  1. UK citizens are generally entitled to the UK personal allowance regardless of where they live.

    Is this justice?

It's not the courts - it is the DPP. The prosecutors decided the charge should be manslaughter, not murder. With that charge the judge only had a limited range of sentences available.
  3. There is a withholding tax of 10% that banks have to deduct from interest paid to non-residents, which you may have seen reference to.
  4. If you lost out due to bad advice shouldn't you be complaining to the agent and claiming against their professional indemnity insurance (all RMAs are required to have it)?
  5. A pedant would say the abbreviation is 'plane - along with 'phones and 'papers. It's probably not the possible damage at that point they are worried about - it is the extra risk caused by the blown tyres that would have a greater impact if any other emergencies occurred during the rest of the journey.
  6. It is safer to deal with it straight away than risk something else happening during the flight, when the blown tyres would cause further complications.
  7. I think you may need to read the booklet again. The first-stage visa (provisional rather than temporary) has no study or work restrictions I think, other than no Commonwealth fee help is available. Are you confusing the part where it talks about the conditions of your previous visa remaining in force until your provisional visa is granted? (Although the rules on this changed about a year ago)
  8. It means your data allowance isn't available if you are 'roaming' abroad.
  9. My answer above (the same as NickyNook's) is based on my experience of a visa with the same terms in the grant letter.
  10. The grant letter does give a latest date of entry, says the visa is valid for multiple stays and that the maximum length of a stay is 3 months My experience with a similar visa is that each stay can be up to the maximum length, not the total time spent in Australia can be no more than that length.
  11. Your visa terms say you must not arrive after a date, and you can stay for 3 months once you arrive. It doesn't say you must be out of Australia by a certain date.
  12. Isn't the expiry date on VEVO the expiry of her current 3 month stay? The grant letter and VEVO both give a latest entry date of Aug 2014, and the grant letter says multiple entries with a maximum 3 month stay each time.
  13. Although under the old UK rules you were generally resident for the whole year if you were resident for part of it, there is an extra statutory concession which means that if Russell can show a clean break from the UK the year can be split into resident and non-resident periods. Chapter 8 of the HMRC booklet HMRC 6 covers the year in which someone leaves the UK. It is also possible to be resident in two countries at the same time, as each country has different rules. The UK rules changed on 6 April 2013 with the introduction of the Statutory Residence Test.
  14. Is your mortgage interest only? It is only the interest portion of your mortgage payment that you can deduct from the income (as well as expenses such as agents' fees, repairs etc.) You will have to complete a self-assessment form to declare the income and claim the expenses.
  15. Did she have a partner visa, or was she the partner of someone who had a visa? (Which is what is implied by the term 'secondary applicant')
  16. Set up an Aus account before you leave and use Moneycorp or similar to transfer your money. You will get Moneycorp's rates, and avoid the fees inherent in traveller's cheques or using your bank to move the money. Converting it an carrying it with you is obviously risky - it's a long journey to be worrying about it.
  17. Have used them many times without a problem.
  18. Moneycorp is quoting AUD 2,865.40 for EUR 2,000. No fees.
  19. As blossom says, you get full Medicare as a returning citizen. You do need to register and prove you live in Aus - http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/medicare/medicare-card/medicare-enrolment-for-returning-residents The LHC implications depend on your age when the LHC was introduced. If you were overseas and over 31 on 1 July 2000 then you start using your 1,094 days as soon as you return. If you turned 31 whilst overseas and after that date, you get 12 months to register. http://www.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/health-privatehealth-lhc-providers-faq.htm#lhcintro
  20. There is the sports stream of the 401 visa (http://www.immi.gov.au/visas/temporary-visa/401/) which, according to the DIAC site, requires sponsorship and confirmation from the governing body o your value to the sport.

    Banking

Sign up with Moneycorp or a similar provider and then transfer money from your existing UK bank account to your NAB account. As a PIO member transfers through Moneycorp are free. There are a couple of UK credit cards that don't charge fees for overseas withdrawals, but you probably don't have time to get one.
  22. I've read lots of stories on here of Aussies living abroad for years and then applying for the visa offshore before moving back together.
  23. Shouldn't they have found out about these complications before they gave you a quote?
  24. For UK tax that's not how it works - the PPR relief reduces the taxable amount of the total gain from purchase/March 1982 (whichever is later).
