  1. Right so after being told yesterday that my place of work is being sold in 3 months time, I have decided to finally take the first steps to hopefully acquiring my long procrastinated visa. No kids or financial ties in the UK. I know I need to register with ANZPAC to work there. I'm a qualified and registered Podiatrist here, and thankfully dont require a skills assessment as I graduated recently. This is a bit of a double-edged sword however as I am on the lower end of the points scale due to work experience (or lack of). If I choose a state nominated route and with a superior English assessment I get 65 points. For this reason, I have decided to take the PTE route as opposed to IELTS (as the general consensus seems to be it's "more straightforward) even though it means much more travelling. I can do without missing out on 5 essential points and having to re-sit. For those that have taken it, any particular areas which you think require more focus on revising than others? Many thanks in advance!
  2. I speak from 2013 but I'd avoid Adelaide if looking for unskilled work unless you have connections. Loads of work in Perth when I was there but that was during the boom.
  3. Hi, I read your account of your journey earlier, mine isn't too dissimilar! I trained at Cardiff Met! My circumstances are no kids, no partner and no ties here financial or otherwise and a clean bill of health. I spent a year in Oz from '12-'13 so am relatively au fait with the place lol Where did you study? Oh btw how long has the process taken you?
  4. Hi all, I'm a recently graduated Podiatrist and as such am eligible to apply for a few state sponsored/regional visas. How much is needed for this process in total please, bearing in mind I am a single applicant? Many thanks
  5. Only messing about mate, as it happens I agree with a lot of your posts having lived in Perth as well (albeit not as long).
  6. Genuine question, do you work for the Aussie tourist board?
  7. If you haven't driven you wouldn't know any different though.
  8. Exactly. Hmm the general consensus is "don't know". I think my next step is to sign up to an Aussie credit rating agency somehow.
  9. Thanks both and nice pun Beaty! @blossom, yeah it's the same as in the UK (six year thing). I did try signing up for one of the Australian credit agencies to check but they wanted permanent addresses etc. lol bit of a nightmare. As a moderator, any chance you can move this to the NAB section please?
  10. Hi all, long time no post! Back in 2012 I spent a year travelling Aus. and while in Perth I took out a 6 month contract in a gym in one of the many retail parks on the outskirts which I ended up cancelling around 2 months in. Now I know that they tried chasing me up when I was still there as I recall the phonecall. Cut scene, I am a year away from graduating as a Podiatrist, and plan on applying for my PR Visa the second I get my HCPC registration....so my question is, do I need to set the ball rolling now to sort this debt/contract out? It's hardly big money but the last thing I want is "computer says no" when I get there. I am of course awilling and able to pay any amounts outstanding...is there a credit ref agency I need to check? Many thanks, Gaz (I am well aware I shouldn't have renegaed on my contract FWIW) Cliff's notes - Set up a 6 month gym membership in Perth as a backpacker which I didn't honour. - Am around 16 months away from applying for PR (Podiatrist) would this still be effecting my credit there. - If so what agencies do I need to speak to.
  11. It's 30. Good advice as you can work as a TA on WHV. LOL, mate I don't take things on this site personally. I wish you all the best but there are reams and reams of posts from sparks with a hell of a lot more experience than you who have struggled. If that isn't a heads up I don't know what is, it's just the trade that seems to have the most hassle adjusting. Just the way it is.
  12. Yes....but as I mentioned it's amazing how someone can get shoehorned into a certain position if well liked enough and seen as an asset to the business. Disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing again on this site
  13. My god you are immature. You act like a spoiled child, have a quick peek what subsection of the forum you are posting in for a start. Crack on mate, and let us all know how the dream plans out for you.
  14. Also to add, dreadful and I mean dreadful TV, complete lack of customer service (actually it's more a sneering disdain), outnumbered by introverted Chinese and Indian immigrants 50/1, the list goes on. Yes, there are jobs here, but what on earth makes you think the aussies are not going to cherry pick the cushy numbers for themselves, their economy is not THAT good that they can afford or want to give a well paid comfortable job to some "pommie" who just rocked up, which btw is the view they have of Brits.
  15. Skyba, PaulPerth's son did his apprenticeship here in Oz. Big difference mate. Instead of becoming too emotionally involved in this, and cutting your nose off to spite your face, why not take the advice of several people here all saying the same thing? Namely, if you are that desperate to come here and earn big bucks re train as either a welder or a heavy diesel fitter, and hope the mines boom is still going. (Said tounge firmly in cheek) And if you think being from Cornwall will prepare you for life out here paying $60 for two small sized bags of shopping and $200 for a CHEAP night out, you will have a rude awakening. That's not to mention endless uncoordinated traffic lights, masses of traffic on tiny roads, boring soulless streets where literally no one interacts with each other etc etc. It is not the be all and end all here mate and trust me I came from a much, much worse economic situation in the UK than you. In fact I was due to be made effectively homeless.
  16. What hasn't been mentioned here is that if a company likes you enough, they will basically make a role for you mate. Hence I know bargirls and waiters that have been sponsored, it's all about falling in with the right employer and manager. This is as important as having the right "skill". Not PC on here but true.
  17. Rates for TA's here vary between $20-25 an hour, could be more for sparkies but I think it's about the same.
  18. On a WHV? A flying pig just flew past me, stop lying if so you would be in the top 5% of backpackers lucky enough to get that type of job.
  19. Umm two points first of all he/she works in "marketing" which is another way of saying sales, and secondly I never said they would have issue getting a job, more the quality of job involved. People on here just disagreeing with posts before reading them through is pissing me off.
  20. If I had the cash I'd be on the plane tommorow mate, then off to Canada. It's far far too expensive here.
  21. What you say about low wages for trades is true. I remember seeing an advert for a skmming job (plastering) for 7 pounds per hour not too long before I left! A lot is dependant on where you are in the UK though mate. I lived in the very poor south wales valleys spinning my wheels for years, with the benefit of hindsight coming out here has taught me perhaps a move towards Bristol, the West Country or even London would have been better. And I also agree with you (though you will get a LOT of flak on here for saying this) that the UK is finished as a first world economy. I notice that Mervyn King is trying his best to sound convincing talking up about a recovery being in sight but there is no convincing evidence of this at all, anecdotally or statistically.
  22. It is almost non existant compared to the UK.
  23. To be perfectly frank most of the jobs available on a WHV are the jobs that Aussies don't want to do. However if you have a trade/niche or specialisation or are generally very good at your job there are exceptions.
  24. I agree with you! In Darwin they were sound, they keep themselves to themselves generally.
