  1. @Harriet Roberts - I thought you might also want to share this in the Chewing the Fat section - ask Admin perhaps to help - as that part of the forum is used quite a lot.
  2. Try http://www.p4d.co.uk/ but click on UK imports to get your quote. I have also used Transglobal from the UK to Aus, you would have to ask them the cost for reverse journey.

  4. Just curious, I'm pure as the driven snow me (:cute:) but has anyone left debt in Australia and returned to the UK? Don't have debt, but am interested to hear if the rules are the same etc. Cheers!
  5. Good luck! Maintain a happy outlook, enjoy it, don't complain too much if things get tough, and you'll be fine.
  6. That is exactly how I feel now. Maybe I'm growing up?
  7. Hi Herbster, we are going back in July, came 3 years ago with a full 20ft container. We are now returning with just shy of 2/3 container. We sold all Ikea stuff and pieces that wouldn't fit in our UK house, chucked as much clutter as possible and kept the nicest furniture, most basic every day items plus personal items. I debated selling all white goods and repurchasing, but mine are only 2 years old and fetch poor prices as used, so we are shipping back. I will rent white goods in the UK until the container arrives. If you contact a mover, they will tell you the rules on shipping back, it is much easier to UK, nothing really prohibited other than the usual arms, weapons, drugs, etc
  8. Too late, we go home in July. Tbh, I was never interested in PR, but everyone else seemed to be....
  9. Thanks @marta! It isn't going to be easy, there are days I feel incredibly scared (like today) I am almost breathless, but deep down I know this is the right thing to do. Just hoping for a stroke of luck now to help us settle back into jobs asap.
  10. Hello lovely, we missed you! X stay happy no matter what your choices
  11. Nice post! I am hot on your heels....
  12. What QSS said, but also, have you ever visited? Could you afford to? Maybe you and OH minus the kiddos to at least see what it is like. It can work out, in which case happy days, but if it doesn't you may inevitably feel some resent towards your OH as it was "his idea". Honesty, if comittment is not there, at the start is fundamental IMO.
  13. Bargain with them. They obviously want you.... You have done them the favour of funding your own visa too. Say you want Perth where you as the OH had a potential job offer or family, and would like some support from them since this is Adelaide and it may go **** up. Not a full relo package, but something written into a contract to help you out. Car? Flight home first Christmas? Extra month rent? If you don't ask, you don't get.
  14. Hey, that sounds like good news! Yes, the US is closer/more accessible to Europe which would be a big tick for me!! I have no idea about US visas, but would think the partner option would be there much the same as most first world countries. They also sound very on board with what they are offering you, so good luck!

    Counting down!

Flight booked, 6th July  :jiggy:
  16. Me interested too! Following...
  17. Yes, that's the thing. We tried to keep feet on ground, caring for the sick olds and living in a house helped in that regard.
  18. I did just this in April, and am going back in July. We used the trip to visit sick parents, and rented a flat instead of staying in hotels. I just needed to get a feel for the UK again, to make sure I wasn't just remembering all the quaint stuff. If it was up to me, I would have just stayed, but needed to come back and collect my pets, hand in notice etc. For me the reverse recci was worth it but as with anything, if you can't really afford it there is no point planning. If money is tight, could just one of you go back? No idea about credit cards, don't have any.
  19. Get the yellow pages and try all the metal fabrication companies, some are national, others are regional. Also try manufacturing plants that make metal products. I know of one in WA who has employed other Filippinos on 457s, I will send you a PM.
  20. I can't remember how we got around this. We went back to UK after over a decade away and of course had no UK bills or anything. I think we registered our bank account at a friends' house and used that as a bill, plus showed a UK work contract and a translated letter from our landlord in Europe with copy of the rental contract. We didn't get asked for the guarantor though and just paid 2 months deposit.
  21. I will come deffo if money allows. Only moving back mid July and things will be hectic for a while. I will post back nearer the time.
