  1. A mature aged person living in a house share has enough stress on it's own. I did it, I'd never do it again.
  2. I was talking about Ravenswood and the dilemma he/she is in, not someone rocking up with a Holliwood set of teeth asking for insurance cover for the first time.
  3. I don't think health insurance works like that. Their would be a waiting period of at least 12 months plus a limit to the cover for major work of somewhere around $1200. A lot of people nowadays wonder why they pay for extras.
  4. Wherever you decide to go in Perth you will find an abundance of rental properties, so that won't be a problem. I have no idea what a HSEQ is or does but I suspect it involves a desk and a computer so maybe living close to the city in a suburb like South Perth or Como would suit.
  5. I have a letter from the Future Pensions Centre dated April of this year on the subject of the years living in Australia prior to 2001. It does not state that you must have worked in Australia, only that you have lived there. It goes on to say that evidence of the time spent living in Australia can either be tax certificates, employers references, wage slips, travel documents OR letters from two people, who can be friends or relatives. So the way I understand it, from this letter, is that living here qualifies you rather than working here.
  6. You shouldn't have published your driving history in your original post. By doing it you invited criticism of it. You should have only asked about the change in the law.
  7. You obviously drive and write in the same style. The longer you're off the road the safer we'll all be.
  8. And deduct $40,000 (£20,000) in stamp duty on the $1,000,000 home as well.
  9. You'll go a long way in Australia with your sarcasm.
  10. Hi Wooba, I'm not a sparky but I do know that an electrician has to prove that he is one before he arrives in Australia and then he has to re qualify in Australia so that he can work in the industry. A real sparky will hopefully elaborate.
  11. As far as I know, a bank wouldn't lend money to someone to buy a house without either the cash to buy it outright or demonstrate that they could service the repayments of a loan with either income from employment/self employment or other regular income. Once you get a permanent job they will lend you all the money that you want. I think that you would be better off concentrating your energy on the practicalities of the migration process rather than thinking too far ahead.
  12. Nothing personal, but I know a lot of Boilermakers who are out of work, so I really don't know why employers would need to bring them in on a 457.
  13. You won't get much of reaction on here as it's bad news. I believe it's the biggest attack on the working people of Australia since WorkChoices.
  14. Horror stories abound on this subject but basically you would be better off either getting all the dirt off yourself or running the risk of paying lots of money to clean them on arrival or paying lots of money to destroy them. I was told that cleaning is done with an industrial jetwash which would probably destroy the boots anyway.
  15. I think that comparing the prices between the two countries is like comparing chalk and cheese. The wages earned in each country goes hand in hand with the cost of living and when you add the varying exchange rate to the equation it becomes impossible to really compare prices. But l must say that a beer in Perth is expensive.
  16. In my experience it's been the younger ones dropping out before the older guys, especially when they fail a D&A test (ice).
  17. You won't be able to get private insurance but you may be covered by Medicare depending on your Visa. I would ask Medicare where I stand before making any arrangements to travel. Otherwise you can always pay for everything out of your own pocket which may add up to an enormous amount of money if complications occur. Wouldn't it be better to have the children before you come over? I certainly would.
  18. The Australian health system is good if you have the money to pay for it. Having the money, whether it be from your pocket or insurance, will get you treated straight away. If you have to rely on the public system and your problem is not life threatening then you may wait a very long time to be treated. I have been in many situations when a surgeon has said that he can do a procedure next week if I pay for it, otherwise I would have to wait months or years.
  19. Just go on to http://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports.
  20. 400k each way with kids in the back of the car, not exactly the same as a day out to Brighton or Margate.....ha
  21. Why didn't you apply for a PR visa instead of trying to get in via the back door? If you are as good as you think you are, you shouldn't have a problem.
  22. My bundle is not for 24 months and it certainly is not rubbish.
