  1. Hey Tammy No worries at all I know how it feels! When doing job searches search 'Disability Nurse' Sydney seems to be the area with the most work. I was employed through a nursing agency they sponsored me on a 457 visa. The say my work will be mostly in group homes in the community so im assuming its mostly community based. I have a 38 hour weekly contract with the agency and have to work between 2 homes. The agreed to sponsor me once I received registration with AHPRA, and then they had to wait 4 months for a labour hire agreement to be able to sponsor me. My visa then just took 3 weeks Becca
  2. Hey Tammy, Yes I got registered with AHPRA but with restrictions I only work in the field of 'disability' nursing! It took me ages to find work in this area but did eventually in Sydney.. I leave next week! Good luck with your application if you need anymore advice let me know. Becca
  3. Cheers Hopefully it will be fine, you see I got pulled over by the police and given it, but i never heard anything else again (Id given them my UK address) and they never chased me up. I dont mind paying it at all how ever much it may be now! I just dont want refused entry so as long as it doesnt affect my visa. Becca
  4. Hey so what was the conclusion to this, did you get your visa ok? Im in the same boat I had a small fine in 2002 for $70 but the guys i was travelling with at the time said dont pay they never chase up and i just forgot about it.... im now in the process of getting a 457 visa and terrified there is a warrent out for my arrest and Ill get refused it!! lets hope im worrying ver nothing! Becca
  5. Cheers alan, I am continuing to look but as Im a learning disability trained nurse its been very hard to find a sponsor, its taken me 7 months already to get registered! ill keep looking though, fingers crossed
  6. Hey! Cheers for your reply... the agency say they dont have this number yet, but as soon as they do they will send me it?! Im confused Becca
  7. Hi all, hope someone can help, an agency in Sydney told me they would like to sponsor me back at the beginning of September. They told me they were waiting to be approved, this would take around 3 weeks and they would send me my nomination number then so I can apply for 457 visa. Its now been over two months and every time I email them to ask if they have the number yet they just say 'no news yet we will contact you as soon as we hear'. Does anyone know how long it takes them to get a nomination number and should I be worried? I have a deadline to arrive in Australia by September next year or my nursing registration runs out. I feel Im pestering them by emailing to ask all the time, does anyone have any advice? Thanks everyone becca
  8. hey, its a 457 sponsorship visa im looking for so havent been assessed by ANMAC, I just have to find an employer to sponsor me after I get my nursing reg. Hopefully we will find out more soon becca
  9. Hey, i have been trying to find info on this for a while! Im a trained Learning disability nurse in Scotland, I applied to get registration from AHPRA in April but still waiting a decision. Some agencies are telling me Australia doesn't recognize L.D nurses, others say I can work in mental health. The only place that has told me that their state recognizes L.D nurses is Queensland. No agency will help me find a job how ever until I receive registration! So im still not sure if there are many posts out there, I wish I could help u more, but Ill keep you updated as soon as I find out! Good luck Becca
  10. p.s congratulations getting registered
  11. Thanks rachel thats helped me stay positive !
  12. Hey does any one know if AHPRA are registering University diploma nurses at the moment? I applied to them in April but they still say they are processing my registration, due to a back log. I just wish I knew if I was eligible or not... I'm learning disability trained too which makes it trickier! Cheers everyone! Becca
  13. Yeh I have checked and registered with them but nothing at the moment, they say some posts will be coming up soon though!fingers crossed
  14. I have applied to Queensland and hoping to work there, I have heard they recognize Learning disability nursing there more than any other state. Really Ill just work anywhere the jobs are! but have been told by all agencies that I need my registration letter first before I can apply for jobs! its doing my head in! where about in Queensland are you heading?
  15. Hey I applied to AHPRA in April but still haven't received registration, I called them a few times over the past few weeks and they say they have a huge back log just now and they will be assessing my application as soon as they can. You should try calling them and speak to your case worker it might hurry them along, well I'm hoping it will for me anyway! They say mine is a difficult case though as Im learning disability trained and may have to go to the board?! It may be easier for you as a midwife. good luck Becca
