  5. thanks guys, trying every avenue right now. Thanks for the link scotexpat, hubby is looking right now. He mainly works in Tivoli and AIX admin Jules2409. We will move where the work is.
  6. A major IT company bought us out here on a 457 4 year visa with an initial 2 year contract, well someone high up decided the project wasnt right and cancelled it. We have only been here 5 months. He has been desperately looking for other work but nothing coming up so looks like we are heading home. Just furnished our house and brought a car too.
  7. I have found customer service from Aussies in shops to be excellent, still surprises me when they say 'How are ya?' 'Enjoy the rest of your day' I have been welcomed to Australia on several occasions when they here my accent and ask how long have we been here.
  8. We dont have them. Just end of lease we were told by the agent, so if we stay long term it will be one a year.
  9. I have been in Melbourne 3 months, I miss friends and family but dont miss the UK one bit. The first 6 weeks were a nightmare for me, was looking at flights and very weepy. I proverbially kicked my own butt and told myself to 'man up' I realise it isnt for everyone but its very right for us. I Skype a lot and call my kids once a week for a quick chat. I think it helps that I have lived all over the world and settle in places very quickly. We joined a social group which has helped us make friends and I can talk the hind leg off of a donkey so always start conversations up with people.
  10. Hey Danielle, was lovely to meet you today! I had a chat with my letting agent and he has given me a number for another agent for you to call, I will personal message it to you. You will get tons of information on here and if you fancy a coffee just gimme a shout Kay
  11. I have gone through every emotion in the last 4 weeks (not good when you have Psoriasis) I have had massive wobbles, excitement, sheer terror and then the whatever attitude. I have have been hugged LOTS and had friends devastated like we are dying. I booked the freight today and my son has cleared his bedroom (loads of tears) Ex husband has finally manned up after a lot of years of being bleurghhhh and given my son (who is staying in UK) loads of advice. We have a week left for goodbyes. Got my kids to download Whatsapp so they can text me for free.
  12. Jassop, I was thinking exactly the same, we also going to Melbourne, landing on 26th. I have lived and worked in other countries before and go with an open mind. Everyone is different and has different expectations. Our attitude is... give it a go, better to have tried and failed than to not of tried at all.
  13. Nothing for me, I was getting a bit worried as I seemed an afterthought on the application, if you know what I mean. Once all the paperwork was in ours took 8 days. Approval email granting the visa had a separate bit in with my name.
  14. Hiya Donna, we are off next Monday. Its been about 7 weeks from Interview process to arrival, I have been like a madwoman getting everything sorted, its all done now. Hubby is going to be working for IBM. It took 8 days for the visa's once they had all the forms etc. We discussed it 'after' my hubby put his CV details on the wrong group on Link'd In and was offered an interview, we thought, hey... what the hell, lets go for it. So we did and next Monday we are off.
  15. I am on my husbands 457 and mine was included with his, I didnt have to do anything.
  16. We have a 16 hour stopover at Bangkok when we travel in a couple of weeks, does anyone know if we are allowed to leave the airport ?
  17. Hi Everyone I am Kay and currently live in Hampshire, my husband has just been officially offered a job in Melbourne. Looks like we are moving then I have been looking at the forum through all the interview process and its great to be able to finally join. We will be sponsored (well at least I think thats the right term) by his employer. I am nervous and excited all at once.
