  1. Hi rob, what line of work are you guys in then? If you dont mind me asking
  2. If you do some research you will find its not easy. If we could all get jobs before arriving there would be very little to worry about!! what sort of work are you looking for?
  3. I guess the issue would be the vouchers would be bought in one currency but to be used in another. Could get complicated for the shops for little benefit to them. Is there john lewis and m&s in australia??
  4. I wouldn't have a problem saying to people, look, all our stuff has been shipped so we only have suitcases in which to take all our stuff, so if you were considering giving us any sort of gift, we would prefer things that are easy to pack! if people have a problem with that then i would question how much they cared about us if they were prepared to ignore our advice for the sake of buying us something we clearly didn't want. And i speak from experience as i have very annoying family have done things like this to make a point!!! And generally i have sold it on or charity shopped it or chucked it in the bin!!! didnt mean to be rude, just thought your comment was a little unnecessary and did not contribute to the op's question
  5. Thats a little unnecessary. Maybe you are jealous they have loving family and friends who would like to spoil them! what about things you would need in the first few weeks you can take in your suitcases? New camera? Or card for your camera for all those pics you will be taking! A guide book for the area you are going to be in? New clothes you may jot have treated yourself with? Some people may not have a problem giving you some aussie dollars for a treat
  6. You can search on seek for all sectors and select part time as a criteria, should give you what you are looking for?
  7. Thanks for clarifying everyone, is the childcare rebate also available for all PR holders?
  8. Yes, does seem if you have an aussie family member, doesnt state how close, you may be eligible straightaway. But not if you just have PR and do not have an aussie relative. can anyone advise?
  9. Hi all, have seen a few questions regarding applying for benefits if on a PR visa. Came across this today: http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/newly-arrived-residents-waiting-period does anyone know if this enforced? I assume it is, however i have seen people give advice that as soon as you have a tfn number you can apply for benefits, or does it depend on the benefit? any advice welcome, thanks
  10. This is the same in SA where i used to live. Shocked me when i came to the UK and everyone parks anywhich way that suits them! Sorry you got caught out by this, at least you wont do it again
  11. Omg, the people today had a budget of £125k for a house!!!!!! Seriously????? Anyone else seen it?
  12. Haha lois was so funny, some of the things she said made me cringe though! "Pirates are no laughing matter, im a captain of a boat!" also feel sorry for some of the blokes on there, esp when they make them do the stupid thing at the end that usually makes loads of girls turn off! I just dont get some of them, like if he seemed nice enough and then he comes out doing dancing or karate or whatever, why would you turn off? I think some of the girls just feel sorry for them so use the last round as an excuse to switch off. there is always one girl that always leaves her light on no matter what the guy is like, there is one in every series. Lois was that girl in the last season!
  13. Omg how did that get upside down!!!
  14. Only loving it as i dont work fridays! I live at the bottom of a hill that i have to go over to get to work. Problem is getting down the other side and have read there is a severe warning for the hill so very glad its a duvet day for us!! Tried to build a snowman with my son but the head keeps falling off!!
  15. Whatever i spend on suncream will probably be cheaper than the amount i spend on coats for my my son!! Who thought such a small coat could cost more than a coat for me!!! A few months ago boots changed their suncream branding and were selling off old brand stock at £1 a bottle and buy one get one free. Got 20 bottles for £10. Should keep us going for a while. always keen to pack our own picnic so no probs there. As far as im concerned a walk to the local park or a walk along the beach is a pretty good outing for us. Nearest beach for us is over 2 hrs away, and no i dont count weston super mare as a beach!! So thats not wven an option for a day out here, and having grown up on the coast i really do miss the beach. totally appreciate that everyone has different views. Just expressing my own and advising op to do their own research specific to them.
  16. Re electricity bills, we used to pay around 20 quid a month. Now for the same usage and we are very conscious of not having lights and appliances on that we dont need, we are paying 40 to 45 a month. Flipping ridiculous if you ask me. And the heat our 3 bed detached house with the temp on 16 to 18 max, cost us 85 quid last month!!! Wtf?? to the OP, like others have said, work out what you spend your money on now and then compare to what it would cost in Oz. there are lots of resources out there to do so and its so much more relevant to you than asking for general opinions on here, its all relevant to them but may jot be to you. Eg, price of a pint and smokes is not relevant to me at all, but price of a family day out is. And lets face it there are lots of free days out in oz from what i have researched! good luck!
  17. I think we will probably do this in oz at some point. Both dogs loved walks and beaches so when we finally settle somewhere i think planting a tree is a great idea. My one dog was from SA so would love to have her final resting place as somewhere sunny! Like i said before, as we have moved so much in england i don't feel there is anywhere we would want to leave them here that is special enough to us.
  18. Not sure if its just our lender, halifax, or others too. Most people have put they didnt change product so i think these are ones on a product already. We were on svr and i guess they will do anything to screw you so we had to have a fixed or variable product and the rates were higher for products at the time, 2011.
  19. Just did some googling and looks like we had to move to a higher rate product as we were on standard variable at the time and to have a consent to lease you have to be on a product. Sneaky so and so's.
  20. We used the collars and spray on our stressy little yorkie after we lost our other dog earlier in the year. They certainly did help in calming her down generally so i can imagine they help with travel. If they cant wear the collar in the crate could you have it placed in the crate with them? They can take a few days to get used to it and for the effect to start working, so perhaps introduce one before they fly and then make sure there is one in the crate. the collars last up to 4 weeks and the spray lasts up to 3 hours.
  21. Bump, dustyroad, would still like to know about your recent experience, please do let us know
