  1. Wouldn't you be leaving yourself wide open to identity fraud? Your parents address would be a lot safer. We've been using our daughters address with no problems.
  2. We sold a house in NSW without any legal problems after my wife had moved back to live in the UK. We sold a house in WA without any problems after we both had moved back to live in the UK. Ownership of a house is like a will, related to the person, not where the person lives providing that the purchase was done legally.
  3. No one person has the answer. You will have to be brave, like the rest of us, and send your money over when you think it's the right time. The required knowledge is hindsight, but as you know, it will only be acquired after the event. It can be tough this migrating lark.
  4. Spend it. You're worrying too much.
  5. Don't head for Perth if you can avoid it. Over the next 4 months thousands of skilled and not so skilled workers will be joining the ever growing list of the jobless as both the Wheatstone and Gorgon Projects are winding down. My experience of the Daily Mail is that it rarely tells nothing but the truth.
  6. Calm down everyone. Take a deep breath. Now, exhale. Now, focus on what you want to do and your own time frame. Changing money big time is something you never think about until you have, relatively, all your money in the world to exchange for a foreign currency that you thought would be around the 2 for 1 ball park figure. At the moment it isn't but you can't do anything about it except maybe wait. Five and a half years ago we came out to Australia and exchanged all of our money from the UK for $1.48. In 3 months time from now we will be returning to the UK. On paper I suppose we have lost money even with the fall in the value in the £ at the moment. But, do you know what? We don't care. We will get on with our lives, and hopefully, so will all of you.
  7. Why do you think that Australia is the place to go? Are both of your jobs going to hit the buffers at the same time? If you have a very comfortable life why would you, or anyone, risk it? Not all is well in Australia at the moment, I can assure you. Why would Brexit affect your life so suddenly to the point of wanting to leave the UK? Are your reactions a touch too knee jerky?
  8. I thought they'd stopped printing the brochures from the 60's saying how easy life is in Australia and how anyone can get ahead if they want to. Wanted down under? Only your money nowerdays. At 50, if I had a good set up I'd make the most of it.
  9. The week before Easter my wife flew from London to Perth via Dubai. The second leg to Perth was practically empty. All the passengers in zoo class had the option of lying on a row of 4 seats.
  10. Don't think that the wages enjoyed by so many for so long because of the boom will be the norm for much longer, because it will be the bosses payback time soon. The employment market now has a great more applicants than jobs so the only direction that wages and conditions will go is in a downwards direction. Farmers are rejoicing that they only have to pay $25 per hour for the same people that were being paid $38 in the boom time.
  11. Regardless of your visa situation, I take my hat off to you as you strike me as the kind of bloke that built this country. I wish you all the best.
  12. But you will be able to claim all the money in your account.
  13. The choo choo from Newcastle to Sydney is a very scenic journey, unfortunately it is at the pace of a snail. You should be able to write a novel on the way.
  14. Who knows? Things are tickertyboo here, if you ask any government politician, but anyone out of work would tell you otherwise. I'm doing alright, but a couple of my brothers are not. They've been out of work for along time.
  15. So I presume the 28 male only bays will be the furthest bays away from the shops then. So maybe there should be another 28 bays midway to accommodate those that are struggling with their sexual identity?
  16. Premium Bonds are not a good investment in my opinion but you do get another go each month at winning one of the (fewer) big prizes.
  17. You may not be so lucky in Perth. It is very very quiet at the moment.
  18. There will be no problems with your boxes as you'll have months to sort things out. On the other hand, why are you moving from Cambridge to Perth? I would love to do the same journey in reverse.
  19. Really? And I thought it was another way to help the rich get richer, not helping the poor people! Silly me.
