  1. Don't even think about taking that kind of stuff in your suitcases, you could blow up the plane you are on!!! I think you are best off shipping the cosmetics/makeup and nail varnishes by sea and selling the aerosols before you go. Apart from being super dangerous, they would wreck everything you have packed with them and the likelihood of them exploding or leaking is very high due to the constant change in temperatures.
  2. They don't taste like cheese at all... and I love rice pudding anyways Not a fan of cream or cheese myself but I could quite possible sway you on the Tiramisu x

    Luggage allowance

We are flying BA & have 2 suitcases each in Premium Economy with 1 hand luggage plus handbag/laptop each as well but will most likely book at least 1 extra large suitcase if not more when I panic and realise I cannot pack my life up that easily. Qantas suck for initial luggage allowance, BA are very generous and we waited to book a through flight for this reason.
  4. Yay! OMG I am thinking Onion Bhajis and Samosas with mint yoghurt accompaniment... 2 short weeks and I shall be in heaven... yay for me!!!
  5. Hope the Good Curry comments aren't bizarre I can wait for the best Vindaloo with Cucumber Raita and a Paratha of my life... mmmmm LOL With Gulab Jamun for dessert
  6. It is truly amazing that you have lived your life with absolutely no help from anyone. If you are in such a good situation then perhaps you could contribute positively to this thread by letting the OP know how it is you live such an amazing "self funded" lifestyle, which is so very amazing you have decided to cross not only a continent, but the entire world to live it elsewhere.
  7. I am not sure that Charities give money to anyone but they can help with food and vouchers for Utility Bills {which don't even come out of your taxes btw... they are given to the Charities by the Utility Companies}. I am sorry that your friend did not receive help but she should have. No one is funding the OP's trip or "lifestyle" it is complete bollocks, she is just asking for a little help to feed and house her kids whilst Hubby is setting up a new future for them.
  8. Gorgeous place to live... perfect for a bus straight to work to RNSH and a lovely community with much to offer Night life not so great but not much diff from living anywhere else other than Inner City.
  9. I am not agreeing with cash in hand work at all, what I am saying is that those people that do work like that still inadvertently pay taxes. Cash in hand work is also a risky way of working because you are also not covered by workers compensation etc. In Australia wages are now tax free for the first $18K anyway for permanent residents, they slug us elsewhere with the GST, Wine Equalisation Tax, Cigarette Taxes and now the Carbon Tax I don't believe people should be living off benefits having never worked a day in their life but I do believe that people should have access to help when they need it. Most people will experience a change of circumstances in their life, whether due to unemployment, illness or even a natural disaster. Even if you have never needed help, I am sure you know someone that does.
  10. Well I hope the OP does get help and I wish the same for you too
  11. You do realise that the whole point of the VAT and/or GST is that EVERYONE is a Taxpayer... so there can be no holier than thou attitude when it comes to paying taxes and how they should be distributed. Even people who do cash in hand jobs are paying taxes every time they shop or pay their phone and utility bills etc.
  12. Best of luck to you and your family too Vikkey <3 xxx
  13. Yep, my Hubby initially came out here on a WHV... it was approved online within about 20 minutes. Do that and then decide before forking out several thousand dollars. You can both also do New Zealand for a year as you have up until you are 30 and any Aussie can live and work in NZ. You don't need to have lived together for the Defacto Visa, you just need to prove the point in time when you started a genuine and committed relationship. Don't stress about it, enjoy your time together here and then decide. I am actually going to the UK in a couple of weeks forever as we have decided to live there instead... so you never know what may happen. Best of luck to you and your loved one
  14. You should contact your University to find out about postgraduate employment. No one here can tell you what the cost of living will be in 3-4 years time or what jobs will be available. If you are seeking a Government position in your chosen field then Canberra would be ideal. I believe that Canberra is also the cheapest place to live at this point in time but be aware that cheapest does not mean cheap. Australia has become a very expensive place to live.
  15. Nope, you start off with no credit rating. You can get a mobile phone on contract to start off your credit history. Open a bank account and get a credit card with a low credit limit. There are no ratings as such in Australia, it is up to the individual lender to assess your circumstances.
  16. A walk is a walk in any dog's book I would definitely get someone to keep tabs on them when they are in quarantine but best not to visit them until you are picking them up for good.
  17. Legalities aside, do Australian Phones work fully in the UK including Calling Number Display?
  18. I agree with Snifter... if you are in a "sort of relationship" then you really need to show proof or go the Prospective Marriage Visa route. I understand that you both may never want to get married but if you want to be together in Oz then it may be your only option. You can get married at a Registry Office or in any place of your choosing with a Celebrant for very little money or fuss. I get the not getting married but living together thing, I did it for 12 years with my ex (my choice) but then again I guess I always knew in my heart that it was not a forever thing.
  19. Wishing your cuties a safe journey and a very happy quarantine x
  20. I can't agree to disagree when Children are involved.
  21. How is putting someone down sticking your neck out??? No one is funding their trip out here, as the OP has stated, they have already done that. Her Hubby does not have a job yet... he is coming out here to get one and she is going to be struggling in the UK without him.
  22. I love a good debate but when someone is struggling to house and feed their family, it is not at all controversial. No one chooses to be broke and the OP and her Hubby are obviously trying to change things for the better and make a new life for themselves and their little ones.
