  1. The lawyer from the company that does the applications told me specifically that they tried for 4 years but the government knocked it back to 1.5 years. I'd just like to know the truth. I asked to see the documents she submitted and she refused.
  2. Strawman fallacy. The purpose of this thread was to ask people if anyone else got a 457 similar to mine not to question whether I have a "right" to employment as you say.
  3. At this point I am expecting something like this to happen. When I call tomorrow I'm worried that they will tell me that for whatever reason they cannot give that information out. I will have to ask anyway.
  4. They assured me numerous times that it would be longer than 2 years and they claim that the government knocked the length of the visa. I think they are lying to me and tomorrow I will call number at the bottom of my visa approval letter and ask them exactly what duration my company nominated me for.
  5. My 457 application done by my company lawyer was approved today... but only for 1.5 years, not for the usual 4. Is this common? I can't get PR with a 1.5 year 457 visa. I paid my company 3000 dollars for their lawyer to do my application and now this.. I think my company did this intentionally so I would have to fork out another 3 grand next year for another 1 year. I have to call the government to ask them exactly what my company did to get me only 1.5 years. In the mean time I'm scheming so that new man gets me a spousal visa.. I do like him!
  6. I'm calling right now to get my fee waved. Looking into land + house package. I'm assuming this comes with an exemption certificate like the firb website mentioned
  7. Got my 457 visa sponsorship a few days ago. My employer nominated a couple of different job titles but I ended up with Graphic Designer. I'm not sure if it is possible to get PR after doing 2 years here on a 457. Does anyone know if I can apply independently for PR after or will I have to be sponsored again for that and how long? My current contact is for 2 years @ 55k/yr
  8. They got the address here because she unwittingly volunteered the information or someone in your family did. Government debt can be pursued in Oz, but this doesn't mean they will get anything overseas. Getting a foreign judgement is very difficult and very expensive. The only reason the UK father is pursued to begin with is because he co-signed his child's loan which is big no-no. Never cosign someone else's loans under any circumstance.
  9. extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence...bragging about running from a debt is not an extraordinary claim and does not need much evidence for one to believe. If anyone were to at least provide me with a link I could follow it up at least. Like I said before, you can come back to the UK but it is only if you work and collect a wage I imagine it will be a problem, that and getting any loan (since your credit rating would be terrible after defaulting on loans). I imagine that if his sister worked in the UK they might garnish her wage until the debt was completely settled. This problem is more widespread than many of you might imagine. 4/10 default on their student loans in England reference: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2312702/Four-students-default-loans-Treasury-fear-funding-unsustainable.html
  10. If she has PR your sister can celebrate as she basically will never have to pay it off unless she decides to move back to the UK and work there. It's possible to chase her down here in OZ and make her pay but I haven't heard of this ever being accomplished (can ANYONE provide me a link to an article where this happened?? Probably not.) I know a Canadian man that got PR in OZ, he bragged about not having to pay a six figure student loan back home. Since it is a civil issue, the police are not concerned with it.. Only NZers can be arrested for doing such things.
  11. Discrimination based solely on visa status is illegal in Australia, look it up.
  12. I am on a working holiday visa (417) and I have been to countless interviews here in Victoria. I do well at corporate interviews and they love me until I mention my visa situation. I tell them that I can work for 6 months and then if they like me they can sponsor me after that. I have noticed that soon after I'm either terminated with flimsy reasoning or not considered for the job after. Usually I get a vague letter that says I was not a fit for the position.. I can't help but feel that employers are discrimination against me because of my visa situation. I know this is illegal, yet I still here many managers say it to my face. They tell me I'm not worth training if I am to leave them after 6 months or it is too difficult to sponsor after 6 months. I have the money to litigate people but I'm not sure how to go about it since people are not stupid enough to put it in writing or speak on record. Anyone else in this situation?
  13. Thanks Pumpkin! Assuming I receive a 1 year contract from a employer, am I eligible to apply for a working visa for the duration of the contract? Is this of something people do?
  14. I am English, female, 26 years old, eager with a visitor visa. I want to apply for a permanent, full-time contract job as a GP Sales Representative, it is on the CSOL List (#225412). Assuming I receive a firm contract for at least a year – what are my next steps to transition to a work visa? Do I apply for employer sponsorship, working visa, state sponsorship or so on? Would love to hear your feedback! X:cute:
