  1. IMAN advertise on this site, we use them, but don't have the extras. I am pretty sure that I worked out you will only get out what you put in, which makes it a payment plan, not a real insurance. (I am talking about the extras). In my opinion the overall health system here is infinitely superior to the UK system.
  2. The Farm Club in Verbier was about £10 for a bottle of beer in 1989, I think that is the dearest place I ever drank in.
  3. Someone has stolen my wife's credit card details, and used it to order goods online. She is meticulous in protecting her bank accounts, so this was a bit of a surprise. The only possible way her details got stolen must have been in Chermside Shopping Centre, she has one of these "paywave" cards, so the crook must have had some Gizmo that read her card through her handbag. I have heard of these devices. Speaking tonight to our bank, they said you can have a card without the "paywave" facility, which you can order in your branch. Its great to look "cool" and appear so busy that you haven't got the time to sign, or use a PIN, but take it from me it really isn't worth it. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer the distress my wife had today, so consider changing your cards. I think fraud is much less of a problem here than back in the UK. But as times get harder, people get desperate, so please be careful. Anyway, on this occasion, the criminal scum were thwarted, because my wife is so meticulous she spotted the bogus transactions on the same day. She contacted her bank, who gave her the details of the retailers, both in the UK, so she rang them. They were able to cancel the transactions, and even better, are able to supply the Police with the name, and address of the person expecting delivery of the goods.
  4. In all fairness to the removal companies, as long as you use a reputable one, insure your goods, and let them pack the goods, they will almost always arrive here in excellent condition. We sent a crystal chandelier, it arrived fine. We sent 3 plasma TV's 52 inch, and they arrived fine. You can Fed Ex stuff, and it will get here fine, but insure it, and let them pack it. Good Luck.
  5. And then get tested once you are here, as not every vaccine takes, and you may not be immune.
  6. UKIP will not have been helped by the French National Front cosying up to them, because they obviously think they are "kindred spirits." I am not certain that they are. UKIP voters are not idiots, and they realise that there is absolute zero chance, null, nada, chance of UKIP winning the next General Election, so they will either vote UKIP, and waste their vote, or, vote Tory, knowing that there is a huge anti European sentiment in the Tory Party who rightly or wrongly want to "leave Europe." So don't be surprised if the Tories rubbish the UKIP politicians, but go rather softly on the "core message," between now and polling day. They are pulling exactly the same stunt in Scotland. They will be unable to contain their glee if they vote to stop sending Socialists to Westminster. Mark my words, the nearer it gets to the referendum, the more Tory Toffs you will see in Scotland, campaigning against independence, knowing full well their presence will get right up the noses of the Scots, meaning a "yes" vote is a racing certainty. The end result, a Tory Government for the next 20 years, I might even go back!
  7. Contact a reputable carrier. Our dog came in 2012, so this information may be out of date. Your dog will need a rabies test, there is one laboratory in the UK that can analyse it, I think you look on DEFRA website for the address, but your vet should know it anyway...........but check. Your dog can be released from quarantine 180 days after that blood test is drawn. When our dog came, she had to spend the last 30 days in quarantine, but could remain at liberty for the first 150 days. I think they have changed this now to a shorter quarantine period. Once your dog is released, we used an Australian company called "Dogtainers" to fly our dog internally, change of flight, and only cost $120 from Eastern Creek Quarantine, now closed, to here. So it is not expensive. You may consider registering your dog as a "Virgin Frequent Flyer," and making sure they travel UK to Oz on Virgin. Feel free to PM me if you need any more help, I still remember the date and time our dog landed, 14th May, at 16:50pm, exactly 46 years to the minute that Brian Labone collected the FA Cup for Everton from the Queen, and believe me, the 7 year old boy crying tears of joy at that sight never, ever thought then 46 year later he would be collecting something as precious.
  8. There is a chap who is frequently on here who can give you decent advice. I do not know your personal circumstances, such as are you in the UK, or Oz. Your civil service pension does have a transfer value, and I think you may be able to transfer it to Oz, but only to certain limits, and I am pretty sure you can do this on the drip, over the next few years. You could then more or less immediately draw it here tax free. At least you can get it paid here tax free if you have at least PR. Another consideration is what do you think will happen to the £ against the $? Again, take advice say from money corps, they would offer you a fixed rate of exchange, I think for up to two years. My own bet is irrelevant, but I think the pound will ease to about $1:70, but next year will hit $2:00, especially if the market thinks that the Tories will win in the UK in 2015, the converse is also true. Good Luck, and whilst you should take advice, the best advice is "be your own expert," you will probably get it right, and will not feel bitter if it goes wrong, and don't put all your eggs in one basket(case economy).
