Small city to start in Australia. Which?

But I want to enjoy during those 4 months haha For example my lifestyle while I am not working is: Commute with bicycle through the city, riding the outdoors to discover new places, walk the streets of the city, have a coffee, go shopping... I do not need more for 4 months and I think (looking at Google's images) that Bendigo seems like a small town with a lot of events. Well, I am going to work, I will read you in 10h

At the same time I also think it will be easier for a me to find a room, demand and supply will be better than Sydney, Melbourne... for a newcomer like me that point is very important.

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

First of all thank you for your answers. My idea is not to live there for an unlimited time, only for 3-4 months trying to work in the regional Australia (Bendigo belongs to that zone) to apply for the second year visa. If I can achieve my idea then I would move to other popular places like Sydney, Melbourne... By the way, if you have to choose between Bendigo and Toowoomba, which would you choose? (Thinking it is only for a 3-4 months time) Thanks

I would like to correct and error, here is the correct paragraph: Other thing I remembered is the second year visa. To be able to apply for the second year Work and Holiday Visa you have to work 88 days (specified work: Plant and animal cultivation, Felling trees, Fishing and Pearling, Mining and Construction) in the regional Australia and most of the cities written in the original post are not in regional Australia. Toowoomba is within the regional area.

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

Hello Collie, During all these days I have been thinking about the place to go. Now I only have a flight to Singapore (to your question: I am from Spain), so I have to know where to go in Australia to buy the other flight. Other thing I remembered is the second year visa. To be able to apply for the second year Work and Holiday Visa you have to work 88 days (specified work: Plant and animal cultivation, Felling trees, Fishing and Pearling, Mining and Construction) in the regional Australia and most of the cities written in the original post are in regional Australia. Toowoomba is within the regional area. This is the Great Brisbane border, out of that line is considered as Regional Australia: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=10XYyFXlxAtA1hPS83eMLvcXyGlw&hl=en&ll=-27.496252698337635%2C152.71671318554684&z=10 So, my thought today is something like: Land in Gold Coast from Singapore. Spend 2-3 days in the city and open a Bank Account, buy a phone number, ask for the Tax File Number. Take the bus/train and move to Toowoomba. Look for a job that counts as a specified work and have a first contact with Australian people, life style, Australian tradition, etc. With a better spoken english (I hope :D) move to a big city and enjoy all I have read about them. I have been walking for Toowoomba with Google Street View and from end to end there is 5km aprox, if I could live and work within that city it would be perfect. That is my only fear. Thank you for your time

Roger that! I know distances in Australia are too big, but let's suppose I live in Toowoomba. Do you think I can be self-sufficient with a bicycle (assuming I find a job in the center)?

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

Thanks for the information, it will help me a lot. Looking at graphic, what I have read about Perth and the decrease of the jobs was right. Could be a good choice too, and 1h from Melbourne. Thanks for your answer. I do not know why, but I think I like Toowoomba more than others because of how it sounds

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

Happy to read this I am staying in this forum to read more topics and ask more questions. My idea to flight to Australia was on late November but now I am reconsidering it because I have read in other topic that during summer period Australian students are in holidays and a lot of jobs go to them (which I find normal and perfect by the way).

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

Thanks to all of you for your answers. I can gather and update my information with them Rallyman, I would like to work in construction. Yes I do, I am civil engineer but my english level from 0 to 120 is 50. I suppose I will have to start doing some unskilled works until I reach a better english. Anyway I have 3 years experience, not too much not too little. Thank you again PD: I am going to look into Newcastle

Small city to start in Australia. Which?

I have read a lot of jobs are gone, not the same than 10 years ago. For that reason I discarded Perth.
  13. Hello people, thinking about where to live for a limited time (1 year max) I have arrived a conclusion. Go to a big city has pros but also cons. Basically I do not like the idea of living in a city where the room I can afford be 15 km from CBD. So I am looking for a small cities (100.000-500.000 people) where I can find my opportunity (any work that is not a waiter ). Can you give me a few options? I read about Toowoomba, Plainland... any more? These are the other <500.000 cities: Newcastle Wollongong Sunshine Coast Geelong Launceston Albury-Wodonga Thank you very much

    Difficult decision: Melbourne or Barcelona

Consider and have a look to rent prices in Bcn...
  15. Thank you for your answer Collie I completely agree with your response, but my fear is the demand/supply to rent a room. Here in my country I have and idea how difficult is to find a good room at a fair price, so I can't imagine the same in Sydney or Melbourne (both are Top10 cities in the world). About Perth, thank you for the information, I have read something about the construction work decent, so I just discarded that option right now Thank you for your point of view Quoll. is very much a "who you know" rather than "what you know" I will consider to flight to Australia after summer holidays. Interesting. I keep your response as an other option And this question for all of you: What is your idea about Toowoomba? 1h aprox. from Brisbane, 100k people (more native speakers in my opinion, good for me) and it seems it has a good opportunities. Thank you mates
