives big discounts for council rates etc . This card is issued through/ by Centrelink and seems to be means tested on income , does it affect your assurance bond of AUS10k if you apply and use the card .
  4. What sort of margins do you expect if you have £100k to convert to AUs$ . The current rate is 1.83 what rate can you expect?
  5. Just wondered where my toaster and microwave were hiding in my quarantine room , even the iron had been removed . I would say 14 days of ready meals would have been better than the slop we were served at the Westin Perth they should be ashamed . Yes I have paid my bill when it arrived 4 months later as I felt that it was part of the conditions to enter at that time .
  6. We got our visa last June and then sold house , arranged shipping , booked flights , etc etc . All in the middle of COVID I am not saying it was easy but you need to be focused on the end result
  7. Surely it would only take a small tweak to stop this loophole just put a no further stay on all tourist visas .
  8. We arrived in November PR and picked up the forms from Centrelink who do not now process since COVID . Filled them out and posted , thought it was taking a long time and phoned them , they confirmed receipt and the cards arrived the following week . It around four weeks.
  9. I don’t think that’s correct , ours was a specific date eg 24/08/2015 which was after lodgement
  10. Partners on the contract are treated as an exemption on disposal as long as they are over 45 years of age
  11. This is not the case where we are going it’s a joint contract in both names .
  12. We are just moving to a retirement village in Mullaloo as the fast rise in house prices would push us further north to get a property that would suit us . The big pull for us to move over was to be in close proximity to our grandchildren and 2 km rather than 30km is the clincher . The amount saved initially on purchase price will pay the management fees and give plenty of equity to live comfortably , I realise the final exit fees make up the cost and have explained this to our family who are more than happy to have us close
  13. This was certainly the case when we applied for the 103 back in 2015 but there was nothing like a three year gap between the dates . I wonder if the queue date calculator is about to come back online . This new system surely favours using an agent to ensure your application is spot on as any mistakes could cost you years before getting a queue date .
  14. Ours was £4200 last September UK to Perth . We got about six quotes and they ranged from £3800 to £5200 you have to check to see what’s included plus they were all willing to compete on price .
  15. I thought you both had to be either on shore or off shore together to get the visa ?
  16. The money sits in a bank account for 10 years so no option to pay Centrelink . Some branches charge and if your lucky the odd one doesn’t . I have just used Moneycorp last week and did the trade last Thursday , money transferred F riday and in my Aussie account Monday morning . I did find it a bit of a palaver to set up from Australia due to bank daily limits , new payee , money laundering , and confirming ID with Moneycorp
  17. We applied in Nov last year and it took 24 days to arrive
  18. They are up to Sept 2010 at the moment so you have got a long way to go . We had a queue date of 24/08/2015 but swopped to 143 last year and received our visa in June . The queue date calculator has been down since they added other parent visas to it and there were obvious errors in the figures .
  19. And if you live in Australia it will be frozen at the date you first receive it
  20. Have a look at my time line for the switch last year
  21. We moved over in November and have been to the beach zero on our own however we do go to Little Nippers life savers with the grandees at Mullaloo on Sunday mornings
  22. This appears to refer to applications for 103 visas that are subject to reviews not the initial application charge . Mind you happy to be proved wrong
  23. Our original queue date for 103 was accepted and straight to the top of the queue . We did not get a refund for the initial 103 application as it was our choice to switch over . We are now living in Perth so it all went smoothly last year but very expensive .
  24. You will not get a refund for the 103 visa application
  25. Maybe house swops is the way to go . We have done ten in Australia between one month and six months includes car as well and free