  9. PM me please, I will ask a couple of people some questions. Tell me what your qualifications are, your experience is, and where you would like to work in Australia.
  10. I don't quite get this. If you are ill, you would want to see a Doctor, who has access to your records, or, if you aren't ill, why see a Doctor? I assume that the Doctor at the walk in clinic was not your usual GP.
  11. Simply charging £20 to see the GP which is lost if you do not turn up on time would end it overnight.
  12. Just checked my 457 visa, which has the condition on that I must hold adequate private medical insurance. They do apparently differ. My worry here is if you "alert" the authorities here will it affect your visa? Without knowing your circumstances, I think probably your best move is to effect PMI ASAP with IMAN. Again, good luck.
  13. It was lawful to kill the suspect because a jury found it so, based on listening to the evidence, rather than the snippets that the media give us, based on their particular view(s). I would imagine that it would be very difficult to successfully defend a murder charge simply by claiming to have "seen a gun." However in this case a gun was found, that a jury, having listened to the evidence, not just the media, decided had been in the gentleman's possession shortly before he was shot. I don't quite understand how you feel "the facts don't really support his claim," referring to the policeman thinking he had seen a gun. Facts generally either support, or refute something; I accept they may give room for opinion, and guesses, but that is not the case here. A gun was found, a jury decided the chap had it so the jury decided what the facts were, based on the evidence in front of them. Sad that someone died, but guns are made, bought, sold, and used so people die, so tragic case, but justice has been served.
  14. The medical evidence in favour of vaccination is in fact so overwhelming that do not have your children vaccinated is almost tantamount to neglect.
  15. I have a horrible feeling that pre existing conditions are not covered straight away with private medical insurance. I would speak to Medicare, see exactly what they will cover, then get the problem with the stomach diagnosed and treated, and get the nasal operation if you need that as well, then effect adequate private insurance so this does not happen to you again. I think it is a requirement of 457 visa to hold adequate medical insurance, so tread carefully, good luck, and let's hope yours does not become a cautionary tale. We use IMAN.
  16. No, no, no my friend, in the overall scale of things his wealth and income is totally, totally irrelevant. If his total wealth was confiscated, we would get about £50 each. Please don't talk like this, it detracts from your arguments.
  17. You are on the wrong side of this argument my friend.
  18. Look what we did to the last man to go to Parliament with honourable intentions.......................Guy Fawlkes.
  19. I had a bit of a laugh on a Ryanair out of Malaga a few years ago. As we went to board, there were three young girls who had bought a bottle of vodka at duty free just ahead of me. They wouldn't let them take it on as hand luggage, because they had no room. Sir Galahad here offered to "lend" them £40 to put it in the hold, but they decided instead to drink it. So I got on. As I was on my own, I got on last, I don't mind sitting anywhere. Anyway, there was actually a front row seat, 1B, so I asked the guy in 1A if he would move his sandwiches that were on the seat. F**k off! he said! I paid extra to get on first, so sit somewhere else. Well I wasn't having that was I? Called the stewardess, asked her to move the sandwiches and let me sit down which she did. He just went psycho, it was so bad, the poor guy in 1C moved.........I can't cope with you two, I'm off he said. So I moved into 1C, I was just about to tell the grumbler to put his butties back, when on came the three young girls, so I suggested to the first one she may like to take seat 1B. She was made up. She thanked me, turned round to the sandwich man asking "is this your son, he is a really nice man!" Sadly, the rush of vodka had caught up with her, and she threw up on his sandwiches. Oh yeh, why is this on this thread, he said I was Obese.
  20. In fact Ryanair allow you to purchase an "adjacent comfort seat," but you don't get a second hand luggage allowance.
  21. Lots of arguments going on about these hard working Rumanians and Bulgarians coming over to help fill the jobs our own feel are beneath them. Should we offer to swap and make them UK citizens, say after 5 years work, paying taxes, not breaking the law, swap them in exchange for people who contribute nothing to the UK, not working, not paying taxes, breaking the law..............why not just declare them Bulgarians after 5 years sponging? Obviously this wouldn't apply to those who are genuine, just the indolent ones.
