  1. Financially, almost certainly. That 4 years makes a big difference here, doesn't it!? You cannot 'merge' your accrued pension from UK Armed Forces, plc into the Aus Mil scheme. Get accurate statements for 18 and 22 years and decide if the way of life is worth the drop in pension income. Remember, under the AFPS75 scheme (or are you AFPS 05?) an immediate pension index links at 55 years of age. Tax has to be paid on it in one or the other country as per a Memorandum of Understanding between the 2 countries! I've applied myself and am due to start claiming my immediate pension in Apr '16 after 18.5 years.

    Enoggera?

Whats it like? If i were working there, where would be the best places to live as i could commute? $600-650/week.
  3. Yes, UK RAF Nurse. I can 'retire' with a before-tax immediate monthly pension of GBP 1K (roughly GBP 750 after tax in Aus?) GBP 70K is gratuity (tax free in UK) + commutation, not '3 times annual', etc. The PR/citizenship thing is the way it works on transfer to the ADF from UK Mil. I believe they pay for all emigration costs as well (visa's, shipping, etc). Seems like a good deal when coupled with a rent allowance of A$500/fortnight!
  4. Hello, I'm a nurse who is looking at emigrating to Australia. The salary I think i would receive is as title. How does this compare? Is it reasonable, and enough to live on in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, etc? I will receive an extra Aus$500/fortnight rent allowance as well. My husband will not be working over there and we will all get PR (along with the 3 kids) through my job. We don't live an extravagant lifestyle here in the UK and I earn £50K/year and after rent, etc save about £500/month. I appreciate your help. rodney
