  1. Will do mate. Out of interest what the nationality mix of backpackers there, the usual, mainly German and Irish?
  2. Yeahh I dunno why I just feel a pull to the place. Nothing whatsoever to do with it being (apparently) the best city in Oz for single men, no siree not at all.
  3. Yeah it's a fkin saga getting it anyway mate, you're better off. Cool, will let you know when I arrive mate. You can show me some of the sights
  4. Yeah I have no inclination to go to Sydney at all.
  5. Nice one, will google them. Are you doing your regional?
  6. Choley Nick is right, just feel the fear, and do it anyway. You have to step out of your comfort zone now and again to grow as a person. I've learned a lot since coming out here, good and bad but wouldn't change it for the world now. Come out here on a WHV.
  7. Yeah of course, i'll be leaving by the end of the week latest, Flights from Perth are expensive (surprise urprise) to Brisbane, so that may be a factor though. What backpackers are you in?
  8. Ah you're in Brissie mate? Either coming there or Adelaide next. Any good how much work is there?
  9. Been in Perth over 5 months now and am very bored. Not too fussed on either Sydney or Melbourne, fancy somewhere a little slower paced (not to mention cheaper). Anyone who has been to the the two recommend? Obviously jobs are a factor (construction but will do anything given it's my last 3 months) and obviously nightlife though I am more of a pub than a club man. Transport links will be important as I am not buying a car. Any suggestions?
  10. LOL, the difference is if you want overtime in Aus to pay for beef as opposed to horse you could get it. Christ you could get a 2nd job if you really wanted to. In the UK the second job option would be the primary earner for a lot of people.
  11. If you could get bank and agency work on a WHV you'd have the time of your life as you'd be on great $$$ but still not tied down to a company/state for sponsorship. I'm telling you that you would get harangued to agree to sponsorship very quickly as I think they are in dire need of MH nurses partic in the NT. My sis is a nurse in SA, she emmigrated PR but has just returned to the UK as she is pregnant. She is saying it is not permanent but I am not so sure as she has no family out here other than me and was stating she wouldn't return full stop a few weeks back. Oh and BTW I wouldn't worry too much about saving. As a mental health nurse you will have a job as soon as you land basically and be on great money.
  12. Fk me Bob are you stating you used to be, heaven forbid, one of those........... POMS?
  13. Choley you certainly won't be short of sponsorhip offers as a mental health nurse BUT and I've said this before on here, if you have a good life in the UK at present (as you stated) I'd think long and hard about accepting any sponsorship offer. Australia is an awesome country but it is very different to the UK on a lot of levels and you really have to be here for a while to appreciate it. I am on a WHV too. If I had a good life in the UK then I would come out on an extended holiday recce and test the waters. Whether you can do that as a mental health nurse or have to do something else I don't know unfortunately. You could meet the man of your dreams and find the perfect job withing a week, a lot do but definitely do a reconnaisance for a while first. First 3 months I was here I loved every second and wouldnt have a bad word said against it. 9 months in to be frank I'd leave and try Canada next week if I had the money at this present time. Nothing against the people but it just doesn't feel like somewhere I could call home for the rest of my life as I could get sponsorship If I wanted.
  14. Only problem with renting is the laws that favour tenants in the UK to an unbelievable level. I know cos' I was one lol. Essentially as the law sees it, it's their house for the tenure of the lease. If they want to be really arsey they can insist you do not step near the property (with full backing of the law i.e police) and all communication is to them in writing. Extreme but they are legally entitled. Also, you can only REALLY do anything legally once they havent paid for THREE months. On the other hand if you can find a good long term tenant great, many do.
  15. Also let's face it most wild animal meat is not pleasant. Rabbit, duck and pheasant wild are all far too gamey and "irony" for my liking. Apparently though, if you shoot a deer when it's not expecting it as in it hasn't run itself to exhaustion, the lack of adrenalin in the blood gives it a much nicer taste. Wonder if it works the same for other game. Some in the UK will soon be finding out if food prices keep going up and horse gets taken off the market lol. #poachingforthewin.
  16. Yeah definitely also, as a taxidermist he knows his way around a badgers carcass as well. I'd be up for trying most foods, but a dead ferret from the side of the A470 complete with nettle garnish may be pushing it.
  17. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2048527/Jonathan-McGowan-roadkill-Owl-curry-adder-stir-fried-craneflies.html Bon Appetit. Funny old thing, him being a batchelor. I was thinking about taking a girl to a roadkill cafe once for a date for a laugh.
  18. A given mate. Have a good google about what's in Mcdonalds famous 30c soft scoop cone out here.... always wondered how they sold it so cheap.:chatterbox:
  19. You'll be bothered when you find out it's not some lithe muscular ex racehorse you've been eating but more like a mangy rubbish feeding donkey from some village in Romania.
  20. Exactly. "She" knows a little bit too much about certain elements of Aus for my liking. She could be a genuine poster but if she is she is going to struggle as soon as the wheels hit the tarmac this side of the world. Not enough flexibility, and I don't mean hamstrings.
