Yes I had bank holidays on top of my 20 days leave just like I get public holidays on top of my leave here in Aus.

My annual leave at my last company in the UK was only a miserly 20 days. I worked 8.30am till 17.30pm plus at least an hour commute each way. Then there was the travel and overnight stays for work. So for me the work life balance in the UK was poor. I'd go to work before my son was awake and wasn't home until after he was asleep. Now I live 2km from work and work less hours with more flexibility. I don't have to travel and my employer is a lot more accommodating. I'm still only getting the 20 days annual leave but I can build up an extras day a month by working an extra 2 hours a week, which is still less hours than I worked in the UK. Most importantly I get more time with the family

Move out in July, got a job within the 1st week on a temp basis but now permanent. My wife took a bit longer to get a job, and only because she is pregnant, but she has got a permanent job. It's not all doom and gloom. Will work out for some but sadly not others. But you never never know if you don't give it a go.

Some replys to this thread amuse me. I lost count of the number of times in the UK I heard locals whinging about foreigners coming in and taking their jobs. Yet Brits are always happy to move o/s and take jobs that locals could do.

No. Grew up in grew up in Melbourne, spent a few years on the Gold Coast then came over to the UK/Europe travelling. But am moving back to Brisbane as that's where a lot of my immediate family now live. I personally like Brisbane, maybe not as lively as Sydney or Melbourne but then again that's not what I'm looking for.

Our container was packed today, ship is set to sail on 22nd June and arrive in Brisbane on 27th July. In addition there is customs processing time at other end. So about 8 weeks if all goes smoothly.

But that's all part of the adventure of moving somewhere new, trying new things, seeing new things etc. If you want Britain then stay in Britain, don't move to Australia or elsewhere....simples.

It is quick that. Given that you only applied a couple of weeks afterwards Tulip I'd be onto your CO asking for a visa grant before you fly on the 1st of July...or are they still saying it'll be 8-9 month grant time?

I was born and bred in Aus and came over to the UK when I was 22 and I've still researched my move back home to death.

Maybe that will serve as a warning to all other DM readers and they will stay in England and not even attempt to move out to Aus.

Hey Cal, I've only just noticed you're in Jimboomba. Our stuff is being shipped just down the road from you to Mundoolun where my Mum lives.

Has anyone put down an Australian address and used an Australian Skype number on job applications whilst still living and working in the UK? It's only a month till I fly but thought this might make my applications more appealing to Aussie employers and help me get a job before arrive or set up interviews the week I arrive. Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks
