  1. We used to be an Empire. We had an Emporer, Queen Victoria. Then she died, and we became a Kingdom, with King Edward VII. Nowadays, we are just another Country, and we have David Cameron!
  2. Please just review what you have said; it is my experience that when working in Public Hospitals in Australia Visiting Medical Officers follow very rigid protocols, and to suggest like you do that they do "pretty much whatever they want" is just wrong.
  3. I believe he is correct, the Australian system is better.
  4. OK I feel sorry for you, but I am wondering why you did not ask ATO to put the money in your own account. Was it overdrawn, was there a credit card linked to it, is your landlord chasing you? I am very hopeful that you can answer "no" to all these points. If you can, then what I would do is contact the Federal MP for the area you lived in, and explain to him or her that ATO altered the destination bank account for your refund following a fraudulent act, and so you would like your rebate. ATO do record all calls, but they would have asked certain identity questions, so again, you may well struggle to get anywhere. I would write to the Australian Police in the area either that you lived, or your friend does, and tell them that you are the victim of fraud, and believe that you are as entitled to the protection of the law just like the rest of us. Even if the police prosecute the guy, and even if he is convicted, he cannot easily be forced to repay the money, but in the event of a conviction you could make him bankrupt if he doesn't pay you. Good luck.
  5. If only they did, they just wasted most of it. And please don't refer to people as "scum bastards."
  6. Or in the case of Anthony Charles Lynton Blair...........Fettes, Scotland's top Public School.
  7. Shocking language, but can I thank you on behalf of the Tory Party because it was exactly this type of language, from the Militant Tendancy Loving Extremists that kept dear old Margaret Thatcher in power for so long.
  8. As I said earlier on this thread the BNP have largely taken Labour votes, in Labour seats..........such as in the North West of England. Nobody seems to have commented on, or challenged the post. We have fortunately never had a far right government in the UK, but, equally, we have never had a Labour Government that has left office with unemployment lower than when they came into office. If you are genuinely concerned about working people losing their jobs you should be joining the Tory Party, and prosecuting their policies..................unless of course you aren't really concerned about the unemployed.
  9. As a Tory, I actually hope that we get another Tory / LibDem Coalition. This government have been by far the best in ages, benign, acting in the National Interest. Whilst there are obvious tensions, Vince Cable seems to think he is the font of all wisdom, the tensions are nothing compared to those between Blair and Brown, Major and his "Bas***ds, Maggie and the wets, Callaghan and the TUC, so I think we should congratulate them, not condemn them.
  10. I wouldn't get too caught up with this, you can always courier over a suitcase for about £150 for 30kg. I know this because a colleague recently came from the UK with XS baggage, and that was the deal. She rocked up at Heathrow with 2 suitcases, both with 30kg in them, and a baggage allowance of 30kg, so that's how I know.
  11. This is is an "open goal." The answer is because Labour Party activists were the only people who were allowed to vote, and they simply inhabit a parallel universe.
  12. UKIP actually seem to be taking votes from the Tories and Labour, unlike the dreaded BNP who only ever did well in Labour seats.
  13. You need to be careful with this. Check your 457 visa requirements, often they require you to hold adequate medical insurance, which is not just Medicare. IMAN seem to be as good as anyone for the 457 cover, but check any policy very carefully, because I am pretty sure they all have an obligation to advise DIAC should you cancel your policy. We held travel insurance for a month, then dovetailed in the lowest level of cover from IMAN. Personally, and this is just me, we didn't take any extras cover as as far as I can remember it wasn't really an insurance, you could only really claim what you had paid in, so it made no sense. Hope this helps.
  14. Travel insurance for a month to arrive, then IMAN.
  15. I won't be sanctimonious. I would do nothing, then, if it does come up write and explain to the people who you need to, pay the original fine, and ask how you can appeal any penalties. The other option is to ring up Western Australia Transport, and talk to them. This will be easier if you are still in the UK I suspect. in the fullness of time, let us know how you got on.
  16. What do you expect from a pig but a grunt.
  17. Wouldn't worry too much about warranties, not really worth the paper they are written on anyway. I don't think the problem is so much that they are invalidated if you take the goods to Australia, but taking the goods back to the shop may be a tad expensive. DOH. We live in Queensland, but I think most of Australia can cope without a tumble drier, and to be truthful, calculate carefully the cost per cubic metre of bringing any white goods here, then look at replacement costs from Harvey Norman, Good Guys etc, and basically it is a no brainier, sell them in the UK and buy new here. You will get a good deal from any electrical retailer if you go in able to buy the washing machine, fridge, TV etc., in one hit. Most rentals have a dishwasher. good luck.
  18. I hate racism. You can change just about everything about yourself, except your sex, (without major hassle), and your ethnic origin. But it isn't racist to say an equitable "no." Every sovereign country should be able to control it's own borders, especially if as here, the immigration policies being followed are those contained in a manifesto of a government democratically elected under a Universal Suffrage. In all fairness to the government here, all they are doing is keeping their promises..................no wonder the Carbon / Mining / Any Other Tax loving lefties hate them.
  19. Please clarify why you feel it appropriate to use inverted commas around the word "Indian." There is no grammatical reason to do so, what do you mean? Do you mean Indians are good, bad, honest, dishonest? Given the underlying theme of your thread is against this action, one has to assume that in some way you think "Indian" means bad. I loathe and detest all forms of racism, and look forward to either a coherent and believable explanation from you, or a grovelling apology.
  20. The bottom line is actually that these bleeding hearts hope they will be future Labour voters.
  21. I am pretty sure IMAN would refund you under the circumstances that you outline. What I did was to take travel insurance for one month, once I had my visa granted, then dovetail plan with IMAN. I did not take the extras, it takes quite a bit of working out, but whereas the main policy is a genuine insurance, that covers a large unexpected medical bill, certainly the dental policy cover is more akin to a payment plan, similar to Denplan in the UK. i would advise that you see a dentist in the UK before you come, and if I was you I would avoid the NHS, and get all your treatment done, include X Rays. I have just had a check up, scale and polish, 2 bite wings, and 2 occlusal composites for $530. This is comparable with private practices in the UK, but many practices here are full, and not taking on new patients. Overall, the health system here is so superior to the NHS you wouldn't believe it. Good luck anyway.
  22. As long as when they have finished there they don't think they can just paddle on down here.
  23. They used to imprison homosexuals, or hang you for robbing a loaf of bread etc., etc., etc., so it is absolutely right to complain about these "rules." And if things aren't fair, then please complain long, and loud, that is the point of living in a democracy isn't it? Equal pay for women, universal suffrage, abolition of slavery, just a few to come to mind where unfair laws were changed. i grant you they are all a bit more serious than this English test, but it is ridiculous.
  24. I am in favour of a government, democratically elected, with a universal franchise, (for gods sake it's compulsory here), carrying out the policies they said they would introduce.
