  1. Hey everyone! Ok, so my sister and I are running a baking operation, which is registered as a limited liability partnership firm. I'm dying to make the move down under, but what's eating away at me is whether this kind of self employment will be considered acceptable. Does anyone have an idea as to what sort of evidence we can provide?
  2. "A permanent visa for eligible overseas students who have obtained an Australian qualification in Australia as a result of at least two years study and for holders of certain temporary visas with skills in demand in Australia." Umm, I think the 'certain temporary visas' they're referring to might actually include the 457...
  3. I had thought about that, but When I wrote to the legal practitioners boards, they all said the same thing: I'd have to do 11 separate courses all approximately about $2000 each, which made no sense. So gotta get in the honest way...
  4. Hi Kel, from the reading I've been doing over the past few days, I think the recent work experience has only been removed from the final stage, i.e. the Visa bit only. For the other parts, I think they'll still be using their own rules, especially separate bodies like the state sponsorship people. For eg: While there may not be a work experience requirement now, the requirements for a skills assessment for a Baker with Vetassess are a Cert III + 2 years experience; or a Cert IV. So if I get a Cert IV I can get the skills assessment and apply now, but if I've only got a Cert III, then I HAVE to get the 2 years of exp to qualify for the skills assessment, even if I don't need it for the grant of the Visa. Make Sense? (I could be, and am rather often, wrong! ) If the State sponsorship people require a number of years of experience, then I think you may actually have to satisfy that. Although, (and this is just what I would do - Its not advice and I'm not sure how wrong I may be) since you already have your skills assessment, you should put in your EOI now, fill in all your details, and select which visas you'd be interested in. If you select state sponsorship and employer sponsored, Someone might pick you out of their database and sponsor you. So that just might work out for you. Best of luck!!
  5. Hi Everybody! I'm a 27 year old lawyer who's just walked away from it all to do try and make a living off something I love - Baking. Now the thing is, I tried going there and doing the course-my Aunt offered to loan ne the money- but the visa was turned down because they weren't convinced that I was a 'Genuine Temporary Entrant'. Guess lawyers don't usually up and decide to become bakers that often, eh? Anyway, their loss, because I'll be getting qualified and then going there. Planning on doin the City&Guilds Diploma in Baking and Patisserie (IVQ level 3- I believe) as well as their Advanced Diploma in the same. The DIAC specifies a Cert III + 2 Yrs of experience for a successful skills assessment. Or if you have a Cert IV, you don't need the experience. I've read in a lot of places that the Level 3 Diploma has been assessed as Higher than their Cert IV (which happens to be a skill level 3 on the ANZSCO - perhaps that's why). I'm counting quite heavily on this last bit, but the problem is, I've seen it for other trades/professions and not for bakers yet. So are there any bakers out there who have made the move successfully or even gotten a positive skills assessment? Any tips, stories or pointers from any other tradies too will be appreciated! Thanks!!
  6. Hey Everybody! Just Registered here, can't believe the wealth of info I've found on here! Anyhoo, my question was this: The news is that the DIAC has removed the Recent Work Experience (12/24) requirement. Now from this I'm not sure what conclusion to draw. Does this mean that if you've got the required work experience it doesn't have to have been in the immediately preceding 2 years(thus, not recent), or does it do away with the work experience requirement altogether, which would allow freshers to apply? :err: Also is this only for the Visa bit, or is it for the Skills assessment? <--Probably a stupid question, ey?
